NYG has the 6th most expensive offense in 2024

Sean : 7/18/2024 11:15 am
I know this is greatly impacted by Jones. However, it's tough to accept the message that the team isn't close when this amount of money is being spent. A huge investment was also made on the defensive side with Brian Burns.

How do these actions compute with a top 5 draft pick? If that is the result, doesn't there need to be accountability?

That ranked where in 2023?

ive said this before but cap hits are an inaccurate measure of this
Eric on Li : 7/18/2024 11:21 am : link
AAV is the better way to look at this. this is combined offense/defense but if you want to do math you can add up the position units separately and it will give you a more accurate measure.

by combined AAV:

2023 = 19th, but with the 6th most injured
2022 = 28th, but with the 9th least injured

I agree with Eric from LI on this one
SteelGiant : 7/18/2024 12:44 pm : link
The Eagles go from 20 on the first version to 1. 1 is correct.

For Example
Jalen Hurts = cap hit of 13 mil this year, but has a void year in 2029 with a cap hit of 97.5 Million
I should add that is Avg salary is 51 Mil a year
SteelGiant : 7/18/2024 12:47 pm : link
so the original list is just not a correct way of looking at it
This is like one data point

extracted from what should be a complete analysis.

Almost meaningless.
Most of what you get from Sharp
GiantAmongMen : 7/18/2024 1:05 pm : link
is meaningless, IMO
the QB here is 2 years from no money
djm : 7/18/2024 3:26 pm : link
one year from cuttable and half money saved. I wouldn't call this offense all in spending huge money but it's not exactly cheap either. The OL needs to win the day this season or else. The OL is getting paid. Thomas is long term big money. JMS and Neal hope to be. Runyan and the other FA are making decent to good money. The unit needs to hold this offense together.
not to pick apart this OP

Holding people accountable? Just hire the right people. If the right HC is here 1-2 bad years shouldn't change that. 1-2 bad years doesn't necessarily mean they can't coach or GM. Look for progress. Is the roster improving. Is the team getting closer even if it's not linear growth.

McAdoo was fired after 3 bad months. Parcells wasn't fired after one entirely bad season. Dick Vermeil got suffered 2 bad seasons before 1999 if memory serves. Campbell in DET didn't win right away before year 3.

Not to say I am convinced about Daboll yet but ownership needs to be careful with firing guys every time something goes south here. That approach can makes things worse.
How many ways?
HBart : 7/18/2024 4:08 pm : link
Can you criticize the same thing, and/or same guys for it. The offense underperformed. Pick any measure you like.
The money spent
darren in pdx : 7/18/2024 4:38 pm : link
is because of bad drafting, not an indicator of how good the team is or how good it thinks it is or isn't. Do the Eagles think they're worse than the Giants because they spent less money than the Giants on offense?
This tells you nothing
mfjmfj : 7/18/2024 5:40 pm : link
about how expensive a team's offense is and only how they have structured their cap. Giants are conservative in their cap structuring. The Eagles have by far the most expensive offense in football - top 5 QB, RB, Tackle, Receiver, TE. They just have pushed all the money forward. I have no idea how expensive the Giants offense is, but it can't be close to the top. Our QB is something like 10 and that drives most of it. We have one player on a "max" contract on offense and that is AT. Everyone else is pretty much rookie or mid range deal.
So much pearl clutching around this
Paulie Walnuts : 7/19/2024 12:45 am : link
Let's play the games if the OL is just decent and we stay reasonably healthy we will score points
. If Jones sucks we go to Lock and Schoen gets a QB in 2025
They didn't treat it like a win now offseason, they were very careful
Blue Baas : 7/19/2024 1:25 am : link
with the cap. Look at the Eagles in comparison, they are punting the can down the road.

Jones $48M, AT $23M, Slayton $8M - $79M

Hurts $13M, Mailata $16M, Brown $12M - $41M
Money aside...
bw in dc : 7/19/2024 3:44 pm : link
The bigger piece to me is Schoen has modernized and made major investments in the offense for 2024.

We have a $40M QB in his 6th season, an All-Pro caliber LT, a veteran/competent RB, a lottery pick WR, other young WR prospects with promise, and a revamped OL with quality experience.

Now it's time for the players to execute. Because I am confident Daboll will put the players in position to succeed.
