Come on man! Don’t you like 3,200 yards and 15 TD’s from your starting QB? It was good in the early 80’s!

Why do we ignore 700 rushing and 7 tds. Seriously. Why?

22 TD’s is still pretty bad. Especially when only 2/3 were passing. I’m not going to create posts to talk about Jones at this point or pollute every thread with Jones talk, but there’s a reason that they tried to trade up this year for Maye. That was very telling. My fear is a mediocre year from Jones that sneaks them into the playoffs and they stick with him. I want him to either play great, or just fail and we can move on. The in between is frightening.

So if 22 TD’s is still “pretty bad”, why not give the whole picture? Instead of leaving out info to try to support a narrative?

He had three more TD’s in 2022 than Davis Mills (Houston) and Marcus Mariota (Falcons). Bottom half of the league. That’s not something to be excited about.

So i say again - why leave out the whole picture? Why purposely short change him?

Unless you have a narrative….

I’m not short changing him. His 22 overall TD’s are only three more than Davis Mills and Marcus Mariota’s 19 total TD’s in 2022. Both regarded as bad QB’s on teams with worse rosters than the Giants that season. What is missing from the picture?

Are you for real?! In your first post you quoted only his passing stats.

That’s being purposely deceptive.

If you truly don’t understand that, i can’t help you….
Does it matter?

22 TD’s is horrible for a starting QB in today’s NFL. The 15/7 split are Tim Tebow caliber numbers. Come on with this short changing crap. Other two way QB’s who are regarded as decent are dropping over 30 combined.

Are you honestly defending those numbers as good?
Amazing hill to die on.
robbieballs2003 : 5/28/2024 8:52 pm : link
Holy shit.
Who cares about the numbers (at least somewhat)
djm : 5/28/2024 9:11 pm : link
Just win games in 2024. If they can score pts, play defense and win games nothing else really matters. We all want stats, but I’d be fine winning games and landing the qb whenever that time comes. They won’t ignore the position even if you think otherwise.

It is what it is at this point. Some of the keys to this season is the defense, OL and DJ’s ability to gain chunk yardage on the ground. Maybe it’s long shot but they did it 2 years ago. It’s what we have to hope for.

As for Darnold starting Week 1, I expect as much. The nightmare Week 1 scenario for the Giants is JJ starts, lights it up, & Jones looks like the Daniel of '23.

Bud, you don’t speak for everyone, but you sure do often act like it. First post on many threads. You enthusiasm is evident. But I wasn’t aware this guy had a major knee injury. Next time try staring off the first response to most threads in a way that doesn’t appear to steer conversation in your one track minded way.

Also stop bringing Daniel Jones into every fucking conversation. It’s insufferable to even people who dislike our QB situation.

To OP, seems like there was an update/comment today about him. Doesn’t sound probably at all for week one.

Well said! We all know he is a true Jones hater and must continue to profess that hate. Jones may indeed not be the answer at qb for the Giants, but why don't we just wait and see how he does in a real game.

He's played 60 real games.

But we now have this, at least:

It’s easy to defend DJ’s season - he had an elite LT, a big name RB (who had a very good, but not amazing year) and replacement-level play at every other position. With that he led us to an above-average scoring offense with extremely low turnovers and got us a playoff win. He also had an above average QB rating and was #6 in QBR.

You can pick some stats of his to call horrible if you like but you should also be able to admit that he had a good season, especially considering the talent level surrounding him.
Giants were quite improved in covering TEs last year
Blue Dog : 5/29/2024 4:55 am : link
even if Hockenson is a beast (10th in yards given up, 8th in TDs). The more worrying concern is whoever wins the second CB spot (Flott the early name) covering Jordan Addison. That is a tough assignment for week 1.

What narrative is fucked with by reminding people of Jones's rushing stats? Certainly not the narrative that he's not been a good QB, or the narrative that he probably won't become a good QB.

I think what this board needs more of is emojis and the constant, repetitive use of the word narrative.
I wish we can just pin a OMG DJ is our QB thread
SteelGiant : 5/29/2024 8:49 am : link
it would be great just to consolidate.

While I'm not expecting the QB concerns to never be brought up, they have valid points, and I do not think most us disagree that there is concern. But how long will it take for us to agree to disagree on some things and move on.

There are so many other positions and things that could be discussed without every thread being hijacked.

If I started a post about what I had for breakfast, I would give it an hour before someone posts something along the lines that is doesn't matter if I eat breakfast because DJ is our QB and we are doomed.

I also would like to make note, that I do not see a lot of threads being like "DJ is awesome, he is going to be the difference maker" on every thread.

and to that "I must talk about DJ" crowd, you know who you are: You can say you are not Anti DJ, or you are rooting for DJ, I dont really care. That is not the point. The point is we are pointing out that you are coming off a little obsessed on the QB situation. The QBs are set, its not changing, you are going to have to let it play out. The Giants are not reading this, and they are not going to change their mind. Everyone on the board knows your position regarding the QB, but we have no idea what you think about the other players on the roster, the coaches, the playcalling, the new oline changes, the new defensive system, who IS going to take a step forward on this season. I have no idea what you think, all I know is your only concern is DJ is our QB.

Some on you say, I hope DJ proves me wrong. Ok great, when you respond to every thread, If you keep that in mind and type your response to the topic in hand I think you will come across less annoying.

