The SC finals are in the rearview and the longest season in NHL history is put to bed.
The NHL Awards are handed out on Thursday night and the draft begins Friday night at the Sphere in Vegas.
The off-season is expected to be a busy one with the first salary cap increase since COVID. The players association opted to leave salaries as is instead of accepting a pay cut during the COVID season(s) and to do that they basically borrowed against future earnings, which suppressed the cap at the current levels.
Anyway, lot of activity could happen between now, the draft and free agency. Several big names rumored to be on the trading block.
Trevor Zegras (MTL and NYR among those named as "interested")
Martin Necas
Patrik Laine
Linus Ullmark (just traded to OTT)
Nikolaj Ehlers
Maybe Mitch Marner and more and then there is buyouts, FA, etc.
Here is the Ullmark trade FWIW:
TRADE ALERT: The #Sens have acquired G Linus Ullmark from @NHLBruins in exchange for (Boston’s original) ’24 first-round draft pick (no. 25 overall), C Mark Kastelic and G Joonas Korpisalo. As part of the transaction, the #Sens will retain 25% of Korpisalo’s remaining salary.… pic.twitter.com/0xRMxi8wZS

I think this matters. I don't know how much or if its materially in the standings. I know these guys aren't flying commercial, but as a work traveler for many years I can say air travel is exhausting.
Mostly Pacific teams bear the brunt of it.

Travel distance by team for the upcoming NHL Season. #SeaKraken

I would imagine it's a similar list every year. Seattle doesn't have many teams close buy compared to the Metro etc
Greg, I would have traded Lindgren and tried to get Chychrun before he went to WAS. Meh.
I get Dan Girardi vibes from him.
Fair.
Basically that fills out the Rangers roster.
They have 23/23 contracts.
623k in cap space.
If they make no other moves.
I get Dan Girardi vibes from him.
Hopefully we won't have to suffer from three years of declining, objectively awful play while a few morons scream about what a warrior he is as a defense for his atrocious play.

it may seem weird to say after losing game 7 of the SCF, but I kind of think in EDM they view that as under-performing.
So top heavy still.
The Hockey News
@TheHockeyNews
The Minnesota Wild made a massive investment in signing sophomore Brock Faber to an eight-year, $68-million contract, but it's all about being proactive, says Adam Proteau:
they have locked up Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, and Guhle
the latter three all 1st round picks they nailed.
If they could get rid of Gallagher and Anderson it would be better but for now those two are in the bottom 6.
Canadiens Montréal
@CanadiensMTL
The Canadiens have agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension (2025-26 to 2030-31) with defenseman Kaiden Guhle.
