CB Tre Herndon, a tryout for the #NYGiants here at minicamp, made a nice play on a deflected Tommy DeVito pass popped in air by Darrian Beavers, taking it to the house with the rest of the defense chasing him to party in the end zone.

. A quality vet added to the mix after he had an interception for a TD at today's minicamp practice.
Herndon has played in 83 career games with 34 starts.
Much Like Neal and Ezeudu, all 3 came with great expectations….and all 3 have laid plenty of eggs.
Thus, I am very happy with this quality pick up. If nothing else, a very good Plan B, if Plan A crashes and burns for whatever reason. He and Long make me feel much better.

Neal was a top-10 pick and was almost universally graded that high by all reports.
Flott and Ezeudu were both third round picks, and neither was considered a steal where they were drafted (decent value maybe, but nothing really noteworthy about the selection of either).
______________
Based only on Eric’s scouting report, Herndon seems like an upgrade over Long, but the roster has room for both of them. Hawkins, Flott and McCloud all need to get looks at CB.
he's better in the slot, but he has some good position versatility as a DB.
Quote:
When Shaquill Griffin missed time during the 2022 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ first choice to replace him in the lineup was veteran cornerback Tre Herndon. It didn’t work out well, though.
The fifth-year veteran with 30 career starts struggled on the outside and the Jaguars cycled through other options before finding consistent play from Darious Williams. It wasn’t until he was moved to the slot late in the season that Jacksonville got quality play out of Herndon.

As a coach and as an organization, when you have guys that you can count on, those are hard to get rid of.” – Jaguars passing game coordinator Deshea Townsend on Herndon
If Herndon offers more than what the Giants could get from Jackson I think it's a very smart signing. Veteran talent to guide the younger CB's is tremendous for the D.

When they gave Adoree's # away, that was the indication that he wasn't coming back.

I'm a fan of Flott. I think he has really performed well in some games and there have been other not so great performances. The first time I really noticed him was how well he played AJ Brown in the 22' season finale. Last year he played really well against the Jets if memory serves. He's been up and down his first two years. Perhaps this is the year where it clicks.
RE: RE: they keep signign CBs two vets with Long/Herndon
Jordan Phillips was a month before Long, we will see if they add another plus the Burns mega deal.
i mean vet backup types. not big money.
i guess Phillips is the pass rush vet DT type you are right, but hes hurt a lot.
Azeez is the backup pass rusher but hes hurt a lot.
no edge run defender guy/role yet, maybe boogie basham they are hoping does this.
would like to see a tweener edge run defender/pass rusher who can kick inside on 3rd down alongside Dex for pass rush.
Vet swing T is the other critical role missing, i just dont buy Nelson being that guy.
other than that i think the roster has enough options/players to go around to fill every hole.
FB is another, but very few teams carry it, i imagine well see bellinger and some of the blocking TEs fill this role. would be cool to see chatman too.

I’m with you, I’ve watched Flott and I think he has a chance. Based on where he was drafted and the very little hype he received coming out of the draft I have high hopes on him turning into a quality player.
RE: they keep signign CBs two vets with Long/Herndon
Perhaps they are happy with what they have at interior DLine? I also don't get this pass rush DT thing. They have Dex. How many teams have two DT pass rushers starting or even two on the team.

- Dollars to donuts Eluemunor is the real swing tackle. I bet if either goes down it is him that they move to either spot.
- Chris Manhertz is no different from a fullback. He has 26 catches in 120 games and 2700 snaps; his job is blocking and nothing else, it is the same role as a fullback.

I think you're underestimating Flott. He's never going to be All World but he fits nicely into the Giants defensive backfield. Would I put him on an island? Absolutely not! In a zone package I would put him in in a second.

Fair point noted, Dunk. You are right, 3rd round draft choices should not elicit GREAT EXPECTATIONS……so when I considered why I said “great” I think it’s because BBI was very positive and salivating over Ezeudu and Flott…which caused me to …..get excited and increase my level of expectations for that pair. I now can see the error of my ways…..thanks for “correcting” my thinking in a kind manner…..that surprised me. And you didn’t even mention my love for the Buffalo Bills either……are you mellowing in your old age? I’d be curious to know if you are older than me…I’m 70!
Do feel Herndon provides the vet and natural experience at corner. I suspect he will stay unless they're blown away by David Long or Darnay Holmes. I have to feel Banks, Flott and Phillips are locks. McCloud is there too being a swiss army knife role.

Flott is the pencilled in starter right now. Herndon was working in the slot behind a number of players.
David Long is here too.
If a couple players can make strides this year, such as Belton, Flott and Hawkins, this defense can be good.
Thus, I am very happy with this quality pick up. If nothing else, a very good Plan B, if Plan A crashes and burns for whatever reason. He and Long make me feel much better.
