NFT: Knicks Complete Bridges Trade Create More Cap Room

Chris L. : 7/4/2024 4:45 pm
Have to love Rose and company. They get below the first hard cap without dealing Deuce and pick up Bates-Diop a useful player. Can’t wait to see what is coming on the center front.
He da man!
Jim in Fairfax : 7/4/2024 6:24 pm : link

Actually they are well below the 2nd apron
Larry in Pencilvania : 7/4/2024 6:46 pm : link
And tweaking the trade kept them from being hard capped at the first apron.

They can re-sign Precious and they would have the TPMLE to sign a veteran

You're right. Dolan is Dolan, but he's stayed out of the way and spends money when they need it.

Dolan appears to have largely kept his nose out of things for the last decade or so. Trouble was, he picked Phil Jackson and then Steve Mills to run things before landing on Rose.

Given his long history of awful GM hires, I’m going to chalk it up to a blind hog finding an acorn.
It's not just Dolan
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/4/2024 8:35 pm : link
Credit Leon too. It's not a one man show. He hired some incredibly smart front office people. Brock Aller is the cap and transactions wizard.

Walt Perrin and William Wesley are sharp talent scouts.
It also shouldn't go without recognition how they made this work
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/4/2024 8:38 pm : link
It was smart and savvy. The sledgehammer would have been to trade McBride. They're ahead of the curve at the front office level and it should be respected.
it's per Katz

Phil Jackson did one great things for the Knicks. He was the one guy who actually convinced Dolan to let the basketball people run things and stay out of the process, something that appears to have stay in place since. I remember an interview with Dolan soon after hiring Phil where he basically said after talking with Jackson he realized how much of an expert on basketball he was and how he needed to step away from being involved and let the basketball people run things. Jackson had the reputation and pedigree to accomplish that.

I believe it was Ian Begely who said the Knicks had run multiple scenarios on how to make the trade work so they weren't hard capped at the 1st apron. Still amazes me how strong and smart this front office is compared to the prior 20 years
The cap people they have
Chris L. : 7/4/2024 10:21 pm : link
Are obviously very strong. When they picked up Melton I was like why would they do that??? Now I know. Always seem to be two steps ahead.
Leon looks a lot like Harvey Weinstein
ColHowPepper : 7/5/2024 9:25 am : link
no? But it seems he runs a much tighter ship than HW did. (:

+2
I wasn't sure about these guys for awhile
Dave on the UWS : 7/5/2024 12:15 pm : link
(we've been burnt for 20+ years here), but its now obvious these guys have a plan, and know what they're doing.
This team is going to be VERY competitive for the near future, and as fans, that's all you can ask for!

I am really excited to see lineups with IG at the 4, Bridges at the 3 and Divo at the 2
Are we bringing
TommyWiseau : 7/7/2024 1:31 pm : link
Precious back? Any talk about bringing in another Center via FA or trade?
Precious?
Carl in CT : 7/9/2024 7:43 am : link
A) is well liked

B) need a backup center and are exploring all options ( he is not really a center). If he goes unsigned and we can’t find one ( a player who can start at the 5 for Mich 25 games a year) then maybe.

"Smile for the cameras, Bridges. I'm gonna run you into the fuckin' ground."
Nothing too thrilling about the presser, as usual.

Seems to like OG as much as the Nova guys.
