NFT: NYP Article on Boone

Mike Vaccaro wrote that Boone is on a slippery slope starting this second half + 2024 season. Boone’s team wins tonight and he’s at a 600 win percentage, which is impressive. So question becomes why can’t he get his team to play their best in post season and how of late do they just fall apart for long stretches of time?
My opinion has always been he manages with a soft stick which works when you’re playing well but doesn’t know how to turn it up a notch when times are tough in order to get out of long skids sooner. He’s a get along kind of guy and a players manager. My example is Torres, how many times and seasons has this guy just find a way to just look like he doesn’t give a damn about his play on the field be it no hustle or just looking lazy in everything he does. Each time he sits a game or two and it doesn’t take long and he’s back to being Torres. Boone hasn’t been able to do anything to get his attention.
Torres is just one example. I want these Yankees to win another championship just as much as everyone else but I don’t believe after all these years Boone is the guy who will make it happen.

I said the Yankees would never win anything with him running the team on the field.

So far I've been correct.
I think bouncing out of slumps

is as much on the players as it is on Booney. Not to be an apologist, but the slumps often happen in times where key guys are out due to injury (love him or hate him, Stanton is a big piece in this lineup) and you don't see Judge and Soto having a hard time busting out of slumps. It's typically the same guys. Torres is not a winner.

that's the number of runs the Yankees have scored this year. The most of any team in MLB. An that's with the slump.

You're in the middle of a run for the best team in the AL! lol

I really don't understand you guys, haven't had a losing season since 1992 but yet wants constant change because you can't endure injuries or slumps.

Doubt either are let go anytime soon.

But how many titles? The HR derby approach can work well as long as your big bangers are hitting, but doesn't work so well when facing deep pitching staffs, pitchers who actually know how to pitch, and teams need to manufacture runs. A lost art anymore.

You shouldn’t have a losing season when there’s no salary cap or floor and you spend top 3 money every year. This is not an accomplishment. A money spinning a wheel could make the playoffs with an uneven playing field and that’s basically what Trashman is with analytics.
