Can you remember a Giants first-round draft pick since Eli with such expectations? Maybe Barkley to some extent... But wow... Is it legit? Or fake news?
...when a play broke down and Lock escaped the pocket. It reminded me of what Boylhart had to say about him...
Quote:
I feel the best skill set Malik has, which a lot of other top receivers in this draft do not have, is his ability to make himself available to his quarterback when the play breaks down. He senses when to go deep, work into a space, or go back to the quarterback without being directed. Most coaches will tell the receivers, depending on the arm strength of the quarterback, to go deep or go back to the QB when a play breaks down. Malik sees what is happening, evaluates what the QB needs at that time, and makes himself available. It could be going deep, or it could be stopping in a zone, or simply going back to the QB. This is a signal that Malik understands the quarterback position and how it needs to interact with the receiver position. He has an excellent feel for the game and that is what separates him, along with his athletic talent, from the other top receivers in the draft.
I haven't seen a WR class like this with size/speed/hands/routes in a while. Nabers looked to me, like a blend of Tyreek Hill and Jamar Chase. Not as fast as Hill, and not quite as physical as Chase, but bigger than HIll and quicker laterally than Chase.
Rooting for Odunze as well in Chicago. Class guy i wouldn't have blinked an eye at #6.
Hype, well that is what living in the Media capital of the world does.
A guy with Nabers skills should thrive in today’s game. Defenses can’t touch a guy. It’s like flag football rules and it fits his skillset very well. I am expecting huge numbers from him this season with a lot of YAC. Just stay healthy.
I find it interesting there were rumors about character about this kid before the draft. Seems like a great kid that loves the game and works hard. It’s crazy how the media can spin things. Some called him Toney 2.0 and it seems just made up crap.
OBJ did have the hamstring issues his rookie year.
OL is a big key and hopefully BD has made some adjustments and can develop a better run game with the RB's. This will take pressure of the OL in pass sets and will make the skill group and MN more impactful.
RE: RE: To me he’s a guy who’s only limitation will be health
Look I am excited about Nabers so don't get me wrong, but Saquon was the #2 pick. And his rookie year more than justified the hype. While there was a lot of debate about the value of him being a #2 selection, his college tape was legit!
Even for OBJ, we had to wait a few weeks to see the payoff. #26 was that dude year 1.
most here I read all the pre draft experts on Malik and almost
every "expert" mentioned the competitive drive Nabers has.
He has crazy talent.......but the drive to succeed really
makes me excited him this year.
I don't really remember a lot of OBJ hype. He got hurt in training camp (can't really remember at what point) and I for one was shocked by what he brought to the table.
My recollection from the draft time frame was that there was probably more disappointment than hype from people who wanted Donald or Martin at that point. Both points of view have aged quite well.

This seems most accurate to me
He was the 12th pick and I don't recall that being a big surprise.
He was simply much better than most anticipated, and certainly faster
Anyone watching him pre-draft saw the talent
There hasn't been much hype for a 6th overall pick.

That was me. Until yesterday, I thought maybe he was being held out of practice as it was that quiet on him.
The Barkley hype/hand of God was insane from the day he was drafted.

The only question is whether Jones can get him the ball.
There hasn't been much hype for a 6th overall pick.
Is that due to the lack of media availability at practices or lack of practices in general?

I wouldn't say OBJ was hyped early. He wasn't a top 10 pick, and he was the 3rd WR taken.
And remember his hamstring issues in camp and the first 4 games? Posters here were calling him soft.

Correct

we had posters asking why there was no news on Nabers.

Neither. The hype started this Thursday.
Hopefully he stays out of trouble in New York. Very tempting place.
Nabers > A QB in 2024.
I don't agree about OBJ, he was good at LSU, but I don't think anybody could anticipate the spectacular player he became with the Giants.
He doesn't need to be ALL PRO to make a significant positive difference.

he has off the charts ability and it sounds like he’s a workhorse and coachable.

Why, what goes on there that is different than say Miami, Los Angeles or Vegas?

He’s at the same risk for trouble as any other player, why the disclaimer for him?
Yup, my initial QB panic kind of blinded me from how good this pick can be. The QB will happen when it’s supposed to.
Even for OBJ, we had to wait a few weeks to see the payoff. #26 was that dude year 1.
Nonetheless, I am excited to see Nabers play.
