Rizzo looks absolutely awful. Kinda reminiscent of what Justin Morneau looked like after a severe concussion.
I have a little more hope for LeMahieu, but he's on the wrong side of 30 and he's not getting any younger.
I'd see if I could chisel Ryan McMahon from COL if we could.
There's Gleyber nonchalant on another ground ball. Gotta get at least 1 out on that grounder, and I realize the hop wasn't ideal, but you are a major leaguer.
He's done it twice in a row the last 2 nights. And it's not like his bat isn't anything that great that it can't be replaced.
You can probably get the same production out of Jorbit Vivas at a fraction of the cost of what Gleyber is going to want in free agency.
Never mind about Vivas, he's on the struggle bus at AAA, I didn't know that, but the point remains. Gleyber hasn't progressed to the point where he's going to deserve the $$$ he waants.
really hope the beancounters are paying attention.
Oh, you can bet your ass Hal is realizing what this offense is without Soto. You can what you want about the guy (and I have); but he's no dummy. This injury and performance by the offense all but solidified Soto will be in pinstripes for the rest of his career.
There are going to be ebbs and flows over the long season and it's tough to get down on a team that had just won 8 in a row.
That said, they will need new 1B/2B/3B going forward. I've taken heat for saying this in the past, but Torres is the Gary Sanchez of second-basemen; he shouldn't be re-signed. Whether it's concussion-related or decline due to age, something is clearly not right with Rizzo both with the errors in the field and his bad at-bats where he invariably rolls over weak grounders to the right side. The days of DJLM hitting .300 are gone.
I get that the Yankees have a logjam in the OF and the Martian needs to get regular at-bats, but they can't let him languish in the minors; they need to get him into the lineup one way or another. The Grisham era has to end.
occur in the season that expose a team's weaknesses. We knew they need at least two competent BP arms.
It appears Rizzo is declining in front of our eyes. Being Judge's best friend will be an issue for Cashman to deal with.
DJLM started two years ago. He needs more time to acclimate and may still be able to get in the .280 range.
Torres has been on a slow slide for the past two years. But this year the pressure of a new contract is exposing the decline. He was always good for a few poor fielding days, but they are much more frequent now along with this likely being his worst season at the plate.
In a sense the Dodgers got lucky with the rotation alignment and Soto injury. Cortes is and has been their weakest starter all year. Can probably rationalize he is a #5 and would likely be a VG BP option when Cole returns(well until the Schmidt injury).

Good observation 125.
And the Yankees got the short end of the SP rotation by getting LA’s top 3…with Paxton and Buehler being 4 and 5 this year. I guess when Kershaw comes back and is healthy, Paxton probably rotates to the bullpen.
Had to hightail out of there after the grand slam, set up
by our beloved Torres, amidst Let’s Go Dodgers chants. Tried to teach Hal a lesson by not paying for any souvenirs but I see he circumvented that by selling Ohtani jerseys. If that imbecile continues to complain about 300M payrolls, I am going to lose it. If your entire roster is hinged on a 35M player in line for 60M next year, how about doing something about it?
Did Boone try to defend Torres last night? Is that how Torres always tries to field grounders? By booting it? I’ve seen weaker grounders than Rizzo’s during my morning little league games.
Remember, Gil wasn’t making the team until Cole got hurt. Whoever eventually replacing Rizzo and Torres won’t be up until something happens to them. They are always reactionary and one step too late. Let’s see what happens with Dominguez. The next few weeks will be tough, I anticipate some rough waters and then the youngsters will come up to inject some life.
Fix Peraza now, so he can come take Torres’ job. If he doesn’t want it, let’s give Vivas or Durbin a chance. Heck I rather see Cabrera there. And let’s not waste Rice at C, bring him up after a couple of more weeks at AAA. Knowing you have Wells above and Ramirez after him, why would you waste half a year of a 25 yo’s development in AA and at catcher?
RE: By the way as pathetic as it is for an adult to bring a glove
To a game, if you drop a ball with one like that jamoke did on Judge's HR you should be banned from ballparks for life.
THIS
People being "triggered" by someone bringing a glove to a baseball game is borderline pathetic...what's next banning drinking beer and eating hotdogs - well ok ban if they put ketchup on the hotdog, then it is ok.

True. Maybe the dude should have worn his little league uniform to the game too.

Geezus, I did not think they would bring him up because of the OF congestion until late. Now I think there is no way they can't bring him up once his rehab at SWB is completed.
Mr. Grisham DFA'd in the future unless a small trade can be made.
Absurd #s
Pretty clear he’s not a minor league player anymore. Not much to be gained from a developmental standpoint to have him tee off on AAA pitching - just finish off he’s rehab and get him to the Bronx.
I’m confident Dominguez would earn his way into the cleanup spot by the end of the season. Verdugo-Stanton-Torres-Rizzo isn’t exactly a murderers’ row in terms of competition. Hope he gets a chance.
Perfect solution that unfortunately will never happen. Sell high on Stanton and try to trade him and Dominguez goes right into the DH spot. Stanton does have a no trade clause. The Giants have been missing out on all the big free agents. It’s on the west coast. The value of Stanton will never be any higher.

At risk of getting slammed, I agree with this 100%. Yes, Stanton is having his best season in years, but yes, he is likely to get injured soon and/or revert back to the guy who hits the ball to the moon in one out of every 23 at-bats...but strikes out in 14 of the other 22. See if he will agree to go to one of the California teams, and the Yankees eat a big chunk of the money. There's the slot for Martian.
Not surprising. No sense half assing his recovery.
I agree. With Dominguez dominating in AAA, maybe just put Soto on the IL and bring up Dominguez. Grisham is not the answer.
Wait. Why would you put Soto on the IL exactly? The Yankees are historically over cautious with injuries. If he’s going to miss a bunch of time, they will IL him but none of us know anything about the injury. Rushing to put him on the IL just because sounds like a plan that comes from not having any knowledge of the injury
Course I have no info. I’m just sayin IF they continue to say he’s available and still not have him pitch hitting AND having Grisham playing it might be something to consider. He’s already missed 3 games. Assume doesn’t get in tonight.

I hear what you’re saying but he’s missed two games so far, not 3 and they are saying he may be available tonight (though not starting) and he is likely back during the Royals series, possibly as soon as tomorrow. Soto is also on record as saying this injury doesn’t affect him at all on the field. Knowing all of that and the fact that this division could very likely come down to a game or two I just don’t see a reason to throw away 7 more games if it’s not necessary. Players play through shit all the time and I’m not a fan of rushing guys to the IL when it’s not needed

I hate to sell low with Torres but he and Rizzo aren't showing up this season
That was my argument, but how do you not bring him up? Boone will have to find room. (Yeah, good luck)
I'd say it was a success.
His batting average is below 200 and his OBP is below 300 in that span.
I'd say it was a success.
Success if he feels well tomorrow. Good to hear he was maintaining the speed.
Good. That was a horseshit effort covering first before he let up the salami
Well the announcer said "429" but I think she was cheating him by about 59 feet or so. Judge for yourself...
Link - ( New Window )
Dominguez continues to LITERALLY dominate AAA.
Dennis Santana (who sucks absolute ass) DFA'd.
Marinaccio called back up.
Great day.
BTW, can you imagine, Volpe, Verdugo, Soto, Judge and Dominguez all in the same lineup? Good God, I almost feel bad for the other teams' pitchers.

Ron Marinaccio is back with the Yankees
Good. That was a horseshit effort covering first before he let up the salami
Started out well and steadily fell apart as the year worn on....hasta la vista
The Yankees are loaded in the outfield. They need a new infield around Volpe.
Because he is a lefty????
