In a largely unprecedented financial concession to give roster flexibility to a contender, New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson has agreed on a four-year, $156.5 million extension, his agent Sam Rose of CAA tells ESPN --- $113M less guaranteed than he’s eligible to receive in one…
Locks him up with generational wealth and increases his chances at immortality in NY...
Nice job ajr. We all appreciate what you bring.
And you too! Thank you!
Really? lol, what did he say?
I can’t believe this.

Making less money than Scottie Barnes is crazy.
GODblesshim though.
He’ll make the money back on his next deal. It works out the same

Of course, Michael Kay is criticizing him 😂😂😂

“He’s being taken advantage of.”
Who are the Knicks getting with all this flexibility?!?!”
The reality is, this deal is still more money than he will ever need in a lifetime. It also protects him long term from the potential of getting injured this season. This was floated out there about a month ago. Then when OG re-signed, it was questionable whether this would be the move because of Hartenstein. With Hartenstein off the table, the extension now came back into play.
Good for him and the Knicks.

Maybe. Maybe not.
It’s great for the Knicks. It’s crazy for him.

Taken advantage of? Maybe I missed the part where Leon Rose held a gun to Jalen Brunson's head and told him to sign. Kay is a joke.
And 156.5M to play with three of his closest buddies in the greatest city in the world. We should all be so taken advantaged of...
And note this:
Brunson is both getting security now and setting himself up to make more money, ultimately, than he would on next year's deal.
Don't cry for him, Argentina. Or Michael Kay.

Indeed. No second apron!
Daniel Jones - John Mara
Being taken advantage of would be to keep playing him on that 4 year 100m deal. Neither side had to do anything with his contract today.

His extensions doesnt really effect this year it effects future years they have plenty of room to sign Precious and Mccullar..
His extension effects if they want to acquire a player like KAT
You did. Thanks man! Appreciate the inside scoop!
Extension doesn't kick in until next year. Doesn't really affect anything happening today. All the maneuvering with the Bridges trade was to stay flexible in this offseason.

Scotto: "Knicks have explored adding more shooting depth…expressing interest in Davis Bertans…& Landry Shamet, league sources told HoopsHype…NY also remains intent on adding frontcourt depth…Precious Achiuwa…remains open to a return to Knicks"
No. This has nothing to do with either of those two situations at all.

With Jalen Brunson’s record-setting bargain extension complete, the strong expectation is Mikal Bridges will also take a discount on his upcoming new long-term deal with the Knicks.
The Villanova duo will be setting up New York to be championship contenders for years to come.

Mikal Bridges will also become eligible to extend for four years, $156 million starting next summer.
If he accepts, it would be another significant sub-max contract that could help further extend the Knicks window into the end of the decade.
by taking less
- no second apron
- more resources available in trades/FA
- Ability to keep own players
Could be part of a bigger deal to come. Watch this video below for the 411 (start watching at the 15:34 mark that I've got linked for you below):

So any guess why we haven't signed Precious and McCullar?

Saw that cast. Jeremy Cohen made an interesting point later on talking about a possible Randle extension. With the guys like Brunson & Bridges the lower extensions are very important for 2nd apron because we expect them to be here for at least 3 or 4 years. With Randle it's not as important, and in fact it might benefit us more to pay him more because if we want to trade him for a star we probably need the salary to be higher to match up the money.
Something brewing?
Something brewing?
If I recall correctly, he dropped in the draft due to injury issues. Polly has something to do with that I'd wager. He could be part of a trade down the line this summer too, so there's always that possibility as well.
