NFT: RIP Pat Williams

many of you may not know of Pat, and a month or so ago I did not know who he was. Pat Williams was a long time NBA executive who was responsible for bringing an NBA franchise to Orlando. He was the GM who drafted Shaq, Anfernee Hardaway and Dwight Howard. he also wrote 100 books on leadership.

I had the pleasure of meeting Pat last month. He spoke at my firm's offsite and of course his topic was leadership. He spoke for one hour, no notes, and spoke vibrantly. I am shocked and saddened to learn of his passing.

Sad. I thought that Orlando team was going to own the 90s, even after the 95 Finals. But then Shaq left the following summer and it was over. Also, MJ was in the league + his homicidal like competitiveness going to an 11 after seeing Grant get carried off the United Center after Game 6 of the ‘95 Eastern Conference semifinals…

The stars didn’t align.

he also made the Dr. J deal with the Nets when he ran the 76ers

if I remember correctly, said he was the "Babe Ruth of basketball".
