Just in case you did not realize it is an afternoon game.

Hope to sweep these guys and keep the AL Central dominance.

Royals

I did not, in fact know that it is a day game

Hope Nestor can do better today - been scuffling lately.

Since you didn't start it, I figured that. Yeah, Nestor has been iffy and worse away.
I get these stories in my email from MLB.com
Stu11 : 6/13/2024 12:22 pm : link
this is a really cool short read about Tonkin. I know he looks it but I didn't realize he was 34. What a great story. Knew he got released by the Mets twice in April, and the Twins too they talk about that on the telecasts. However just a great story of perseverance, and here he is pitching in the late innings of tight games 3 out of 4 days for the first place Yankees. Can't help but root a little more than usual for the guy.

I've noticed over the years that a lot of pitchers in their 20's
GeofromNJ : 6/13/2024 12:35 pm : link
look like they're in their mid thirties. Must be the pressure of pitching.
The world is ending!

No runs in top of 1st.
Atlanta is shutting out Baltimore 3-0 in the fifth
Greg from LI : 6/13/2024 2:23 pm : link
Would be nice to gain a game on them
This looks like a get away day

Rizzo got a little

to lazy on that play - or maybe too slow tossing it to Torres.

Slop merchants like this guy
Greg from LI : 6/13/2024 2:52 pm : link
always seem to give the Yankees the most trouble
bags are packed when Judge strikes out twice in 2 ABs
Victor in CT : 6/13/2024 2:56 pm : link
but agree with Greg, these noodle arms always give them trouble.
cmon, Nestor

A two run double to that joker? Jeez
Cortes fucks around too GD
section125 : 6/13/2024 3:09 pm : link
much with the goofy arm actions. Has Pasquintino 0-2 and he couldn't just throw a slider low and away. Even a FB low and away.
He did throw a couple of fastballs down and away though
Greg from LI : 6/13/2024 3:10 pm : link
One fouled off, one missed the plate

Yeah, pitches that he couldn't handle. Keep throwing it and stop wasting pitches.
getting no hit through 5 by THIS guy?

Going through the motions today
More action in the US Open
section125 : 6/13/2024 3:14 pm : link
than in this game.

Soto saves a run with a nice running catch.
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 3:19 pm : link
Maybe we’ll show a pulse now.
Orioles within a run now.
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 3:22 pm : link
.
Guess we didn’t save any runs
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 3:45 pm : link
for the series finale. Soto breaks the no-hitter, at least.
Lots uggggggllllllyy swings today
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/13/2024 3:49 pm : link
at pitches that aren’t even good.

Just one of those days
Orioles lose.
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 3:53 pm : link
It would almost be cruel if we stole this game from KC, but let’s do it anyway.
Rizzo with a solo HR.
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 3:56 pm : link
He’s alive!
Gotta let Mel Hall pinch hit here.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/13/2024 4:00 pm : link
He’s due for one
1st and 3rd for Volpe, one out.
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 4:03 pm : link
Let’s go!
KC gets away with an obvious balk.
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 4:05 pm : link
And balks are rarely obvious.
Soto = CLUTCH
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/13/2024 4:10 pm : link

Soto comes through as usual.
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 4:10 pm : link
3-2 good guys.
SOTO!!!!

Weaver a bit wild

but gets through the eighth.

Rizzo asleep at first.

