JJM, Nix, & Penix...who has the best career?

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 7/24/2024 7:52 pm
Just curious on the BBIers takes.

I know people-myself included-are going to be following their every snap. I'm doubtful any of them are starting Week 1, but I figure one or two will be QB1 sometime this fall, be it bad play or injury by the Week 1 starter.

My guess is JJM has the best career.
I'll Play

Nix will have the best because of Sean Payton.

JJM will have an average / journeyman career.

Penix will be the bust because of a career ending injury.

Agreed with Nix.
robbieballs2003 : 7/24/2024 7:57 pm : link
The HC/QB relationship is critical.
I'm going with Nix
PatersonPlank : 7/24/2024 7:59 pm : link
because I think he was the most underrated. He seemed to be overlooked even those his stats were unbelievable, sort of like Marino. I think JJ was overrated, he became the draft darling guy, and Penix is just to injury prone.
Easy

JMM. First he's super smart. Second he has JJ and Jordan Addison. Bo Nix is going to be a career backup. Penix will be 27 when he throws his first NFL pass unless Cousins gets hurt.
I think Penix is the better prospect, but in a bad situation

I agree that Nix has the best coach and will do the best.

I think McCarthy will do better than journeyman level, just based on Jefferson being his WR.
I never saw it with McCarthy...
bw in dc : 7/24/2024 8:18 pm : link
So, I have to assume he will not be anything very special in the NFL.

Having an opportunity to be developed and schooled by Payton is certainly an advantage for Nix. And if that clicks, you have to like Nix's chances.

Penix? I think he's the biggest wildcard of the three. He certainly has the arm talent to do special things, but I think he's mostly one dimensional as a PP only. If he can extend plays, he might could really surprise.

I'll go Nix, Penix and then McCarthy.
I wanted McCarthy
Lines of Scrimmage : 7/24/2024 8:47 pm : link
but liked Nix as well. QB gurus on here were saying both were not first round QB's on a couple college threads. Couple of them are consistent in being wrong at least.

I think JM may take some time but he will be a good QB. Nix with good support will be an efficient QB imv.

I did not have an interest in Penix in round 1 and maybe he becomes a solid backup.

We'll see.

id go JJM though i dont love that he started off w/ contract drama
Eric on Li : 7/24/2024 8:56 pm : link
can tell he was mentored by harbough.
I’ll bet on JJM and Justin Jefferson
bwitz : 7/24/2024 8:57 pm : link
I see Penix on another team next year if Cousins does well.

Nix, no clue. I have zero confidence in Sean Peyton.
Betting favorite has to be Nix because of Payton
Go Terps : 7/24/2024 9:08 pm : link
I think Penix would have been a great fit in NY. Great deep ball, throws it in bad weather...would have unlocked Slayton and Hyatt as deep threats.
JJM

I believe that JJM will become the best QB in the class.
McCarthy is so young and inexperienced.
I hope that Minnesota gives him time to develop.

We will see if I am right.
I think JJM has the best situation
Blue Baas : 7/24/2024 10:25 pm : link
Kevin O'Connell brings in the McVay offense. TJ Hockenson, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Darrisaw, O'Neill... I don't like the other twos' help. Broncos roster is rough, could Jones Nix. Falcons have some pieces and Penix doesn't need to start right away, I'd put him second.
I like Nix and Penix both, but with Penix's injury history, I have to
Ira : 7/24/2024 10:32 pm : link
go with Nix. I think JJM may not make it in this league.

I agree with this. McCarthy has a lot of parts in place to succeed.
All 3 end up career back-ups
larryflower37 : 7/25/2024 12:18 am : link
I think all 3 end up similar to a Drew Lock type QB.
JJM
stretch234 : 7/25/2024 5:01 am : link
JJM - I think he is the safest of the 3 mentioned

Nix was not a good QB until he had superior talent around him. He will not have that in the NFL

Penix is not going to be able to just throw up balls and have WR go get them. In the NFL there are defenders unlike the PAC-12. With him you also hold your breath every hit he will take
Nix
5BowlsSoon : 7/25/2024 7:33 am : link
Pennix won’t play for at least two years….this might actually make him a better QB.

JJM has great supporting cast in Minny so I wouldn’t be surprised if he does well. Heck, I think even DJones would do well there.

I tend to concur. JJM has talent around him in Minnesota, but the track record isn’t good for QB’s who were able to win at the college level because of a running game and defense shortening games. Nix succeeded in a spread offense with a lot of quick/short passes. While Payton gives him someone that can make an NFL offense with the skill set, I don’t think Denver has the pieces to actually implement. Penix the peripherals suggested a lot of chuck and duck especially under pressure. Combined with age and injury history I am skeptical about long term potential.
I think JJM will eventually be the better QB
56goat : 7/25/2024 7:54 am : link
but it may take some time to get there. He is still pretty young.
I'm going to go with JJM

I think he's in a good situation to succeed.
If Penix
Everyone Relax : 7/25/2024 9:05 am : link
can get on the field in the next 2 seasons I really think itll be him. I loved Nix in college and hes what they call a "dawg" so I'm rooting for him. JJM I dont feel good about
I like Penix out of the 3,
Section331 : 7/25/2024 9:09 am : link
but he’s in a bad situation. Maybe ATL looks to move him next off season if Cousins plays well and stay healthy. I’m not sold on Nix, his numbers last year were wildly overinflated by screens that went for big gains, so I’m going to go with JJM. As others have pointed out, he has weapons around him, and I think he’s good enough to get the ball to them.
Penix if he stays healthy.
The Mike : 7/25/2024 9:10 am : link
Nix and JJM are journeymen backups with ceilings of Darnold, Trubisky, DJ et al and floors of Lance, Z Wilson, Pickett et al. No way you take any of these types of players with a top ten pick.
Penix,
Spider43 : 7/25/2024 10:10 am : link
Nix, JJ. In that order. I think JJ will bust. Penix and Nix will have good careers.
Penix
chiro56 : 7/25/2024 12:10 pm : link
And I wanted him later in the first
when in doubt go with the specs
djm : 7/25/2024 12:42 pm : link
with that mind I go Penix. I wanted him too but love that NYG got Nabers.
Most likely answer is that they
mfjmfj : 7/25/2024 1:43 pm : link
will be career backups at best. of the 3 I think JJ will have the best shot at a real career.
Nix
Adam G in Big D : 7/25/2024 5:13 pm : link
Nothing elite about him but probably the best all around QB of the 3 and no serious injuries.
I was hoping Schoen would be able to swing a trade after drafting
GeofromNJ : 7/25/2024 8:56 pm : link
Nabers and move up in the first round to snatch Nix. Don't know if Schoen tried, but word is that Payton thinks he struck gold with Nix. I think he might have.
I like Penix
gary_from_chester : 7/25/2024 9:27 pm : link
Think he has ‘it’. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a successful career.

Nix has a chance to be a good starter. At worst, he’s a long term quality backup

Of the three, JJM is the longshot for me.

So I’ll probably get it all wrong… but I was hoping the Giants got Penix with a tradeback in round one, or in round two. He’s probably going to sit awhile but Cousins is in his mid 30’s, so don’t be surprised if you see Penix sooner than many think.
