I've not heard anyone discuss him as an option. He obviously had a good relationship with Pulisic and has a reputation of being a good manager especially with younger players. He's also learning English. I don't follow Serie A as much as other's so would love their opinions.

Berhalter should never have been rehired and the USMNT needs to get this next decision right. Two years in international soccer is not long. Perhaps an opportunity for 10-12 matches before the World Cup, counting the Gold Cup.
Hopefully they pick a manager who is not locked into a particular style of play that does not fit the talent on the USMNT roster. It should be clear by now that square pegs won't fit into round holes and the US needs an honest look at the talent and then find a manager who is creative enough to adapt the system to the talent.
Also should have an emphasis on using players who are actually getting playing time. It should be apparent that being on the roster of a "mega-club" is not a substitute for PT.

CBSSports has him on their candidate list. I like him, and Pulisic performed well under him. Current free agent.
He will improve every single person on the squad, probably win nothing, get fired, but make every single person associated with the squad on the field and off better than before he arrived.

I agree that he'd be a good choice, and unlike Klopp it doesn't seem impossible that we could get him.

I posted on this on one of the other soccer threads, but I just don't think the USA is playing with the necessary intensity. The comfort level has to go down. I don't see anyone in the USSF-MLS old boys network who isn't just more of the same. Well, maybe Marsch, but they f'd that up....
Players develop at their clubs, not their national teams. That's where they spend most of their time. The goal of the national team manager has to be to pick the squad, maximize its performance in the short chunks of time they're together and focus more on things like accountability, etc.

Well, let's all hope the USSF takes his interest seriously and makes it happen. He has completely Spain's style, melding their traditional possession style while opening it up on the wings.
Obviously the US would not have the technical skills of the Spanish team but if he can get them to level up there and focus on their physical attributes, he can make some noise.
This coach completely overhauled the Spanish style of play, bringing in youth and providing for a faster paced game featuring more of attack-minded approach. It is entertaining to watch but it does require a certain type of player. Central Defenders and a holding midfielder are critical as the outside backs and the wings often push far upfield into the attack. This leaves the defense vulnerable to the counter. Not certain the USMNT roster has players now who would be able to assume these critical defensive positions. Seems that Tyler Adams would be a good fit and the system would certainly benefit a player like Dest on the outside.
That he will delay his decision to stay at Man City until the winter. Pipe dream but always has been more realistic than Klopp given Pep has actually lived here.
