NFT: MRI contrast concerns

OnTap : 5/24/2024 11:00 am
So I have to do an abdominal adrenal MRI and they use Dotarem which is a contrast agent. My doctor say nothing to worry about but reading the disclosures, it says gadolinium based products can remain in the body for years. I had an MRI about 18 months ago with the same contrast.

Any radiologists here care to weigh in? I know the risk is probably low but I get freaked out by anything medical related.
I’ve had so many MRIs with contraxt

I’d be dead by now if the stuff was dangerous.

I have multiple sclerosis patients that require serial annual imaging that requires MRI brain with contrast. There has been no problems including kidney function.
Is that the creamy shake you need to drink?

Like you have to drink 4-5 creamy shakes for the contrast?
Gadolinium is excreted in the urine

90% in the first 24 hours, almost all of the rest in the next few days. Only trace amounts remain (we have trace amounts of a lot of things in our bodies), and gadolinium is not associated with known toxicities. Unless you have pre-existing renal failure, it won't be a problem.

With not using contrast is that you get less detail on the MRI so much so that I'll never understand why they didn't use it with my daughter's shoulder. What was seen in the MRI was drastically different than what the surgeon saw.

That’s a CT scan. MRI contrast is injected.
I had one done yesterday
