Schwartz - With Saquon gone, Nabors has to take ....

Manny in CA : 6/23/2024 8:58 pm

The "Star" torch ....

(Saquon's light dimmed as he struggled through injuries and a lot of team losses; the last 1st magnitude Giants star was OBJ, before he was shipped off to the Browns)

The top jersey sales list - Surprisingly, three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes NOT #1 (he's #3)
Who the fuck is Nabors

Nabors, Jim. Played Gomer on Gomer Pyle USMC. I guess he must have been a free agent signed for vet minimum.

Nabers has to become an overrated centerpiece of a bad offense? Hopefully not.
Too old for jerseys...

...just score points.
Probably correct, but nobody knows the future.
81_Great_Dane : 6/23/2024 10:13 pm : link
There are a handful of guys on offense who could step up and be a breakout star. Robinson or Bellinger could really take off. Tracy or Theo Johnson could outperform their draft position. And, though it's very unlikely, (at the risk of being flamed) Daniel Jones could finally turn into the guy they hoped he'd be.

The torch will be passed if and when somebody is playing well enough to take it. Who knows who that could be...

For Nabers than what we got out of Saquon Barkley.

Nothing against Saquon, very talented player, fun to watch. However, there was a long list of injuries and his game had a lot of worts he never cleaned up.

Saquon was a top 3 "talent" at his position but arguably wasn't even a top 10 player at that position in half his seasons. Is that really what we want Nabers to "replace"???

Instead lets hope Malik brings what he did at LSU to NY.
Nabors?

Apples and oranges. I sort of understand the comparison but it's not the same. When we drafted Saquon, many posters openly questioned the shelf life or a RB. WR is completely different.

Exactly. Shelf life has always been an RB question which Gettleman compounded being a decade late in realizing that MVP RBs would be like pay phones and WRs like cell phones.

We've had some bad luck regarding the shelf life of our best receivers

Cruz, Nicks and Steve Smith all had their careers cut short because they couldn't come back from serious injury. Football is like that - for any position.

Right, but it's worse for certain positions.

They keep track of this sort of thing, we're not just guessing.
Back to Hurts @ No. 1 …..

Madison Ave is in love with Mahomes (State Farm ads) and again 3x champ, the public (they always love the cowbirds), why not Dak ?
good luck with that
HomerJones45 : 6/24/2024 1:22 pm : link
with our qb room.

OBJ played with a two time Super Bowl MVP who made guys like Randle and Meyers look like viable receivers.

RB's are not necessarily qb dependent; WR are.

I remember when Saquon was drafted this was brought up and he spent his first full training camp talking about all he was going to do to stay healthy, buck the trend and have a long career.

In his 6 years with the Giants he averaged 12 games a season and only played 2 full seasons.

Kid was always a model citizen and hard worker, I wish him the best in Philly, but everyone what every said would happen with him happened. He got hurt a lot, he didn't have a long shelf life here.

Agreed. And it's such a typical NY media thing to discuss.
Thanks a million, Uber ......
Manny in CA : 6/25/2024 1:45 pm : link

It was never my intention that this topic should descend into a serious discussion about player performance and viability but rather about popularity and associated "froufrou" subjects .... hence my mention that Hurts jerseys sell better than Mahomes jerseys.
My apologies Manny

I didn't mean to come off sounding critical of your post. That wasn't my intention, but I do see how it might have come off that way.

I'm yelling at the TV.... Don't give it to Barkley!!!!

Rarely got the tight short yards.

Once in a while he did... And people fall in love with him.
It's all good, Uber, no hidden agendas ....

Just mindless banter on a hot Summer afternoon (and certainly no hurt "feelins"). Have a wonderful day !
