Honestly, not counting on Neal at all this year

I thought he was a great pick at number 7.
Man I was 100% wrong…

Well sounds like Matt Nelson is healthy.

players on both lists count against the 90-man roster limit.

They can come off both lists any time during camp.

I'm not sure what they are doing with Aaron Robinson. As Dottino said above, his knee must be wrecked.
Hopefully it’s a short stint
The_Boss : 7/23/2024 7:27 pm : link
He can come off at any time and start participating in practice immediately. Was hoping with a new OL staff, he’d benefit immensely if he was a full go from jump.

I don't think he's suited up since that Bears home game in late September/early October '22. I remember watching that game @ a bar in NH.
Probably a blessing in disguise
bigblue12 : 7/23/2024 7:49 pm : link
Should force them to put Elumenor at RT where he belongs and maybe Neal can slide in at guard if and when he’s ready
Hope
Toth029 : 7/23/2024 7:56 pm : link
They skip the funny business and don't trot out Ezeudu over at RT. A swing guy? Go for it and see if Bricillo can improve him, but Eluemunor needs to be the RT day 1 in camp.

Would be good news if they signed Van Roten.
Not to be cynical, but why is Aaron Robinson still here?
DavidinBMNY : 7/23/2024 7:59 pm : link
Missing an entire season, and then going on PUP another 6 months later, I mean he is done - right? Not his fault, but isn't it time to just free up the roster spot?
Also Re: Neal
DavidinBMNY : 7/23/2024 8:03 pm : link
This is not unexpected, given his lack of action in the pre-season. What was surprising was that Elumanor solely played Guard. I rely like that they gave Ezudu a ton of snaps because last year was unfair to him. That said, do an injury settlement and release Robinson. Sign Van Rotten. Let's go...

He’s probably a really nice guy and works his butt off. In the Giants organization that carries a ton of weight, offset by the minor fact that he isn’t helping the team at all.

Lot of truth to this.
Neal was the absolute correct pick that has not worked out.
ThomasG : 7/23/2024 8:19 pm : link
The Giants have picked a bunch of poor choices on day 1 and 2 for years. Neal was a good risk and hasn’t stepped up at all. Many of those others were awful risks.

It’s on Neal.

The 2022 draft looks pretty poor overall league wide.

If you played the hindsight card, we certainly missed out on quality WRs available at #7.

Leave it to Dallas, however, to find three Pro Bowl quality players from there 2022 selections.

Tyler Smith, Jake Ferguson, and Daron Bland.

Will McClay is unbelievable...

Had Evan Neal atop of their draft board.
I m sure he's disappointed but to be honest I had zero expectations
Blue21 : 7/23/2024 8:49 pm : link
for him. In fact I didn't expect him to be successful. To me his feet aren't quick enough. I m not an oline coach by any stretch but I know what I see. I agree with those that say next time we see him he ll be a guard and maybe on another team.
Are we sure the Physically Unable to Perform
UberAlias : 7/23/2024 8:52 pm : link
Label is injury related? Maybe they just realized he physically sucks and doesn’t perform.

Sadly, the only bigger bust than Neal was owned by Jayne Mansfield.
Jones was not pupped?

That is most important TBH if true.
I wouldn't blame Schoen if he dealt Neal right now

That player has been an enigma for his entire career, and he just cannot stay healthy.
Just let him go, Joe. Sign a veteran who'll be able to help the OL.

What are you trading him for? A YouTube TV subscription?
So what's ailing Neal?

Horrid offensive line play, I suppose we can wait another year to see if Evan Neal pans out. No big deal.
So which is true?

I disagree about this comparison because unlike Becton, Neal was and is always in shape. He's not fat. He's unlucky. And let's not forget that the Giants medical staff said his ankle was not broken and he continued to play on it and give it his all.

I don't think you have that quite right. It should read:

1. Shit happens, or
2. When shit happens it is ALWAYS happens to the Giants offensive line.

The answer is #2.

Part of a growing club, Rick, with JS the charter member.

I recall a video, a week or two after the draft, of Neal, all 330 lbs of him or whatever, crouched in a smallish box perhaps 3.5 to 4.0 feet high, who used all his leg force to spring up and out of the box onto a nearby shelf/ledge. It was an extraordinary show of power and strength. We were all tickled and pleased as punch, this guy was 'can't miss'.

Sy' had his doubts at the time, balance, winds up on the ground too much, even though he had EN ranked as his 1st or 2nd OL iirc.

Final tally is not in, yet, even if it's looking pretty dark right now. Giants--hopefully led by saviour Bricillo (is he?? please lol)--need to do something they've been very poor at the past decade and self scout hard, really hard, about Neal's positional future.

well alrighty then. I stand corrected.
Giants need to admit
Harvest Blend : 7/24/2024 9:20 am : link
that this needs to go in another direction and bring in reinforcement(s) through whatever means necessary.

I'm through with this Neal stuff and like it or not, fair or not, Schoen has to eat the shit.
I think the key point here is
David B. : 7/24/2024 9:28 am : link
Regardless of Neal's future role, the Giants better start viewing Neal as being on the he won't be ready, list. Put Eluminor at ORT from day 1 of training camp until Neal can get on the field, stay on the field, and take the job from him (if he can). They can't dick around waiting for him.

Hell, we all just saw in episode 4, Schoen tell Jones something like, "We haven't given up on you, but we have to do what's best to protect ourselves in case you aren't ready to go." That same reasoning should apply to Neal as well.

As for Robinson, I assume they can IR him again if he can't play. I agree keeping him around is untidy, but he's not costing them much.
He needs to sit until the ankle is 100% ready
Metnut : 7/24/2024 9:28 am : link
Whether that's 1 week, 4 weeks or 10 weeks. Neal is barely playable to this point when healthy. Him trying to play NFL OL in a compromised position injury wise isn't tenable.
This is a good move especially in
TheBlueprintNC : 7/24/2024 9:44 am : link
the beginning of camp -coming of ankle surgery.. let him heal up dont rush it.. yes we all want him to get on the field but he needs to heal.. i still think this can payoff bigly this season down the road.. i would keep him on side and working building up movement and strength until he is ready to take over. His growth as an NFL starter has been stunted by injury and poor coaching and poor support at RG. Perfect scenario now is get OL right and then bring him in later. Joe addressed the OL Team Depth. Will probably add another one as we go along too. there will be cuts.
For a totally re-made team under Joe Schoen
M.S. : 7/24/2024 10:05 am : link

that is also very young, he is relying on older veterans to start or serve as key back-ups along the offensive line:

Jon Runyan, Jr. Age 27
Austin Schlottmann Age 29
Jermaine Eluemunor Age 30
Aaron Stinnie Age 30

It's not about their talent but rather their sheer size, and huge men with that size with mobility could run more risk with injuries.
Based on Sy’s Scouting Report
Bernie : 7/24/2024 10:17 am : link
I was wary of Neal, especially when I saw him constantly on the ground. I also thought Charles Cross was the better player when it came to pass protection, however, Neal was better in the run game. In true Giants fashion, they chose wrong. Ugh.
I

admit that I wanted Neal very much at #7. But that was before I learned that he didn't do any agility drills at the combine or his pro day. OTOH, he was dominant in the SEC. I agree that it's beginning to look like guard may be his best position.

Look, we need to apply the Daniel Jones model to many of these drafted players, particularly the lottery picks.

We really won't know what we have until the sixth season.

It’s simply the culmination of his rehab from an injury that apparently was downplayed . I am certainly skeptical about Neal. Who wouldn’t be? But he’s going to get an another chance to prove that he belongs out there .
