It blows my mind Barkley is dominating the conversation when the OL has been the problem for over a decade and we once again don't even have 5 decent OL let alone depth.
If the OL isn't the weakest unit on the team CB should get golden handcuffs

People call Neal injury prone but want Phillips. He's been hurt each of his four years.
It's not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Neal was picked 7th in the draft and Phillips would be signed as last resort depth at close to the league min on a 1 year deal.
was so bad last year that fans are pining for below average.
Absolutely true. Not a knock on Phillips but it would be interesting to see how he rated v. the league and not just comparison to other OL on the Giants. I read criticisms of Jones, Barkley, the WRs and the entire offense in general but unless and until the team gets at least a competent OL it is really impossible to be comfortable in evaluating any of the skill position players.
RT is our starting LG. If he gets hurt, it is probably Nelson.
I wouldn't be so sure of Eluemunor moving to RT. He realllllly wants to stay at guard. He thinks it's his best position. I don't know if Nelson is better than Phillips.
That works in the draft process. I've posted other things in here like the Giants not wanting McCarthy, trying to trade up for a QB and wanting a WR if that fell through.
I'm a 44 year old man. I'm not trolling for internet points. I get told things once in a blue moon and he's never steered me wrong.
Also Carmen Bricillo wasn't impressed with Bobby Johnson at all. He didn't understand why the Giants lineman left so much space between them. I don't know OL play at all so make of it as u will

He’s easily better than the bum drafted 7th overall. Don’t be ridiculous.
I'm not being ridiculous. The NFL is devoid of good OLs. Phillips was cut by the Giants (a mistake) but he still wasn't on a 53-man roster last year until the Giants re-signed him.
There a huge chunk of Giants fans - not on BBI but out there - who think Pugh should have been re-signed.
These the same people who hated Felciano and Zeitler I assume. BBI as well hated those guy and were all over Thomas asa bust. No idea wtf this team has been doing for the last 10 years but it’s one the biggest reasons along w QB the team has been crappy those same 10 years
They made their investments in the Oline in the offseason
It was their #1 priority. They also brought in a new Oline coach. If they can't put together a salvageable line at this point, we have serious problems, and the FO looks extremely suspect.

He would just be a backup and cost the minimum. With Neal and Matt Nelson yet to practice it is worth keeping tabs on the free agent market for more depth. They knew all about Nelson's injury, that's why he only got a $75K guarantee, but they can't control how/when he recovers.
Phillips isn't going to make the OL better. If he is needed, it is
The least bad player is the best option when we don’t have a good one, especially on the cheap.
We can’t start players that have the ability to wreck the offense. Neal and JMS or their replacements have to play above that threshold. Phillips is a liability but wasn’t a game wrecker - a low bar, but an important one especially for a swing tackle.
I’d say he deserves a shot - The 90th man on the roster won’t help the team nearly as much as Tyre could and knowledge of the offenses verbiage is also important (even Runyon said learning that’s been a struggle)

Your memory of Phillips is way off. He didn't play that well. The Giants signed two other veterans in free agency who are better at the position.
(first game review I opened... Saints game from Sy'56):
"Tyre Phillips was solid for most of the game but started to fall apart in the second half, mainly in the fourth quarter. He allowed two separate half-sacks and a pressure, in addition to finishing with a below average grade as a run blocker."

Even if Neal doesn't pan out you literally can't make a decision on him as he played hurt both his years.
And on a broken ankle it seems. Appreciate your info though. He may prove to be right. We will see as always. Thanks
The fact that some see Tyre as some kind of answer
Shows just how bad things have been. Already this offseason, the team has added Runyan to a 3 yr deal, Eluemunor a 2 yr deal, Stinnie a one year deal, Schlottmann a 2 yr deal, and also added Jake Kubas and Marcellus Johnson as UDFAs. So maybe as a camp body, but let's not get any hopes on Tyre being any kind of way out of this mess.

’Way off’ seems harsh - I called him a liability but still think he could be the best option beyond Eluemunor, if healthy.
I just don’t see it with Neal at T.
Going strictly by pff Nelson and Tyre look very similar but Tyre has experience in our O and was graded while playing on a dysfunctional O while Nelson was in a great situation. Seems like Tyre is the safer option.
Hopefully Ezeudu develops but I’m not betting the season on it.
Eluemunor (really annoying that we have 2 JEs at T) is the only guy that has shown to be better than Tyre but he may at G. Even so Tyre could be the best backup option. I’d have no problem with him being on the team.

Amazing story - gets cut by the Giants, goes to Philly, "finds" himself then comes home and becomes solid for the Giants .....
Then the injury, all the best to you, Tyre, where-ever you end-up.

The Pugh love/admiration was bizarre. His performance vs. NOLA was one of the worst games I've ever seen a lineman have.
Honest question. Who's our backup RT and are they better than Phillips?
And both have started in this league.

So if Neal is a bum, that makes him below average. Phillips was marginally better. So yeah pinning for below average.

Below average would actually be a massive improvement.
