We’re trying something a bit different with the threads starting with this series. Instead of a thread per game, we’re going to try a thread per series due to their being less activity on the daily threads—which is totally understandable since the team is in a tailspin and doesn’t look to be going out of it anytime soon. Let’s see how it goes.
It was suggested we try it this way and we agreed upon it yesterday after we voted on it. If it’s not popular, we can always go back to doing it the old way. Please share your opinion about this change after this series is over on this thread. It won’t be much different. Lineups and starting pitcher matchup graphics will still be posted for each game as before, just consolidated into a single thread. Anywho, let’s give it a swing—and unlike the Mets, hopefully it’ll work! 😂

Notes:
-The games today and tomorrow will both be on SNY.
-The weather forecast for tonight's game at Nationals Park looks decent despite their being a thunderstorm prior to it. Click
HERE to keep updated and see Hourly AccuWeather Reports for there.
-The Mets suffered their 6th loss yesterday when leading after 8 innings since May 1st. As of the end of yesterday afternoon’s game, no other team has more than two. Additionally, the Mets are 24-35 & in 4th place in the N.L. East. They’re 3.5 games behind the 3rd place Nats, who they’re playing for the first time this season tonight in the first game of a three-game set. They’re dangerous when it comes to stealing bases, so that’s something to take note of.

-The Mets' 4-man bench for tonight’s game will consist of
Nido (R), Taylor (R), McNeil (L), & Stewart (L).
Mets play better without angry douche complaining McNeil. I’m sticking to my never liking him and his “grit”
Alonso, it’s like you want him to return but only at a sub 3 yesr deal at low end. No way a team pays him a lot.
Lindor, I’m saying it now may age into his contract as a value if he can stay healthy every year. In 5 years SS contract values will all be his price or more.
Soto 2025.
Also his constant temper tantrums are annoying to me as well.
Wouldn't that be nice....we've been waiting long enough, especially with Peterson.
After she brightens my day, I go to MLB.com and check their highlight package. Vientos is becoming another day-brightener. That was some throw across the diamond, from his knees.
Peterson 'throws grounders' and that's his calling card. Let him start on rotation.
1. the defense has gone off a cliff and
2. his max exit velocity, which is presumably the best hit ball he's hit all year, is 6 mph lower than his best hit ball last year and the best hit balls he's hit in all his prior years.
he has clearly trended negatively in the power department and yet he is hitting more balls in the air. seems like a bad combination. hard to not think the elbow may be a bigger issue than they expected.
his k-rate is still great and he is still squaring balls up so there is some hope he can still hit for a high average if he can get back to more line drives. k-rate and squaring balls up correlate somewhat predictively with BA. also his avg. ev is same as it ever was.
And I don’t want to crow too early, but it looks like we’ve found our everyday 3B.
agreed, the good thing is that he has the versatility that if he becomes a part time player in multiple positions he can still have value if he can hit even with less power. he may just need to trend more towards being a platoon option. no huge split this year but over his career he was about 10% better vs righties.
Knee "issue".
Yeah, saw that one. Good stuff, particularly with Baty struggling. I had almost written Vientos off as a 3B. I really need to stop believing minor league defensive scouting reports (Alonso, Alvarez, Vientos)

Notes:
-Today’s game will be on SNY, but the games in London against the Phillies won’t be carried by any local affiliates for either side.
-The weather forecast for today's game at Nationals Park is questionable due to rain and thundertorms in the forecast there. Click HERE to keep updated and see Hourly AccuWeather Reports for there.
-The Mets are going for the sweep today in D.C. against the Nationals; this is the first series they’ve won since the early portion of May against the Cardinals. The Mets have won 23 of their last 34 games against the Nats. To start the day, the Mets are only a game and a half behind them in the standings for 3rd place in the N.L East. The Mets and Nats will play again on July 1st in D.C. again.

he came into today +1 OAA, neutral DRS. i think we may be getting close to a point where his odds of being the 3b going forward are flipping to for from against.

it's definitely the skill that can be most variable. even someone like JDD was terrible defensively as a met, but did get a lot better in SF at least for 1 year last year.
it's just very variable in general i suppose if you think about how quickly marte and mcneil have fallen off.
not sure what weather report looks like, but sounds like not good?

now and 5, 40% chance of rain. 6 & 7 looks like no rain. 8 50% chance again. Could be a window, but who knows.
They are talking about adding him on WIP (Philadelphia) radio. I didn't listen or hear who they would give up.

5:30 start.
@WxMets
5:30 first pitch in DC. Radar looks good right now. Can't rule out another round later but looking good to start. #LGM

Lots of great D for both teams so far.
Gotta keep Nido. Torrens is gonna get the Gary Sanchez treatment once Alvarez is ready next week.

Has he figured out that there's no fighting in baseball? He's prepared to fuck up guys who don't fight. I'd love to see the tough guy in an MMA ring.
Well, he's a career .226 hitter with 19 total home runs before today. He seems to have a good arm.

MLB.com - Gameday Wrap
I want him back next year with the Mets. He's showing that he's part of the solution, not the problem. Mets are gonna have at least three kids in the rotation between next year and into 2026 (e.g., Scott, Tidwell, and Sproat). Severino would be a nice veteran to be mix in with that group.
I think so! I'll take this as a vote for "Yes, let's continue!", lol.

That and playing the Nat's....I thought they were supposed to be better this year?
Jose Iglesias is making me even less excited about Jeff McNeil's contract. I mean, Iglesias can play it seems and has a MLB track record to suggest this isn't a DJ Stewart fluke-ish few games...
Nice to win a few games; makes last Sunday's BP meltdown even harder to live with..
Off to London...
My vote:
-We should continue the series thread format. It consolidates things more.

After a series sweep in the first series thread, is this even a question? Series threads, only, please! Thanks for doing these Optimus.
I'll cast my ballot right now in early Primary Voting -- Series Thread.
What exactly is Severino's Contract status ?? I want to keep him as long as possible as a bridge to the Young Guns.