Here we go again
Beer Man : 6/13/2024 4:42 pm : link
with Holmes the Heart Attack kid.
a misplayed grounder and hits by two worthless shitbag hitters
Greg from LI : 6/13/2024 4:44 pm : link
oy
Obviously Holmes has to get the job done
ajr2456 : 6/13/2024 4:45 pm : link
But that’s a much on Rizzo as anyone else
They have got to get another first baseman
Greg from LI : 6/13/2024 4:45 pm : link
.
Holmes has gotta be better than that.
Dave in Hoboken : 6/13/2024 4:45 pm : link

This team needs to ...
Beer Man : 6/13/2024 4:46 pm : link
find a closer. This guy pitches himself into a jam almost every time he steps onto the mound. You can't have that in your closer. Closer are supposed to put out fires, not start them.
Rizzo sucks....he needs to go
Jints in Carolina : 6/13/2024 4:46 pm : link
And Holmes scares the shit out of me very time he comes in.
Kicked that one away
dune69 : 6/13/2024 4:49 pm : link
sucks
If you're relying on a soft contact closer
HBart : 6/13/2024 4:57 pm : link
Your defense has to be impeccable.

It Rizzo's playing they need someone to bring heat.

Maybe late season if everyone's healthy that's the move for Gil.
Need a closer
M.S. : 6/13/2024 4:58 pm : link

To win the W.S.

Where’s M.R.?
Bummer of a loss but you can't win them all
Stu11 : 6/13/2024 5:01 pm : link
The misplay is weird because Holmes needs to scoop that up and he easily beats Waters to the bag so to me that's as much on him. The Isbel ab was the killer. He's gotta put that scrub away. Garcia is a good young player, no shame getting beat by him though.
Can't have fielders booting
section125 : 6/13/2024 5:02 pm : link
balls. Can't have closers blowing leads. I suppose I will take 3-1 every series.
WTF was Rizzo doing on that play??

Took 3 out of 4 against a good KC team.
Dave in Hoboken : 6/13/2024 5:42 pm : link
I know it's tough to remember because it's the Royals; but they were 12 games over .500 before this series started, so they are a good team. If you'd have told me before Game 1 that we were gonna take 3 out of 4 (and in dominating fashion), we'd have taken it all day long.

Exactly. Have a closer that pitches to contact is dangerous.
Lets not candy coat the loss
xman : 6/13/2024 5:49 pm : link
the team has less holes then most teams but the holes it has will bite the team come playoff time because they are serious flaws covered up when playing pedestrian teams.

Absolutely the few holes have to be fixed. No one's saying any differently. No team is perfect.
If they are going to continue to trot out
LW_Giants : 6/13/2024 6:05 pm : link
The corpse of Rizzo, they at least need to sub him out defensively late in games
Rizzo asks way too much of pitchers
bceagle05 : 6/13/2024 6:46 pm : link
on plays around the bag - Michael Kay picked up on it awhile ago and he’s right. He makes the pitcher field throws when he could easily jog to the base and tag it himself. Today I guess he wanted Holmes to field the ball and tag the base while he stood there watching. It’s irritating. You’re the (former) Gold Glove fielder - handle everything you can, the pitchers are working hard enough out there as it is.
I watched Mason Miller give up a GW HR yesterday

Del Shofner : 6/13/2024 9:24 pm : link
they're my least favorite way to lose a baseball game.

And yeah, Mariano is my favorite Yankee ever.

I think there's a connection between those two things.
Give the offense some credit.
Dave in Hoboken : 6/13/2024 10:28 pm : link
They were down 2-0 going into the 8th and could've just said 'fuck it, we won the series, lets just get ready for Boston tomorrow and get on this plane.' But, they didn't do that. They fought back and even took the lead. Yankee teams of the recent past wouldn't have done that and would've just laid down and gotten on that plane alittle bit faster.

This team has heart and gigantic balls. Such a great, likable team. They have some flaws. Every team does. But they are absolutely the best team in MLB.

I've watched some Royals this year because Cole Ragans is a fantasy keeper and I also have Seth Lugo. I do not want to play them in a short series. There are some days Ragans is hittable, but others when he's lights out. His stuff is filthy. Seth Lugo is what he is: a good #3 starter who is pitching like a low-end 1/high-end 2 this year. I doubt it lasts, but he's a dependable pitcher.

This game particularly sucked, but overall it was a good series. Time to put down the Red Sox, who have just taken it to the Phillies, somewhat surprisingly.
