I don't know how to characterize it, Victor, may be the way you say, but Lavvy splitting up Schneider and KAM to re-join JT with KAM was a head scratcher for sure, esp. when it seemed to me and I think many others that the two young guys really played off each other well. JT has had a rough 2nd half of season/Playoffs. To my eye Gus has been pretty steady, as I said above.

To your point about assertive generally, in going over the game last night trying to fall asleep (was pretty wired after watching my recording cuz like Brett I watched 3rd and OT from a bar), I tried to recall the last time in these Playoffs vs CAR and now FLA that a d-man collected a loose puck in the slot or in the circles and just aggressively skated the puck out of the def zone by himself--a zone exit!!!, Makar or Heiskanen like--and I was hard pressed to come up with any, Schneider might be the closest. His game yesterday was uneven, competed hard, but a lot of mistakes.

Still out there somewhere, passionately defending Nikolai Zherdev and putting quotation marks around ‘Torts’.

I once said that Zherdev was as talented as Ovechkin. Good times…I think it was after he scored that incredible goal against the Penguins, I think.

What happened to Wuphat?
I remember this occurring lol
Always been a big supporter of Kakko

He plays a 200 foot game. Wish Kreider and Panarin would do the same. Not happening!!!
I am impressed with Cyhtil’s performance as he has only played a couple of games since being out since November. You notice him on the ice imv.
I don’t know what to make of the Rangers D corps.
They are losing almost every 50/50 battle for the puck.
They want to chip the puck out instead of carry the puck out on almost every occasion.
Way too many stick checks by D corps also.
Fox is moving at about 50% capacity.
I’m not sure what the hell is going on with Miller.

They need to figure out the PP.
I think Fox’s injury is a big issue on PP

I like moneypuck (who I used in that last post), natural stat trick (he only had the Panthers with 2.67 xGF so he agrees with you on the first goal), and hockey stat miner (who is a NYR fan (maybe posts on here, lol) also posted that stat about the NYR and winning a series 2 to 1).

I love MoneyPuck and HockeyStatMiner. I haven't used Natural Hat Trick much.

I thought MoneyPuck saying the Rangers deserved to win in G1 was interesting. I disagreed lol.

to be clear, Brett, you're saying that, <in addition to> the Forsling goal--and I agree with pj there--you thought he should have had first goal of the game?

I'll go back to a discussion we had (mostly pj) about Varlamov vs the Canes: I commented that late 3rd in an Islander loss, he looked totally exhausted, sruggled to regain his feet after a butterfly, etc., and that the sheer number of shots 'faced' he was physically a shell of himself. pj countered with the stat that SOG was more like the high 30s and not so beyond the pale, and I countered that the keeper has to "play" every shot taken whether it's a SOG or not because it is not foretold that it does not reach the net/deflected/ or high/wide whatever.

I think yesterday was similar: whatever the SOG or xGA, Igor has to play, to react to, each and every one of the 90 some odd shots taken even if it does not become a SOG. If you saw him skate off after the 3rd, he was drenched and wasted. Reducing his effort to excellence or mediocrity via a statistical result tells only part of the story. That said, I didn't think it was his best game either, but as so often the case behind these Rangers d-men, he didn't have enough help.

I thought he should have had the first one. I'm actually more forgiving on the Forsling goal. It was a nice shot.
