Hi guys,
Going to the Yanks/Sox game Saturday night with my brother and father. Will be all of our 1st time at Fenway (we're Yankees fans) and none of us know Boston very well.
Will be getting into Boston around noon and game isn't until 7pm so looking for a few spots to check out for the afternoon. This is definitely more of a guys baseball day, so not really looking for super tourist stuff more a nice spot to get a good lunch and a beer before the game or any other can't miss spots.
Hotel is downtown, but open to moving around the city as the weather is looking very nice.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Regina's is damn good thin crust pizza; I believe that it's in the North End.
Boston is an awesome place.
Have fun.
I'd get lunch in the North End, but not Reginas.
So many good places, but I'd try Antico Forno or Limoncello. The veal parm at Limoncello (what I use to compare Italian restaurants) is the best.
Get some pastries if you're a dessert guy after that at Modern or Mikes (or Bovas if the line is too long). freshly made cannoli, or my favorite if I eat sweets which is rare - the Torrone. capuccino torrone is addictive. at least one of Mikes or Modern is cash only, fyi.
then after that lunch maybe a siesta or a walk to burn off those calories then head over to Fenway and I'd go to bleacher bar. It's basically a bar in the wall of the green monster. kind of cool view of the field and ballpark, they close the view once the game starts.
Also fun pre-game is Game On. Corner of Lansdowne street @ Fenway.
There are so many different things to do,mit really depends. I can make ten completely different itineraries for ten different people.
But, you said it’s a sports day with the guys and staying downtown, mos I’ll stick to just that and only that.
Sports freaks, you might like the Boston Garden tour to break up the trip a bit. But if you’re baseball only freaks, hard to not do the Fenway tour early, then game at night.
Cask N Flagon & Bleacher Bar are kinda the traditions, and walk the streets before game time. The buzz will be intense. Personally, I like Sweet Cheeks around the corner.
After the game, should be a fun atmosphere around the stadium. But Sox win, they’ll be obnoxious. Yanks win, you’re the enemy.
The North End suggestion is spot on day or not, best part of Boston IMO.
Have an awesome weekend.
No way I would plan to hit the North End after the game for dinner.
This isn't NYC, most places close at 10pm for dinner, even on a Saturday.
[quote] how good of a meal you want.

The meatballs were pretty fantastic as well as pretty much anything on their menu.

These are great recommendations. Lunch in the North End, hit a bakery after lunch. Head to Fenway after that.
There are a LOT of good restaurants in the North End, so suggest scanning Yelp to narrow down the choices based on what you like the most. Not a bad idea to try for a reservation, although not all of those places take reservations. Also worth noting which restaurants are cash-only.
If you like an Old Fashioned, do recommend stopping at Bencotto for an Italian Old Fashioned. You may even want to eat lunch there, the food is great.
Yes, plan to stop at a bakery after lunch. Many opinions on which is better, Mikes or Modern, but really the best one is Bova's. You wont go wrong at any of them.
By then, timing is probably right to head to Fenway. Once inside, try the sausage sandwich. Hard to beat.
I expected more when I went earlier in the year. We had seats where you couldn't see home plate because of the poles. Didn't know they had a "big screen" TV until about the 4th inning because we couldn't see it.
I've been to Boston once before, but what is good on a Saturday night for a couple of 45+ guys who like to drink.
Thanks 🙏
Always liked walking though Boston, its an really walkable place. Start on Newbury Street, walk down to the Public Garden, get a beer at Cheers (if its still there), walk through the business district to Fanuel Hall (more drinks and bars). The North End is then right there.
Also like the North End/Paul Revere tours. Only 90 minutes or so and you go through the whole "one of by land two if by sea" thing. Also the Esplanade on the Charles River is really nice.

tons of places to just grab a drink but if you want somewhere fun I was just at a work event at this place called Kings. it's in Back Bay - but nothing in Boston is really far.
this place has pool tables, bowling lanes, games like pop a shot, etc. - lots of TV's good beer selection and bar food.
link to it below.
Trillium is a great recommendation or anywhere in the Fenway area will be fun. Game day or not.

Fenway is a giant piece of shit. The ‘nostalgia’ bullshit is just that.
Again, Fenway is a giant piece of shit. Doesn’t matter what age you are. I’ve been there as an 6 year old pissing in the troughs, been there as a 20 year old, been there as a 40 year old. Garbage. Stadium. The only reason it stands today is because there’s no logistical place to move the team to a better one.

It isn't that Fenway Park SUCKS.
Fenway Park isn't for SUCKERS, who have no clue that they'll be sold the obstructed view seats.
it seems like the seats were built in the early 1900's for people who were 5' 8" and 130 pounds. tiny dudes, kids or women.
if you are 6 feet tall or even close to it and weigh anything over 170 pounds you spill into the seat next to you, not even factoring in the awkward views and obstructed seats - which as mentioned are clearly marked.
but it's all worth it IMO.
other than the wave and sweet caroline those two things deserve all the scorn they get.
Also, if you choose grandstand seats, choose those past section 26 on the 3rd base side. They are past the netting and angled toward home plate. Many of the similar seats on the 1st base side are anged toward the outfield. Lastly, if you have small children there is no better place to take them to see a mlb game. You are on top of the action even in most grandstand seats if you sit in the first 10 or so rows.

The 3rd curb (upstream), from the resident winos.
Went in 2010 and 2015. I didn't see the appeal.
