and I thought Barkley came off like an ass. Did that conversation (between Schoen and Barkley) sound like a guy who wanted to be in the ring of honor or a lifetime Giant? Not from what I heard. I heard a number he wanted to be at and that's what was most important. And that's his prerogative. He's not a building block for the team anymore. Have a nice life.

I'm very curious about that. I watched both episodes tonight and I thought Rome came off better in what was shown.

I loved hearing about how Coughlin scolded Eisen about taking a pic of him with his BlackBerry years ago.

He may be a bit hokey but, Eisen is one of the best.

Better than what? Rome was certainly more polished in his dictation. He did impress me there. Just goes with the differences in their personalities. One is a "dawg" the other just a more reserved personality. They both will do very well in the NFL.

Maybe Joe Schoen was sold on Malik Nabers from the get-go... dunno. Was just wondering if Brandon Brown's comments influenced Joe Schoen's final decision.

The clips they showed of him around his teammates and his answers in the interview. Even the Schoen was surprised how Nabers came off in the interview.

That's just it though. He didn't come off as reserved and Schoen was surprised how Nabers came off based on the fact that he was a "dawg" in his games.

That pushed Nabers. He loved that Nabers has a personality similar to his own.

Wonder if that'll still be true in 3 months when MN is struggling to control himself at 1-6.

I do think Nabers is more explosive but this team needs a leader and Odunze looks like a 15 year Larry Fitz type of WR. Time will tell. Silver lining is Mara couldn't have meddled in this pick

This 100%. I honestly love the interaction between the two. This has shades of Simms and Parcells. Daboll gets that football is emotional. You don't need a whole team of emotional players but you need some. They bring energy that the team feeds off of. He wants losing to hurt. He wants guys that are going to work their ass off and lead. You can tell why they targeted certain personalities. And it is crazy with these 3 top WR. Any other year, we'd easily take Rome. But you can tell Daboll wanted that grit.

And Daniel Jones.

This team badly needs an alpha #1 WR that can take over games. That’s Nabers.

Sticking to a comment I made in the HD EP2 reaction thread yesterday. You had 3 WRs with very close grades, truth be told we should have been happy with any of the 3. What likely was the difference between Nabers and Odunze was that there is a role in Daboll's offense begging for Naber's exact skill set where he would have had to create something new for Odunze.

Watch what Daboll did with Stefon Diggs, now insert a significantly more explosive version of Stefon into that role and think about the possibilities.

It was likely Daboll who made the Nabers/Odunze call, which again, I don't think there is a wrong answer too.

I think there was residual bad blood on both sides from the previous negotiations. I also believe that Saquon was paying lip service to the idea of being a NYG for life. I think he wanted out (and I can’t really blame him), and Schoen opened the door for him.

I say this as someone who loved Odunze in the draft, but eff the leadership shit, this team needs talent, especially at WR. The leadership stuff will sort itself out, and if it doesn’t, that’s on Daboll.

That’s where I’m at as well. I think all 3 are going to be outstanding pros, but Daboll had to be salivating at Nabers’ skill set. I think he could have made very good use of Odunze, but Nabers already fit perfectly.

And mentioning Diggs is interesting. I wonder how much of his dissatisfaction in Buff was due to no longer being asked to do the thing Dabs let him do?

Not for nothing, but Odunzie is not a reserved personality. He's just more well spoken. They are both dogs tho.

This is how I felt as well. I'm nervous about how Malik may respond if things aren't going well. Odunze looked like the consummate team leader. It actually surprises me that with all the talk of character and make up and team fit etc. they choose Nabers over Odunze.

Why are so many fans so obsessed with players who will be good soldiers when things are going poorly? Comfort in losing equals complacency, and being well-behaved is not the same as character.

Why wouldn't you want at least SOME players who will ruffle some feathers when those feathers have been mired in mediocrity for more than a decade?
