DaveInTampa : 6/11/2024 11:33 pm
Wonder what # he is after. Maybe taking Waller's #12?
88
blueblood : 6/11/2024 11:34 pm : link

I think he's taking 3.
He should go either 88 or 6 and see if Gillan will give it up
Rjanyg : 6/12/2024 9:30 am : link
Gillan or Robinson, provided he makes the team, can take number 12.
He wants #8

I say give him 8 switch with Jones, then we will put to rest if it is the number or the player talent that makes the difference…

back in the day..........

LOL

Just picture those looks....the impending comments at practice.

I can hear them now!
12 is the only current number available for a WR
Jim in Tampa : 6/12/2024 12:36 pm : link
Other numbers that MIGHT be available after cuts…

6 Bryce Ford-Wheaton
15 Allen Robinson
18 Isaiah Hodgins
80 Gunner Olszewski
81 Miles Boykin
83 Lawrence Cager
84 Tyree Jackson
85 Chris Manhertz
87 Isaiah McKenzie
88 Dennis Houston
89 Jack Stoll

I prefer 88, but I think Nabers will take #6.

I'm fine with anything but 89... as that's really a TE number and I'm still not over the fact that 89 was also Toney's number of choice.
Likely to get roasted for this but I think you can honor

old players but also not retire their numbers. Or retire numbers with a time limit or something.
Retiring jerseys is prudent...
x meadowlander : 6/12/2024 2:10 pm : link
...but with a large roster sport, you wind up with few available numbers for active players and it's hard to retire more.

The answer? It would be tough to get used to - but, go to a Hexadecimal numbering system. >:)
00-FF provides 256 unique numbers.

Also, after 75 years, I think it's not sacrelige to put retired numbers back in circulation.

Ray Flaherty, Tuffy Leemans, Mel Hein, Al Blozis, Ken Strong would free up 1, 4, 7, 32, and 50.

You're welcome!
Oh come on kid

I agree with this. Retiring numbers is kind of a silly practice anyway, especially in a sport that has positional number rules. And the Giants, owing to their lengthy history, have more retired numbers than most.

I think a ring of honor and some sort of historical exhibit (similar to Monument Part for the Yanks) that gives some background on each player/coach/exec/owner who is included would be great - arguably better and more meaningful than a retired number for a name that most fans today have never recognized. Our very own Larry could probably write those bios and historical backgrounds perfectly.

But put the numbers back in circulation, even if there's a temporary period where the number is held out (10 years maybe?), there are too many retired already.
