that Holmes struck out Yoshida the pitch before the HR on the 1st night.
Whatever...just win tonight
Didn't see/hear what they said but I don't regard that pitch as anything to complain about.
Virtually the entire "dot" is below the box on the telecast. The pitch-by-pitch in the ESPN play-by-play, which I follow for every game, also has it in a spot that is usually called a ball.
Not even a 50-50 pitch, I'd say, maybe a 25-75.
I've indexed the youtube clip to the pitch. It's the 1-2.

It caught the corner. It is was well within what he had been calling and it hit the corner of the box. I thought it was a strike when it was thrown.
Yes, He cannot give up a double and a HR to pinch hitters.
RE: ANOTHER fucking base running mistake costs them a run.
Isn't even looking at Soto to the point where someone on the bench should be picking this up and have him steal third. Crawford didn't adjust anything, didn't change how long he held when he came set. Should have been an EASY steal. This team is fucking DUMB.

Agree. Anytime Kutter Crawford beats you, something is wrong. Scrub pitcher taking it to the Yanks?! lol. Coaching is everything.
Right now, I'd be inclined to play Rice and Wells every day. They did it last year with Volpe. Might as well do it with these two. Nothing to be gained by platooning.
Then again, maybe I'm overreacting. It sucks wasting a good effort by Gil.
was foolish. Some bad base running and bad luck with the wind knocking down a few well hit balls and an overall lack of punch in our lineup equals this shmeh.

Exactly.. agree.
Boone is a joke. This team being handled by 4-7 Kutter Crawford is just embarrassing! Gil is a better pitcher and should have beaten Boston! It just goes to show, coaching matters.
A natural decision point for the front office would seem to be the All Star break.... At some point doing nothing is more risky/costly than making a change. I think we're there. (Unless they rip off a quick winning streak in the next few days over the Rays and O's.)
What’s firing Boone gonna do? Hal is happy saving money and letting
3 games back and counting. Baltimore has a roster full of young talent on the upswing, the no. 1 farm system, a payroll at 1/3 of ours and new ownership that may be willing to spend.
We have a run or two this season, for sure, but it’s not just about this season.

Catching the corner is WELL within?
That "box", that you have access to, is a stationary fictional graphic, that a slightly moving umpire, often with a partially blocked view by a slightly moving catcher, doesn't have any access to. The umpire judges his own box dimensions, while assessing a 90+ mph hour baseball moving in a non-linear path.

I would have taken Gil out after the 6th so he could leave on a high
(Cashman in this instance), but they've got to do something or they risk fans/players just totally giving up and losing intensity.
The problem here is Hal is terrified to fire Cashman, and Cashman won't fire Boone because it would admit hiring him an firing Girardi was an epic mistake.

Be like his dad and give it to back to Girardi….what’s to lose at this point.

I would love to have Girardi back, but people forget that one of the things that precipitated his firing was Judge was subtly/implicitly critical of him and there were rumors at the time that he didn't like Girardi's intensity. So, I'm not sure they could bring him back without angering Judge.

If I recall, Girardi got into Gary Sanchez for his repeated lazy efforts on blocking/passed balls. Cashman had the whole "can't relate to today's player" BS as one of the reasons moved on from him. Well, looks like Girardi had plenty of good reason to be critical of Sanchez.
He's dealing tonight. Lets get him some runs.

Then clean house and get some guys who know how to play the game.

Then Gil gives up a cheap home run to fucking Devers.
Yanks need a break like that.
Good night.
WTF.
Agree. Anytime Kutter Crawford beats you, something is wrong. Scrub pitcher taking it to the Yanks?! lol. Coaching is everything.
Why do they pitch to Devers?? Stupid coached team!

Smooth move, assholes.
Boone is not a winner period. Please enough is enough.
Get someone in here to lead and kick this team in the ass when needed.
I’m done with him, same shit year after year.
Exactly.. agree.

It's moot as far as the game itself goes since they were shoutout.
more dumb baserunning, Soto this time. Was lucky not to be nailed at 2nd because he stopped halfway. Moot again, since he was stranded.
When Judge is merely human they really suck.
#1 That was the first time in Crawford's career that he threw 7 scoreless innings.
#2 The Yankees have lost 15 of 20. They've had a 5-15 stretch in each of the last three seasons after doing it in only three years from 1996-2021.
