move to Guard in the future if his career is to be salvaged. While it is too early to freak out the fact is he has been injured a decent amount and he has not exactly been stellar when healthy.
This is when we find out what Schabs are really made of …
Neal was their guy and they simply cannot go deep into camp without being 100% sure of his status and availability. They have maybe 2-3 weeks at most to either get him on the field in pads or execute plan B … and plan B must include someone not currently on the roster.
Gotta hope JE is running with the 1s at RT from day 1.
I get that they didn't have that many picks, but if last season should have taught this front office anything it's that they need competent depth at the swing tackle position.
RE: Gotta hope JE is running with the 1s at RT from day 1.
He most likely will be a guard. Everyone can save face.
Seeing him for 2 years, he never played like a competent NFL tackle consistently. You can’t have that on the outside. I do think he can be an excellent guard so maybe we can salvage something.
It’s beyond belief at this point. Its hit most every player on the line. And most every other position as well. It’s been way more than a decade of this. And it’s not like a few weeks. It’s whole seasons and whole careers. Really discouraging.
This is not an injury bug. He broke his ankle last year and had surgery in January. It was early in the season.
Not Good news angle, Evan Neal sucks and now he missing important reps.
My new hopeful news, Evan Neal had bad coaching and played on broken ankle that bad enough that is still not fully healed. Maybe is not as bad as we think he is?
My new conspiracy angle,Evan Neal does suck at tackle and now the reps can go to their rightful owners to keep the job. Neal comes back to learn to play Guard.

Robinson badly wrecked his knee two seasons ago - yes, this is one of the longest rehabs in memory - and has worked his butt off for even the slimest chance to make it back.

Neal never played after he rolled his left ankle against the Raiders: the injury that turned out to be a fracture.
He left the game, was replaced by Tyre Phillips, and that was the end of his season.
His previous ankle injury, from which he did return, was to his right ankle.
He can come off at any time and start participating in practice immediately. Was hoping with a new OL staff, he’d benefit immensely if he was a full go from jump.
They skip the funny business and don't trot out Ezeudu over at RT. A swing guy? Go for it and see if Bricillo can improve him, but Eluemunor needs to be the RT day 1 in camp.
Would be good news if they signed Van Roten.
Not to be cynical, but why is Aaron Robinson still here?
Missing an entire season, and then going on PUP another 6 months later, I mean he is done - right? Not his fault, but isn't it time to just free up the roster spot?
This is not unexpected, given his lack of action in the pre-season. What was surprising was that Elumanor solely played Guard. I rely like that they gave Ezudu a ton of snaps because last year was unfair to him. That said, do an injury settlement and release Robinson. Sign Van Rotten. Let's go...

He’s probably a really nice guy and works his butt off. In the Giants organization that carries a ton of weight, offset by the minor fact that he isn’t helping the team at all.

Lot of truth to this.
Neal was the absolute correct pick that has not worked out.
The Giants have picked a bunch of poor choices on day 1 and 2 for years. Neal was a good risk and hasn’t stepped up at all. Many of those others were awful risks.
I was going to ask which one, but I guess either works
I'll admit I had a similar concern about Neal.
At least he knows the OL coach well.
It's only Plan B because Neal was a lottery pick. Otherwise, based on his actual play, Eluemenor is just a better player right now.
While a lot of the 2022 draft is looking below average right now, Neal is looking like a real stain on Schoen's drafting.
He might live up to his potential elsewhere, but it's looking like it's not happening here.

I agree. Part of what killed the OL last year is they started replacing guys after week 1, whether due to injury or guys sucking
1) Reliance on rookies / unproven players
2) Poor / non-existent veteran depth
The third thing I hoped they learned from last year was spending way too much time with too many offensive line combinations.
The starting OL should be:
Thomas LT
JMS C
Eluemunor RT
Runyan G
Best from among Stinnie /Schlottmann or Van Roten (if signed) G
Keep your best projection of the starters together during first team practices and scrimmages.

was he might be too big to succeed and stay healthy under NFL wear and tear. It's not unusual. Beckton gave me similar vibes.

I guess you’re right but, I like Becton, I think Neal carries his weight easily and actually looks smaller out of pads

If as expected Plan B for RT is Eluemenor, they’re still going to need another G.

Lottery pick?
Man I was 100% wrong…
Well sounds like Matt Nelson is healthy.
They can come off both lists any time during camp.
I don't think he's suited up since that Bears home game in late September/early October '22. I remember watching that game @ a bar in NH.
Would be good news if they signed Van Roten.

It's very sad, but I think his playing career might be over.

It’s on Neal.
