NFT: Yanks v. Sox Game 3 Sunday Night

Mike from SI : 7/7/2024 7:18 pm
Quiet 1st inning for Gil. Good guys coming to bat.
Gil
RasputinPrime : 7/7/2024 7:20 pm : link
in the spotlight tonight
thought Cap got that one
RasputinPrime : 7/7/2024 7:22 pm : link
the heavens threw it back.
reverse that call
RasputinPrime : 7/7/2024 7:28 pm : link
he was out.
and Gil
RasputinPrime : 7/7/2024 7:29 pm : link
responds to end the inning.

He's dealing tonight. Lets get him some runs.
See, they brought up
section125 : 7/7/2024 7:31 pm : link
that Holmes struck out Yoshida the pitch before the HR on the 1st night.
Whatever...just win tonight
Gotta wonder about Ravech & Perez eyesight there
Stu11 : 7/7/2024 7:33 pm : link
He was clearly out
WTF is Judge
section125 : 7/7/2024 8:01 pm : link
looking at? Two down the middle and swings at the one high out of the zone.
Gil looks great
HBart : 7/7/2024 8:11 pm : link
I'm pretty stunned Judge's ball didn't leave the yard. He spanked it. Cabrera's was tagged too. Wind must be blowing hard in from left center.

Soto isn't looking like himself.
40 pitches.
section125 : 7/7/2024 8:13 pm : link
Crawford has thrown 40 pitches through 5 innings and these weenies are swinging at his 1st pitch almost every AB?
Yanks making it real tough on Crawford
Stu11 : 7/7/2024 8:14 pm : link
At this rate he can pitch 15 innings tonight.

Didn't see/hear what they said but I don't regard that pitch as anything to complain about.

Virtually the entire "dot" is below the box on the telecast. The pitch-by-pitch in the ESPN play-by-play, which I follow for every game, also has it in a spot that is usually called a ball.

Not even a 50-50 pitch, I'd say, maybe a 25-75.

I've indexed the youtube clip to the pitch. It's the 1-2.

ANOTHER fucking base running mistake costs them a run.
Red Dog : 7/7/2024 8:36 pm : link
Fire Levine, Cashman, and Boone.

Then clean house and get some guys who know how to play the game.

It caught the corner. It is was well within what he had been calling and it hit the corner of the box. I thought it was a strike when it was thrown.
Yes, He cannot give up a double and a HR to pinch hitters.

Then Gil gives up a cheap home run to fucking Devers.
Fucking Devers
section125 : 7/7/2024 8:42 pm : link
an oppo off the end of the bat HR. Another ball that looked like a pop up. These guys are so strong now that you cannot discount swings like that.
326 feet
HBart : 7/7/2024 8:45 pm : link
With the wind it would have been a popup.

Yanks need a break like that.
Nice at bat Aaron.
section125 : 7/7/2024 8:55 pm : link
miss an 88 mph spinner and then swing at a ball that was never in the strike zone.
14 runs yesterday.
bceagle05 : 7/7/2024 8:55 pm : link
You could see this one coming.
Crawford
Costy16 : 7/7/2024 8:55 pm : link
Isn't even looking at Soto to the point where someone on the bench should be picking this up and have him steal third. Crawford didn't adjust anything, didn't change how long he held when he came set. Should have been an EASY steal. This team is fucking DUMB.
Rafaela?
section125 : 7/7/2024 9:02 pm : link
WTF.....
Good night.
This home stand every godamn hit vs us has left the yard
Stu11 : 7/7/2024 9:04 pm : link
.
Another series loss
The_Boss : 7/7/2024 9:14 pm : link
The free fall continues…
Didnt Ravech
Costy16 : 7/7/2024 9:20 pm : link

WTF.

Agree. Anytime Kutter Crawford beats you, something is wrong. Scrub pitcher taking it to the Yanks?! lol. Coaching is everything.
Another bomb from Devers.
bceagle05 : 7/7/2024 9:24 pm : link
Team sucks.

