Isaiah Simmons playing "money", explained ....

For good reason, all the excitement on defense is about Brian Burns; it's like picking up an additional #1 pick. But, if Bowen can awaken in Simmons what he was at Clemson, it would have an earth-shaking positive effect on the defense.

He is certainly an enigma!

Bigger and Faster than Micah Parsons!

But Parsons is an animal...an absolute beast.

Certainly a ton of "if only"!
The only problem

With Simmons is his aversion to contact, which is why he tries to run around blockers. You will never be a good LB is you refuse to take on blockers. The comparisons to Parsons are silly. He is a safety in a LBer's body.
Hope he figures it out

But I just haven’t seen a football player in him. It’s more than just size, speed and measurables. It’s having that “dog” as they say. We can hope.
well

If it were about measurables and brains, Christian Ponder would have been the next Peyton Manning.

And his tackling has been atrocious too.
Simmons has never come close to showing

he was worthy of a top 10 pick, yet people still expect him to be a star. Yes, he’s a physical marvel, 240 lbs and runs a 4.4, but it’s his motor. I remember watching the CFBCG, when Burrow escaped the pocket and ran down the sideline, and Simmons jogged after him. THIS WAS A FUCKING CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! Can he help in spots? Sure, but between taking plays off and an aversion to contact, expecting a 3-down player is lunacy.

Again, likely because he doesn't like contact. Would rather arm tackle.

This is how I feel too. I'm not optimistic at all, but sure, we can hope.

I agree 100%. He looks great in shorts with no contact. Some people love the contact, and others don't. Its clear Simmons wants an angle and wants to arm tackle, he just doesn't like getting hit. I recognize this because thats how I was playing football. I was always trying to come from the side so no one would see me. I resisted the big hits at all cost.
Hate to sound snarky

But Im willing to bet this article, "scheme hopes to unleash Simmons" has been written every offseason of his career.

Including when he blitzes. On a number of plays when blitzing for both AZ and NY, Simmons gets to the QB in plenty of time, but fails to wrap him up for the sack.

To put a number on it...

Simmons has just 8.5 sacks in 4 years, including only 1 last year with NY.
Simmons

He is what he is going to be - an incredible athlete that is merely OK at playing football. Expecting anything else leads to being let down
Very limited in how to use him

Thus…..Not worth much.
not buying the Simmons hype. he is what he is. a good athlete
Victor in CT : 7/17/2024 12:30 pm : link
who is not good football player.
My primary motivation for this post ....
Manny in CA : 7/17/2024 6:22 pm : link

Is not to hype Simmons (his natural abilities do that), but rather to have someone explain the intricacies of the "money" role. I, for one, have not found a better explanation.

It is also interesting to see how in this scheme (with a four man line), if both Burns and Thibodeaux could conceivably be on the L.O.S., as edges (instead of assigning Thibodeaux a linebacker role, as has has been conjectured by several analysts).

My greatest hope for Simmons is that Andre' Patterson take him under his wing and teach him about the beauty and effectiveness of the form tackle.

He getting paid peanuts
LauderdaleMatty : 7/18/2024 4:39 pm : link
Which shows you that the Giants like some of his attributes but are hardly of the mind he's proven much and are paying him like he's what he is. A meh journeyman type at best.
