With OTAs and minicamp in the rearview mirror, the Giants.com crew discusses the major storylines coming out of spring practices and heading into training camp:

John Schmeelk: Nothing is set in stone, but we have an idea of what the Giants want the offense line to look like from left to right: Andrew Thomas, Jermaine Eluemunor, John Michael Schmitz, Jon Runyan, and Evan Neal.

We didn't see this group together much outside of position drills due to Neal's injury recovery, but that should be how the Giants start off training camp when they finally have padded practices. I am interested to see the impact that new offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo can have on the group, including Neal once he is able to get on the field in pads...

I thought Runyan would be playing left guard. Guess not.
Two reasons why Runyon will

play RG.
1. he's familiar with both sides
2. there "other" guard candidates are essentially LGs
if Eluemonor has to go to RT for Neal, these guys can fit in nicely at LG.

Runyan has been playing Right Guard for the past year and a half. It has also been reported that he has been practicing only at Right guard throughout OTA'S.

Runyon has 1500 snaps at RG, in game. More before that. it's a non issue.
Runyon is a better OG than Eluemunor,

and they want the better player next to Neal. Give him every opportunity to succeed. If they need to move Eluemunor to RT, Neal can slide in at LG, where he played at Bama for a year.
Very early in training camp, they will have to make a decision on Neal

Otherwise, this is going to be a repeat of last preseason with a line that hasn’t played together.

If Neal isn’t ready physically at the start of camp, I think they have to pull the plug on him starting. If he is ready physically, I still wouldn’t give him more than 2 weeks to prove himself.

Nothing in Neal’s short history indicates that he can be an effective RT. I don’t think he has put together even 2 consecutive good games at RT.

And believe it or not, I am rooting for him since he is a native Floridian.
Calling it now, call it a Bold prediction

Neal has a big issue with his recovery process. It's going to linger, and he will be sidelined, so the Giants will have to move to plan B. In fact, I don't think he plays much in 2024. Just a hunch. Right now the Giants are praying he can go. They will try but he will be riding the bike by day 2 or 3 into camp. Bet on it.
JFC- Neal has played a grand total of

20 games (slightly more than one full season), and has been injured a bunch of those games.
PLUS, he has been asked to change technique by our previous OL coach, who we have acknowledged sucked!

Neal's tape from college is too good, he's a hard worker, if anyone can be successful its him.
The million dollar question is can he stay healthy long enough to develop. So far THAT answer is no!

If they move Eluemunor to RT either Stinnie or Ezeudu will get first crack at LG.

This. People shitting in his talent and play are being stupid. He been hurt. That bothers me more than him supposedly not being able to play at this level. If he can come in and have a full camp that will be a great thing. Will that happen? No one here knows. Not even sure the Giants know at this point
