Here we go again with another series thread, this time against the defending World Series champion Rangers in the Lone Star State. Enjoy 😊!
P.S. Sorry for the late posting for this series. Got caught up with some family-related things and just got home.

Notes:
-Tonight's and tomorrow’s games will each be broadcast by SNY.
-The weather won’t be an issue for this series since Globe Life Field in Arlington has a retractable roof. The Rangers are one of five teams in MLB that play on a synthetic surface. The others are Arizona, Miami, Toronto and Tampa Bay.
-The upcoming MLB All-Star Game will be played at Globe Life Field in Arlington next month. Let’s see who makes it to play here again for the Mets at the All-Star Game. Too bad Seth Lugo and Zack Wheeler are no longer with the team since they’re having All-Star seasons. In any case, the Mets have won 9 of their last 11 games—they had a total of just 9 for the entirety of the month of May.

-The Mets' 4-man bench for tonight’s game will consist of
Torrens (R), Iglesias (R), Marte (R), & Bader (R).
If they buy at the deadline, it'd be for bullpen help. Any additions that can help the club though would mostly be from within: either Senga coming back after the All-Star Break and/or the kids in the minors stepping up (e.g., Scott, Vasil, Baty, Acuna, or Gilbert).
P.S. Alvarez should be named captain of the Mets NOW.
and somehow mauricio hits the ball harder than both of them.

each of their hardest hit balls on the season. alvarez hardest hit ball as a big leaguer, and at a key moment.

ive been swayed to thinking that was more eppler pushing vogelbach than buck. not sure and i dont think it totally excuses buck because nobody made him act the way he did, but its crazy to think about how much time was wasted.
I just have to wonder how much more rope they give McNeil? I guess since they’re winning, they don’t see it as that necessary, but at some point, they’re going to have to consider moving in another direction. I wonder how much work Baty will need in Cuse to get ready?

God thats a funny ass pic.
then you add in a Vientos breakout, Alvarez, and Bader/Marte having good years in the bottom half and this is a lineup that is a lot better than the group in 2022 even with McNeil struggling.
need diaz to be this version of diaz because other than him the pitching is largely mediocre, but this lineup is absolutely good enough to carry mediocre pitching. getting very close to time to start considering what a buying move could look like (luzardo? d-rob? jansen?).
Without Betts its a lot closer, but I can't say Lindor, Nimmo, Alonso and JDM is "it's darn close" to:
Betts
Ohtani
Freeman
Smith

Baty has only made 1 appearance at 2b, safe to say he's only getting a look over there to add to his utility vs. a legitimate option to replace McNeil.
Good for Tomas...always liked him even though he was never a great player. Ironically, he swung the bat best, I thought, in his last six weeks with the mets this spring.

i know by the time ST rolled around there was a general disappointment that the offseason was low key, and then he had the delayed start to the season, but right now they are getting the guy who hit cleanup in the ASG last year. it is very hard to do better than Lindor, Nimmo, JDM, Alonso #1-4. If that group isnt on the level of ATL/PHI/LAD it's darn close.

the bold (along with acuna out) is kind of a big factor there for at least the next 2 months, and even with Betts for most of the last 2 months the Mets offense has in fact been "darn close".
4/5 players most responsible for that are the ones i mentioned.
were it not for diaz/garrett blowing the 4 or 5 saves in a row they would be in a WC right now thanks to the offense producing like a top of league team.

that’ll show me! Great effort, but one thing I haven’t seen mentioned is Severino gutting it out into the 7th. That was key, shortening the game for the bullpen.

Thanks Dan, I thought they were giving him a longer look there.
marte vs lefties = 162 wrc
marte vs rights = 102 wrc
he is literally worst defensive player in MLB right now so id hope baty cant be worse.
dj right now is a 13 wrc vs lefties, so he is basically unplayable same side. vs righties he's 120. baty had a 96 wrc vs righties when he was up, so that was one role he was at least decent at. vs lefties he was 56.

You despise Smith as much as I despise McNeil, lol. Let’s jettison both of them to the moon.
Maybe/maybe not. I don't see much changing with him.

right down to whenever he finally leaves and thrives as a closer somewhere else with less pressure. here he cant seem to not give up rockets every other outing. 100% confident he is the next sewald/heath bell.

it will not happen here but he is going to find some stupid cutter grip or something and end up really good somewhere with minimal pressure like oakland.

+1
Drew Smith will ALWAYS SUCK. They guy is a waste of space. Phuq him. He needs to be DFAd if they can't trade him. Bring up a second lefty (Danny Young) to add to this pen in his place. The only leagues he might ever be successful in are the Mexican league or out east---in the FAAAAAR EAST in Korea or Japan, lol.

thats what happened with Paul Sewald.
Ottavino and his inability to hold runners on is ridiculous for a major league pitcher.

Ottavino scares me too, no doubt, but at least he's not a total washout who still has his moments, even at this late stage in his career. What has Drew Smith EVER done?
Thank God he's a FA at the end of this season. The Mets made him available this past off-season, but nobody wanted him. Smith was one of the tank commanders after the trade deadline last season for a reason.
What he does is throw gas on the fire.
The sooner he gets DFAd the better.
He's amazing. Wish we signed him. He's only making 10 million bucks this year to boot!
