Guys chill on the pen. They've been solid most of the year and picked a great night to be shaky. They'll make some tweaks adding injured guys like Efross/Trevino and probably trade for an arm or 2 before the deadline. You play every day in baseball for 6 months there's gonna be some ups and downs. 49-21 is just glorious.
Hey Stu - when one guy comes in and is shaky ok. Not three. Now of course, Hamilton should have been out of the inning on a blown call that likely gets a blemish on the umpires scorecard it was so bad. 3 runs scored because of it. But even so, it made the count 1-2 and all of a sudden Hamilton couldn't find the strike zone.
Kahnle is at best questionable and Ferguson is just filling a uniform. Guy is effective 1 out of 3 games it seems. It was an 11-2 game. There is no reason for Holmes to even put his shoes on, never mind have to start to warm up.
Most teams bullpens get worn out because of the starters. This team's BP gets worn out because of themselves.
He's the same age as those guys too. A very good player coming up at the same time and same position as two great players.
For sure. But looking back on it, you could have made the argument that A Rod, Nomar, and Tejada were all better offensively than Jeter. Turns out Jeter had a supremely better career than Nomar and Tejada, and we know what happened with A Rod. I have no reason to think either Witt or Gunnar will fall off, but I guess I'm saying it remains to be written. I'm happy to support our local guy, and if he gets stuck being third fiddle, it's bad luck but I'm still glad we have Volpe.

The famous SI cover with all of them (6) on the cover including Omar Vizquel...Jeter the only one in the HoF, no?

Volpe will be just fine.
I think you're referring to the below linked picture? I definitely remembered different players being involved. Link - ( New Window )

yeah, that's what I'm taking away from this series too. Yanks are bashing them but Witt is really, really good.

Unfortunately our guy Volpe may be (slightly) outclassed by Witt and Gunnar, which is no knock on Volpe.

No, I believe it was Sports Illustrated and all were in uniform. Maybe it wasn't SI..
I like that formula.
I like that formula.
Tried an true method - that and wait out the starter and destroy the relievers.
