Here we go again with another series thread. The Mets are back home for the first game of what will be a 6-game homestand before the four-day All-Star Break (July 15th to the 18th). The Mets finished their road trip to D.C. & the ‘Burgh with a record of 4-4 & are going to try and make hey these next 6 home games against the Nats and Rockies. The Mets are 5-2 against the Nationals so far this season, with 6 more games to go against them overall (including this 3-game series). All 6 of the remaining games against the Nats will be at Citi Field (the first 7 were played in D.C.). The last series with the Nats will take place during the stretch-run in mid-September. A series win here is much needed. Enjoy 😊!

Stearns says Mets have been talking to the Rays, and number of teams about bullpen help for weeks now.
They targeted Maton in the offseason. He has a 1.08 ERA in his last 8.1 innings and Stearns is confident the adjustments Maton has made recently can help the Mets’ bullpen

Wow, that's frightening.
On the plus side, if the BP is good every other month, in August the should be good again?

Lindor's 3.1 fWAR in that span is the 4th-highest among all position players.
I want to see how this team will match up with the teams projected to be in the playoffs before the ASB.
Not the marlins, Rockies, or a soft Yankees team.
I'm still unsure what to do at DL.

Braves and Minny that deadline week.
Schedule seems soft in August as well then gets difficult again in September.
Houser has been excellent as a reliever. in 30 innings he has a 2.4 era and a 3.6 fip. no way would i swap him for lucchesi.

I am fine with some ancillary type moves like Maton and just staying the course and see what happens. I think it's a reasonable position to both not want to sell as they have a realistic shot at the postseason, and not want to give up a bunch of valuable prospects to go "all-in."
Diaz is back. Senga will be back soon.

Lucchesi's just better and is a lefty. To me, this is Stearns valuing one of "his guys" over a holdover from the previous regime. Both of these guys are 31 and are gonna be free agents after the year. Houser shouldn't be asked back. Should've brought Lucchesi up instead of DFAing him. They could've at least used him in this quagmire of a bullpen.

I don't trust Houser.
No time soon. Hasn't begun throwing.

in the trevor williams multi-inning role he's fine. that role tends to only pitch in blow-outs and can saving innings from the rest of the group.
That sucks.

little odd they haven't given a guy like Hamel a look out of the pen in Syracuse. As is, he's not helping the big club in any role any time soon, why not see if they can catch lightning in a bottle with him? He was always seen to have significant RP risk as is.

25 years old, rule 5 eligible, I mean if he can't succeed out of the bullpen then he's not a big leaguer. That's not to say he'd save the day but what's the downside? He's made 66 pro starts, they could always move him back if they were so inclined.
it is the beltran thing repeating, except somehow even more egregious. if he can stay healthy for just 3 more prime seasons exactly at his met averages, he will end up the 2nd most productive met ever - not counting any of his cleveland numbers.
notice he's played like half as many games as a met as many of the names he's about to pass on this list:
