I'm confused: who is/are the emperor(s)? Shouldn't it be Lucius? His mother is right there in the film.
She sends him off to Africa after the original and the story picks up 20 years later when he’s an adult with a family, and no real ties to royalty anymore. Then Northern Africa is invaded and he’s pushed into slavery where he becomes a gladiator.
actually read about the script for the originally planned sequel that they were trying to make years ago with Russell Crowe?
Yes, Maximus resurrected through the ages to fight in various wars as some sort of ultimate warrior.
It sounds absolutely unhinged but I'd rather see that than Gladiator Part II, which is essentially Gladiator Part 1, but they're hoping no one notices cuz Denzel flooded the Colliseum.
I don’t like it either but it must be Ridley’s thing since he also did it for American Gangster, don’t think it’s for the marvel crowd.

but i could do without the modern music. struck me as out of place and pandering to the marvel crowd. Hopefully it will only be used during credits.

The original Gladiator had a trailer utilizing "bawitdaba" from known high-brow artist kid rock.
Yes, same character. He’s been sent out to Northern Africa and has grown up there and that’s where the movie starts, I believe.
+1
Agreed! Totally out of place for this.
