this is a really cool short read about Tonkin. I know he looks it but I didn't realize he was 34. What a great story. Knew he got released by the Mets twice in April, and the Twins too they talk about that on the telecasts. However just a great story of perseverance, and here he is pitching in the late innings of tight games 3 out of 4 days for the first place Yankees. Can't help but root a little more than usual for the guy. Link - ( New Window )
I've noticed over the years that a lot of pitchers in their 20's
find a closer. This guy pitches himself into a jam almost every time he steps onto the mound. You can't have that in your closer. Closer are supposed to put out fires, not start them.
The misplay is weird because Holmes needs to scoop that up and he easily beats Waters to the bag so to me that's as much on him. The Isbel ab was the killer. He's gotta put that scrub away. Garcia is a good young player, no shame getting beat by him though.
I know it's tough to remember because it's the Royals; but they were 12 games over .500 before this series started, so they are a good team. If you'd have told me before Game 1 that we were gonna take 3 out of 4 (and in dominating fashion), we'd have taken it all day long.
the team has less holes then most teams but the holes it has will bite the team come playoff time because they are serious flaws covered up when playing pedestrian teams.

Absolutely the few holes have to be fixed. No one's saying any differently. No team is perfect.
on plays around the bag - Michael Kay picked up on it awhile ago and he’s right. He makes the pitcher field throws when he could easily jog to the base and tag it himself. Today I guess he wanted Holmes to field the ball and tag the base while he stood there watching. It’s irritating. You’re the (former) Gold Glove fielder - handle everything you can, the pitchers are working hard enough out there as it is.
They were down 2-0 going into the 8th and could've just said 'fuck it, we won the series, lets just get ready for Boston tomorrow and get on this plane.' But, they didn't do that. They fought back and even took the lead. Yankee teams of the recent past wouldn't have done that and would've just laid down and gotten on that plane alittle bit faster.
This team has heart and gigantic balls. Such a great, likable team. They have some flaws. Every team does. But they are absolutely the best team in MLB.

I've watched some Royals this year because Cole Ragans is a fantasy keeper and I also have Seth Lugo. I do not want to play them in a short series. There are some days Ragans is hittable, but others when he's lights out. His stuff is filthy. Seth Lugo is what he is: a good #3 starter who is pitching like a low-end 1/high-end 2 this year. I doubt it lasts, but he's a dependable pitcher.
This game particularly sucked, but overall it was a good series. Time to put down the Red Sox, who have just taken it to the Phillies, somewhat surprisingly.
Royals
Since you didn't start it, I figured that. Yeah, Nestor has been iffy and worse away.

Had the same thought.

Yeah, pitches that he couldn't handle. Keep throwing it and stop wasting pitches.
Just one of those days
It Rizzo's playing they need someone to bring heat.
Maybe late season if everyone's healthy that's the move for Gil.
To win the W.S.
Where’s M.R.?
Yes he does, this games on him. My concern is when the games become important in October I don’t know how you trust this guy.

Exactly. Have a closer that pitches to contact is dangerous.

And yeah, Mariano is my favorite Yankee ever.
I think there's a connection between those two things.
