ty for posting - could not agree more with pelissero
Eric on Li : 7/17/2024 6:37 pm : link
this is the best non-game content from any sports team ive ever seen. i cannot relate to the complaints. i dont think people realize how much they are learning about how this all actually works that they didnt understand prior. nyg deserve praise for doing this and embracing something that hadnt been done before.
Thus far...

HK has exceeded my expectations.

While some stuff many be quasi-staged/edited a certain way, I'm surprised how raw some of the content is...

This is our empty calories indulgence for any of us who are interested in how a team is made. Anyone who isn't enjoying the heck out of the show is nuts.
Off Season Hard Knocks is 10x better than training camp
The Dude : 7/17/2024 8:29 pm : link
spare me highlights that I read on BBI & twitter daily and the 90th player fighting for a roster spot story...... Off season has been outstanding. Keeping in mind its edited of course.

Probably wouldn't watch if it were another team, however, I know I would find the clips from it interesting.

Yeah, I agree it's 10x better, but I do think the offseason would interest me with any team. It just happens to be the Giants, and I'm completely dialed in, but the process is fascinating to watch. Like Pelissero said, feels like your fantasy draft.
I love it
GiantsFan84 : 7/17/2024 8:58 pm : link
And it gives us giants material to digest during the slowest time of the year for the NFL
The show is great.
St. Jimmy : 7/17/2024 10:19 pm : link
I don't really see much being given away that could hurt the team down the road. The list of defensive positions valued is pretty well known. The Giants are looking to upgrade QB, anyone should know that. Maybe Daboll interviewing the QBs but I would think they are showing pretty standard interview questions there. I'm sure there was a lot to the interviews not aired.

Enjoying it

I’ve never watched any HK for longer than 5 min before turning it off. The offseason model is great. The fact it is nyg can only help in terms of my interest but I think I’d be into watching any team do this.

This is one of the more sane take's I've seen
UberAlias : 7/18/2024 8:34 am : link
So many of the take's I've seen on social media are just lacking in common sense.
just started watching this last night
bigbluehoya : 7/18/2024 8:40 am : link
with my almost-10-year-old.

I thought it might be over his head and/or fail to keep his attention.

We made it through ~1.5 episodes before it was his bedtime.

To my surprise, he was locked in and said "this is really good. Don't watch more without me."

No complaints here. I'm sure things could always be better or different/additional topics included, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Hours of high production quality content about my favorite team isn't easy to come by.
is it possible
The Jake : 7/18/2024 9:39 am : link
to be entertained by and appreciative of the level of access to our favorite team, while at the same time, being absolutely horrified by how the team is run and decisions are made?

I'm basically hate-watching the show, at this point.

What is your issue with how decisions were made this past off season?

What would be really cool would be
Metnut : 7/18/2024 9:47 am : link
another version maybe 5-7 years from now that is able to show a lot of the stuff edited out (since it would presumably be a lot less sensitive then).

Even the edited stuff is really interesting, but it's just left me hungry for more!

I hate to say it but I tend to agree with this. Daboll impressed me in the 2nd episode but that's about it.

I feel like there are more meaningful, thoughtful and in-depth conversations on BBI than there are in Schoen's office.

Now granted it's a TV show so it could all be complete BS. I actually hope it is.

they are showing a very dumbed down version of everything. i dont think we've heard a single stat or analytic cited other than burns sack total. i think that's a combination of team preference to not show their actual decision making emphasis and HBO knowing most casual fans would be bored by that.

Yeah, my only hope is it's dumbed down for TV.

But the whole operation feels rudimentary and unserious.

Almost surely the Giants didn’t want their in-depth discussions about players to be shown. What analytics they use, what metrics they focus on, what stats they think indicate consistent future production… If they let that out the whole league would know how they rank players and every team would be able to predict who the Giants make offers to or who’ll they’ll draft.

Also, the Giants surely don’t want their negative reviews of players to get out, because they don’t want to burn bridges or piss off agents.

I think a lot of the conversations, particularly in episode 3 were we staged versions of prior conversations.
we also havent seen them discuss any of their own FA they brought back
Eric on Li : 7/18/2024 11:17 am : link
or any of the TEs they signed,
or waller,
or guys like jordan phillips/jalen mills.

they (HK) clearly fixed the storyline on the top handful of FA the giants were going after, which the giants were likely ok with because there's very little harm in that. they signed 3/5 guys they were focused on and 1 of the ones they didnt was tyrod taylor.

the only unknown FA information that got is they liked robert hunt, which was obviously common enough knowledge since he got $100m.

Quality response.

christian : 7/18/2024 12:41 pm : link
Most of the communication has been platitudes and silly throw away lines. You could basically hear the director yell "action" when Daboll pulled out his phone and listed off the Tennessee defensive rankings.

But what's hard to fake is the dynamics between the principals, and who is at least in the room for the surface level conversations.

The two pale blonde guys seem out of place among the pros. That's my biggest observation.

I'm guessing you were disappointed when a group in Schaboll's office were talking traditional sacks and how many Burns has averaged per year...?

;)

Quite disappointed. Definitely not a difference maker.
I enjoy the show

I am excited to see the next episode regarding Nubin. They light up when talking about him. Bowens reactions to Nubin and Burns get me excited for the D. I think Bowen is an upgrade over Wink and I loved Wink before he got here.

bc4life : 7/18/2024 8:37 pm : link
you are gaining information about how they are going about it (as much as they will allow us to hear at least).

This Schoen and Dabolls 3 year - if you can't see the difference in the talent level of this team - don't what to tell you.
