Oof, another playoff benching for Kakko. I hope he handles this one a little better.
The kid needs a different off-season program. He needs to be able to do more in the offensive zone than just cycle the puck. He really needs to learn how to drive to the net with the puck.

need to put on their big boy pants tonight. Hidden in the Kreider hat trick show for the ages is 8 periods of very bad hockey in the last three games.

Since 2022, I've critiqued CK (and Zib) loud and often for their disappearing acts in SCP. It's a good thing I wasn't around last week because I may not have been able to hold my tongue through periods 1 and 2 Thursday night (still haven't seen it) and would likely have eaten major crow. But Thursday is not the end of it, it only marked a new beginning. I will almost guarantee that the team's bi-polar ability is alive and well. Every team has its periods of poor play and wtf moments, it just seems like the Rangers' are uglier than most. Valiquette doesn't spare them (or the 'less than 100%' of particular players), he speaks in code. You're in good company.
Roslovic (Kyle spot on earlier: his mind-numbingly unnecessary high stick behind Bob's net essentially ended the team's great start to 2nd and he is a fly by checker, i.e., he doesn't) and Wennberg have been underwhelming at best, not the Copp and Vatrano of '22. All the folks clamoring for Chytil to play more--I don't know what they expect from a guy who hasn't played since November due to a debilitating injury/condition.
And a bunch of us said it then: Lavvy's benching of Jones with 5-6 games left in regular season was a mistake: yeah, he's not big and not esp. physical and he's a mismatch for FLA's powerful Fs, but right now Fox is hobbled and it's also affecting his decision making.
I don't get benching him. Seems like Roslovic is the obvious candidate if you have to get Rempe in the lineup.
As far as 73 goes, there seem to be a decent amount of smart hockey guys that feel he should be dressed. Maybe there is some sort of 4D Chess that I don't see - maybe he attracts enough attention from Tkachuk, Cousins, Bennet, etc that Fla gets off their game? Just spitballing here...
Listened to some NHL network on Sirius while driving today. Consistent point was that Rempe or no Rempe, KK or no KK, if the top 6 don't put the puck in the net, none of that matters. Obvious point, but likely correct.
We'll see how this goes. I'm generally a pessimist, but feel strangely confident tonight.
calling the lineup shots (not sure) two separate head coaches have sat Kakko in the playoffs.
I don't think coaches are omniscient and can't get it wrong sometimes but when there's a pattern you have to wonder what as fans we don't see.
I am surprised Kakko is a healthy scratch and I mentioned his lack of offensive success, maybe the coaches think in an environment when they can control match ups to an extent and "shelter" Rempe that his positive influence on the lineup outweighs Kakko's.
It does seem a little panicked to me. I did not agree with others about game 1. I thought the Rangers played ok in game 1. a flukey goal plus a seemingly soft goal vs Bobrovsky stopping all the HD scoring chances was the difference in the outcome. The Rangers didn't dominate zone play, but I don't think they did against CAR either. FLA had less HD scoring chances I believe.
When you get a scoring opportunity bury it.
You can’t go 10+ minutes in a period without a shot.
PP must score a goal tonight
Time for the top 6 forwards to make a difference

he said that before game 1 too when he was hounded by the media asking him questions about Rempe. I think fans (and even the media) make more of a deal about him than some teams do.

Got it! Sorry.
The chemistry of the 3rd line hasn’t been great with Cullye off of it.
I think a big part of Rempe being out there is that he’ll park his ass right in front of Bobrovsky. There wasn’t enough of that in game one. Hopefully he won’t make any glaring defensive zone errors.
As others have said, the defensive zone turnovers have to stop. It would be one thing if it were the result of forechecking, but quite a few of the turnovers were flubs and dumb decisions.
Roslovic stinks. I was hoping they would get a proven goal scorer like Guentzel or even Tarasenko, but they went to the bargain bin to get Roslovic and Wennberg (Nothingburger).
I think the biggest problem with Kakko is that he was a second overall pick so people expect more than a defensively responsible forward. I can't say I blame them, but at this point, he is what he is. You don't evaluate his play based on his draft status years ago. Since Lavvy was not in charge when they drafted him, I tend to think what he sees in Kakko is not all that great.
should have been a five minute major penalty. The main point of contact was the head, not the body. He also lined him up. It wasn't a "bang bang" play. And the Rangers player didn't have the puck.
That’s one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. Goodrow barely touched Barkov, but because Barkov fell they called interference. And it ended up costing us.

Horrendous call
He wasnt touched and then spun around and fell. They have to be better than this in the playoffs.
I just have no confidence we can match the intensity
For 60 minutes and if we can’t, we are going to lose this series quickly. The last six or seven minutes we were gassed and it just couldn’t keep up.
I don't think they're gassed. They just won't continue to hit. They wilted the second Zibby got leveled. They lost a 2 on 1 behind the net when they started with possession for crying out loud. They're unwilling. Not tired.
Panthers are dirty and like to get under team’s skin. Feel like after that dirty hit on Weine burger Rangers were more focused on laying a big hit than puck possession.
This has low key been a terrible game for Zibanejad
Causes Fox to take a penalty. Is Panarin playing timid? He wants no part of contact in my view. He had no reason to make that bone headed play other than a Panther was coming
Chris Kreider -- Mika Zibanejad -- Filip Chytil
Artemi Panarin -- Vincent Trocheck -- Alexis Lafreniere
Will Cuylle -- Alex Wennberg -- Jack Roslovic
Jimmy Vesey -- Barclay Goodrow -- Matt Rempe
Ryan Lindgren -- Adam Fox
K'Andre Miller -- Jacob Trouba
Erik Gustafsson -- Braden Schneider
Igor Shesterkin

And has been on the ice for only two opposition goals through the playoffs. Sure, he's the problem.
Yeah, I get it, he's not scoring. But he isn't hurting them either, not by a long shot.
A third line winger is controlling puck possession, playing great defensive hockey, but not scoring... I mean, that's why he's on the third line.
No, that's why he should be on the 4th line or AHL
I think benching him is really stupid. Part of the reason getting chytil back is big is because him and kappo have chemistry. He MAKES kappo better.
Hopefully the refs don't call a phantom penalty on Rempe that costs us...
Chris Kreider -- Mika Zibanejad -- Filip Chytil
Artemi Panarin -- Vincent Trocheck -- Alexis Lafreniere
Will Cuylle -- Alex Wennberg -- Jack Roslovic
Jimmy Vesey -- Barclay Goodrow -- Matt Rempe
Ryan Lindgren -- Adam Fox

I love the Rangers but never played the game and don’t know a lot of the subtleties. Is there any way that changing 3 of 4 lines isn’t panicking?

I don't think it's a big deal. Guys practice together, got ice time together during the year, etc.