13 pitches.
that was
RasputinPrime : 7/7/2024 9:35 pm : link
no fun at all.
This bunch
Photoguy : 7/7/2024 9:39 pm : link
may be in 3rd place in another week.

Right now, I'd be inclined to play Rice and Wells every day. They did it last year with Volpe. Might as well do it with these two. Nothing to be gained by platooning.

Then again, maybe I'm overreacting. It sucks wasting a good effort by Gil.
leave Gil out there to face Devers a third time
RasputinPrime : 7/7/2024 9:45 pm : link
was foolish. Some bad base running and bad luck with the wind knocking down a few well hit balls and an overall lack of punch in our lineup equals this shmeh.
Gossage egged at home

Gil actually pitches really well for the first time

Smooth move, assholes.
Tired Of Boone
NJLCO : 7/7/2024 10:55 pm : link
Why would you even give Devers a pitch to hit under any circumstances.

Boone is not a winner period. Please enough is enough.

Get someone in here to lead and kick this team in the ass when needed.

I’m done with him, same shit year after year.

Exactly.. agree.

Boone is a joke. This team being handled by 4-7 Kutter Crawford is just embarrassing! Gil is a better pitcher and should have beaten Boston! It just goes to show, coaching matters.
I'm out on Boone.
Mike from SI : 7/7/2024 11:04 pm : link
A natural decision point for the front office would seem to be the All Star break.... At some point doing nothing is more risky/costly than making a change. I think we're there. (Unless they rip off a quick winning streak in the next few days over the Rays and O's.)
What’s firing Boone gonna do? Hal is happy saving money and letting
Jim in Hoboken : 7/8/2024 12:14 am : link
Cashman take the blame.

3 games back and counting. Baltimore has a roster full of young talent on the upswing, the no. 1 farm system, a payroll at 1/3 of ours and new ownership that may be willing to spend.

We have a run or two this season, for sure, but it’s not just about this season.

Catching the corner is WELL within?

That "box", that you have access to, is a stationary fictional graphic, that a slightly moving umpire, often with a partially blocked view by a slightly moving catcher, doesn't have any access to. The umpire judges his own box dimensions, while assessing a 90+ mph hour baseball moving in a non-linear path.

Catching the corner is WELL within?
I would have taken Gil out after the 6th so he could leave on a high
Victor in CT : 7/8/2024 8:38 am : link
with his confidence restored. HE need that.

It's moot as far as the game itself goes since they were shoutout.

more dumb baserunning, Soto this time. Was lucky not to be nailed at 2nd because he stopped halfway. Moot again, since he was stranded.

When Judge is merely human they really suck.
No fun watching these games right now
arniefez : 7/8/2024 9:24 am : link
Two things I heard last night summed up the last few years.

#1 That was the first time in Crawford's career that he threw 7 scoreless innings.

#2 The Yankees have lost 15 of 20. They've had a 5-15 stretch in each of the last three seasons after doing it in only three years from 1996-2021.
No sure firing Boone will change anything, the fish rots from the head
LW_Giants : 7/8/2024 9:47 am : link
(Cashman in this instance), but they've got to do something or they risk fans/players just totally giving up and losing intensity.

The problem here is Hal is terrified to fire Cashman, and Cashman won't fire Boone because it would admit hiring him an firing Girardi was an epic mistake.

Be like his dad and give it to back to Girardi….what’s to lose at this point.

I would love to have Girardi back, but people forget that one of the things that precipitated his firing was Judge was subtly/implicitly critical of him and there were rumors at the time that he didn't like Girardi's intensity. So, I'm not sure they could bring him back without angering Judge.

If I recall, Girardi got into Gary Sanchez for his repeated lazy efforts on blocking/passed balls. Cashman had the whole "can't relate to today's player" BS as one of the reasons moved on from him. Well, looks like Girardi had plenty of good reason to be critical of Sanchez.
