NFT: ⚾Mets vs. Braves Series: Games 1-4 ⚾Gm 1 - 7:10 pm ET start⚾

Optimus-NY : 7/25/2024 5:11 pm
Welcome to another series thread, this time against the hated Braves. Both teams would be in the playoffs if they started today. There’s even a realistic chance that they could play against each other in the Wildcard round, so this series carries a lot of weight. The Mets have a record of 3-3 against them so far this season. Kodai Senga will be making his season-debut in this series. The Mets completed their road trip against the Marlins & Yankees to start the post All-Star Break portion of the schedule with a record of 4-2. Click HERE to read a series preview of this series. Enjoy 😊!

For real man. Megill makes me wanna hurl. Put him in the pen and insert Butto into the rotation. Too bad about Senga but he's basically missed the entire year this year anyway. Check out the snapshot below of this tweet for some good news:

think the mets end up adding at least 2 more P's and i still think SFG make a ton of sense as a trade partner.

good on Stearns for not letting too much out yet. seems pretty good at not telegraphing specific targets.

15 k's for Snell in 6 innings. He's the most fascinating name on the trade market bc of the $ situation. If I were Mets GM I'd be looking to leverage saving SFG as much money as possible by taking on as many of their guys as they are willing to trade. Rogers, Snell, Conforto, whoever.

lopez, hicks, and lugo would have been great signings bc at their prices even if they didnt all work out as SP like they have they could have shifted to RP.

obviously Fedde they went after and almost got too.

still have no idea why they backed off imanaga but all the other big markets did too so i can only assume it was medicals.

well get a wildcard spot, but thats where it will end (in my opinion). They just don’t have the pitching to contend in the post season. Not even close actually.

Letting the scuffling Braves (your direct competition) tee off on you the past couple of days while your bats fall asleep just amplifies this team’s inconsistency.

I would have rather Stearns use some of his upper minors talent instead of Winker and focus more on pitching.
Hard to kill Peterson too much - he’s done a good job as

Walking into this season with Megill as a starter is just malpractice.

coop, you have the right to be a fan however you want but you can basically copy/paste this same stupid comment every time they lose or are losing more than 1 game in a row.

at worst they will split this series.

the deadline is still a couple days away and 2 of the players they've acquired in the last 2 days havent even played yet.

on july 28th 2023 Arizona lost their 2nd game in a row to fall to 55-49.

they actually then ended up losing 10 of their next 12 and on 8/11 they were 57-59.

in the new playoff format anything can happen and july predictions are barely worth the mega bytes their typed into.

But the Braves are still very interested in winning, their pitchers today got outs when he needed, and Olsen loves hitting against Petersen; last year I saw Olsen hit the longest home run I ever witnessed at Citi Field against Petersen (in the pouring rain no less)-he's a big boy.

Good Twin team coming in this week, let's hope for 2 of 3 before they go on a long roadie.

Petersen has looked like a major league pitcher this year and they're going to need more of that, especially if Megill is starting every 5th day.

6 and 4 since the All-Star break; keep up that pace and they are in business.

Circle August 22-29 on your Met's calendar....those are seven games on the road against San Diego and Arizona....big games.
Check out the scoreboard...
Optimus-NY : 7/28/2024 4:34 pm : link
-Cards are tied with the Nats (Go Nats)
-Oriole are leading the Padres in the 8th (Go O's)
-Pirates & D-backs are scoreless in the 2nd (a loss by either side helps, but a D-backs loss would be better a the moment)

they cannot count on megill, they need to add another SP option even if it's a paxton level depth player.

i would be surprised if they dont have 1 bigger move left in them, the question now is if they go BP or SP?

i think they add some depth to both, but where is the better place to go big impact?

id still be trying to take on as much $ from SFG as possible to kill 2 birds/1 stone.

I only peeked at the score and lost interest once it was 4-0...but, I wondered why Lopez came out after three.

Wow, if this is anything serious, the Braves will really be the hard luck injury team....Acuna, Albies, Strider, Fried and now Lopez?

Pitchers and injuries...totally different world in 2024...it's all about velocity, spin rate and then these pitchers break down.

Speaking of arm injuries, anyone know what's going on with Jacob DeGrom?
deGrom should become a reliever at this point IMO.

With deGrom’s stuff, he’d rival Mariano as a closer (as crazy as that is to say). But - there’s more money in the starting pitching game - and it’s always about the money. DeGrom as a closer would be nasty.

It's the right move. He just can't give up the ghost though as far as starting is concerned. I'm glad the Mets let him walk. He didn't want to come back here anyway. Glad he got a ring---one that he (& Max) didn't actually earn, but that's neither here nor there, lol.

Better result. As a result, the Mets will hold onto possession of he 3rd N.L. Wildcard spot today. They're half a game ahead of the D-backs, with the Mets having a game in hand on them.

the SFG are close enough to the WC now that they seem to not have certainty whether they are buying or selling. final 46 hours are going to be wild, a lot of big targets still out there. i think fedde, scott, and fairbanks are probably 3 of the top targets for mets. flaherty somewhere in there too.

then a bunch of depth options to fill in around whatever impact guy they think is fairly priced enough.

On Sunday, “insane” prices complicated the Mets brand new rotation search

Quote:
A day after the Mets jumped into the starting pitching market, they fell victim to the same frustrations complicating everyone’s pursuit of arms: The prices were so high that they had to adjust their plans.

Though the Mets have and will continue to explore every possibility, expectations shifted on Sunday. The team is now seeking a possible depth starter, along with -- they hope -- one more reliever.

An important caveat to any trade deadline report is that market dynamics change every day, and there is a relative eternity between now and 6 .p.m. Tuesday. Some of these sellers will lower their demand before the end.

Right?

“Everyone I spoke to today said the starting pitching and relief market are insane,” said one longtime general manager. “Maybe it will change Tuesday.”

The Mets have never intended to part with top prospects in trades this year, and have cleverly managed to acquire two pitchers in relievers Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek, without doing so. They achieved that with a combination of taking on salary and targeting a pair of relievers having decent but uneven years. Of course, that strategy also comes with performance risk, and Stanek was booed off the mound Sunday after allowing two home runs in his Mets debut.

As committed as they have become to winning this season, the Mets expect to remain disciplined about trading top prospects. By the end of Sunday, there was a sense that unless prices came way down, their remaining trade deadline activity would be modest.

hopefully they can take on some quality players with big salaries bc i agree it's definitely not worth giving up top prospects. we may yet end up regretting not having outbid AZ for AJ Puk.

Trade for someone else’s garbage and you still get…garbage.

Nice job, Stearns?

after 1 fucking appearance and you're already like this? dude, be better.

I’m sorry - is this the first time he’s pitched this season? I guess a new uniform means that his shitty season (and shitty season last year) just go away? Maybe you are just another Stearns fanboy. Cool for you. What exactly were you expecting from Stanek?

Or…even better….you can just fuck off.

thanks cooper

On Sunday, “insane” prices complicated the Mets brand new rotation search

“Maybe it will change Tuesday.”

supply and demand.

I know its risky, but thinking outside of box, what about trading for a pitcher coming back from injury soon and with control for next year? Like a Casey Mize or maybe take on Alex Cobb and split his 10m

could maybe mention Luzardo but not sure how he is faring.

I'm bullish on Luzardo. I've always wanted him on the Mets.
