NFT: Best Home Security Cameras from Ring or Blink?

NYG27 : 7/16/2024 3:40 pm
I'm looking to setup wired video doorbell and a couple of outdoor security cameras. I'd also would like the option to record the videos.

I was looking at different options from Ring and Blink on Amazon and wanted to get opinions on from people who are using them.

I'd also would be open to a different company/brand that might have a better product.
We use Wyze and just started swapping out to Roku

Roku's camera products are identical to Wyze and work seamlessly within the Roku streaming platform so it's really simple to pull up the exterior cameras while watching TV (in addition to the same mobile alerts you'd get with Ring/Blink/Wyze).

From my experience, they're all pretty much the same. I'd probably go with whichever one has the best Prime Day deal today/tomorrow.
I've been using Wyze

May need to check out the Roku if you can watch them on the streaming sticks, although all the Wyze stuff does work with Alexa.
Most are pretty similar

IMO, I had Ring, canceled because I got pissed at them because someone's dog shit on my yard and they left it and the Ring didn't even pick it up or it triggered but gave me some bullshit error about not processing video.

then I got Blink, same shit (pun intended) and one other (Argos) - all had the same issues pretty much sporadically wouldn't record video.

turns out where the camera/spotlight is needs to be really close to your router other other cell/wifi source and mine was 3000 feet away through a garage with cement walls.

So I got a wi-fi extender and re-bought the latest Ring spotlight cam and it works great. I suspect they all do.
oh

also had the Ring Doorbell - that works great. Never had issues with that because it's very close to my router.

Biggest complaint I had is it was too sensitive. but you can tweak those settings.
Arlo is worth a look . . .

wireless 2k cameras and wired doorbell . . . i'm happy with it.. Recharging camera batteries once a quarter or so, records to cloud and saves for 30 days $9.99/month
I Have The Ring Doorbell

a Ring wired outdoor camera / light, Ring wireless outdoor cameras and wireless indoor cameras. All work well.

My wife, not very tech savvy, can deal with the cameras as a user / viewer (i.e. not as far as set up goes).
I have two Ring

doorbells and a camera. No problems. Easy to program.
Blink just replaced my Blink 1 camera with Blink 2 model.

I was happy with Blink 1 model but the batteries leaked. Camera battery compartment has been redesigned in Blink 2 model.

Isn’t Blink and Ring both owned by Amazon?
I have ring and Arlo at one house and two blink doorbells

On the other. I prefer the ring but I'm trying to figure out why.

I only use the arlos at night or when we're away. Saves the batteries and the rings cover most of what I need to see
What the hell is it with people that let their dog shit

In somebody’s yard other than their own? Make sure the dogs shit is done before you bring the dog down the sidewalk. I saw a dog taking a crap in my neighbors yard. The women did not even bend to pick it. Then she heard from me. That was a lot of fun.