For example, topic is on Vikings offensive players, this would be great time to discuss the changes in our defensive scheme, our young CBs, our rookie Safety, our new edge rusher. What do you think about that? I have no idea. All I know if you worry about the QB position which I already know because I can read it on every thread.

You have to put it in context and compare Jones total production to the league. Giving Jones credit for the one game he missed where Taylor and Webb combined had more TD's and yards than Jones. The Giants combine yards ranked 18th and 15th in points (exclude the game Jones missed, the Giants drop to 18th in points). Their passing yards was ranked 26th and passing TD 24th (this is closer to 28th if you exclude the Game Jones missed). Those numbers are closer to the Dave Brown years than the Eli Manning years. Jones best year is mediocre by league standards. The Giants can and must do better with their QB.

Seems like you're just going to have to deal with it until you improve your own problem-solving skills.
I came to this

Thread thinking it gained traction because it was suggested to try and trade Waller or something to the Vikings. This was an interesting plot twist.

The OP also mentioned-paragraph two-that Darnold is expected to start Week 1. But let's forget about that.

You're the reason there needs to be an ignore buttons here. DJDS Get help. Every fucking thread. You e been a whiny bitch here for 20 years.

Amen. With the amount of spam on this board, it’s time for an ignore feature. Been mentioning that whenever a post for new ideas for the forum comes up. This guy and a few other spambots spend their life sitting here waiting for anyone to post anything, just to say Jones sucks.

Eric’s board is getting spammed and trolled but he doesn’t care because they click so much. It’s the world we live in.

There already are multiple ignore features available:

1) You could use your willpower like an adult. That seems like it might be above your ability level.

2) There's a mute button extension. Too bad finding that seems to be outside of your capacity as well.

Seems like you're just going to have to deal with it until you improve your own problem-solving skills.

It’s not a willpower issue it’s I’d prefer not to have to sidestep so many posts like land mines. It would be a better user experience to just be able to ignore. It’s a feature I’ve seen used in other message boards.

The mute button extension may or may not be a good option, I tend to be careful with extensions and adding software to my devices.

In general, get bent.

What narrative is fucked with by reminding people of Jones's rushing stats? Certainly not the narrative that he's not been a good QB, or the narrative that he probably won't become a good QB.

No one on this thread said he’s been a good QB. However, ignoring stats to make a narrative look better is incredibly disingenuous, not to mention pathetic. It’s hard to take any poster who does that seriously.

It's pathetic?

"Jones only threw for 3200 yards and 15 TDs in 2022, that's not very good."

"You didn't shoehorn in the 700 rushing yards and 7 rushing TDs! That's pathetic!!"

Agreed Compton. In terms of the argument over needing to include his rushing stats, etc, “good” dual threat QB’s typically put up larger production overall than a traditional pocket QB because they are multifaceted. Even with 700 yards and 7 rushing TD’s in 2022, Jones was still in the bottom half of the QB charts from an overall TD perspective with 22.

I think there are legit reasons to start a thread about TJ Hockensen. But if you don't agree, why the heck did you even bother to read this post? Do you read every single post on this site?

saying this is supposed to be a TJ Hockensen thread.

A TJ Hockensen thread?!? What the heck does that even mean. He doesn't play for the Giants. He's hurt for Week 1...in 3.5 months...maybe. End of that discussion. The straight-away bitching from timmons is WILD.
RE: I wish we can just pin a OMG DJ is our QB thread
flyswimwalk : 5/29/2024 6:20 pm : link
Completely agree. I clicked on this post expecting to read about the Vikings' TE situation, but I was shocked by what I saw, even though I'm aware of the behavior of some people on this site. I've complained about this multiple times before.

It seems like some individuals are displaying behaviors that suggest mental health issues. They are overly obsessed with a particular topic and connect it to everything they interact with. This is not only very annoying to others but also quite concerning, to be honest.

it would be great just to consolidate.

It's not a thread about Jones... The only ones that should be using willpower are the ones deciding to make it one.

people on the internet are not talking about the thing i want them to talk about or doing it in the place it would be convenient for me that they talk about it.

There is a mute button extension. Unsurprisingly, you're not smart enough to find it or use it.

There's also a preview button on the post/reply screen, which would allow you to proofread your posts - something you clearly haven't done for at least 20 years. Maybe just work on practicing breathing through your nose.

This has nothing to do with people on the internet, its probably a problem I have with people in general. I know its really hard for people today to apply logic. Why bother having threads? Why not just have a chat room where everyone just talks all day on anything they feel like talking about?

Maybe its because the idea of threads on a message board is allow a community to organize their thoughts on a specific topic and then they could start another thread on a different topic. That would be a logical solution. Oh wait, that would be mean people would have to apply logic.

Left lane drivers (its designed for passing)

Grocery store express lines (its designed for people who only have a very few items so they dont have to wait for people with huge orders)

but yes, we are bitching because people refuse to apply logic in their lives and refuse to understand the design of solutions.

We have to sit hear quietly, watch/listen to the illogical with their sense of their entitlement and let them enjoy as many look at me moments as they can.

Spot-on!

Far too many have either a penchant for look at me, or they simply have no self-awareness (or both).

Moralizing on a football message board
TheOtherManning : 5/30/2024 2:29 pm : link
certainly indicates a lack of self awareness, hah.

Speaking of unwelcome moralizing - Timmons did more to derail this thread with his hissy fit up top than anyone else. Who the heck is he to tell another poster what to do and say like that? What did he expect to be the response to such a nasty message?
