Fantasy Football Discussion - 2024 Season Prep

pjcas18 : 7/25/2024 5:55 pm
just had a couple things would like to hear other opinions on as I prepare for keeper selections and mock drafts.

1. Any concerns with McCaffrey this year?

In a keeper league I pick 2nd. I believe Cedee Lamb will go #1 and that leaves McCaffrey to me at 2.

Tyreek Hill, Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Bijan next in ADP (Breece Hall is a keeper).

Would you be comfortable with McCaffrey or Lamb regardless who goes #1?

2. How do you feel about Kyler Murray as QB1? I can keep him in the 8th round, and his ADP is more 6th. I think he has good keeper value with MHJ.
Last year I "had concerns" about CMC

and his injury history, so I passed on him at #1 and took my business to the always-efficient/never injured Austin Ekeler. My season went about how you'd expect. For better or worse, this year if given the chance, no more passing on CMC.
I've been doing fantasy football since 1993...

And I learned to jump off guys that, while studs, have lots of miles on the treads...better to go with 1-3 year guys with potential for picking an older 30+ player based on what they did they year before...

last year the guy in my league with pick #1 traded with the guy who had pick #3 and they swapped in round 4 too - that was the only compensation.

straight up trade - no other picks or players.

Because the guy who had the #1 pick was concerned about CmC. So he picked Travis Kelce #3. It didn't end well for that guy.

CmC went on to put up TD's in 17 straight games (not all last year, but still).

point, injuries can befell anyone. Jefferson was the consensus 1OA last year, and look what happened.

CMC, if healthy, is going to get 200+ carries, along with 70+ targets on a top tier offense. He's the goal line back, and it's the same exact depth chart behind him as last year. At a position where bellcows are becoming more rare, he's a great start, and can allow you to hammer WRs after.
Pass on CMC for me

if I pull 1 I always trade out. Just don’t like the health odds.

I like Murray but haven’t done my homework on when I’d take him.
If

#1 takes CMC would you be comfortable with Lamb #2?

PPR league.

I would grab CMC until he proves that he cannot produce. If he is taken with the first pick, then I would go with Tyreek instead of Lamb.
Isn't Lamb holding out?
ZogZerg : 7/25/2024 8:13 pm : link
I guess he'll eventually be in, but that bothers me.
I like Hill over Lamb too
UConn4523 : 7/25/2024 8:21 pm : link
the odds Lamb duplicating 2023 aren’t high IMO, lots of uncertainty with him, Dak, etc.
I still think you take CMC
JT039 : 7/25/2024 9:31 pm : link
number 1. It’s just so automatic as he produces for a RB and WR.

My bold take. Number 1 RB this year: Breece Hall.

He's rated the #2 RB by ADP after McCaffrey so it's not THAT bold.
You take Lamb over Hill

It's about volume.

Lamb will lead the league in targets. There are many mouths to feed on the Miami offense.

It's all about the math.

If CMC stays healthy he will be the number one player in fantasy. That's because he is the number one option in that offense.

When players are equal take the high volume player.
Hill has back to back 170 target seasons
UConn4523 : 7/25/2024 10:22 pm : link
Lamb seeing 180+ again isn’t a guarantee and contract negotiations and holdouts can have an impact. Hill will do more on 10 less targets, so that’s a wash IMO.
I just

think Lamb has less competition for touches/targets than Hill this year.

but that assumes Beckham stays healthy and when's the last time that happened.

I think they're close (Hill and Lamb)
The Hill-Lamb thing is an interesting debate

My daughter & I run a team in my 25 year league we have the #2 pick. It's a keeper league but you can't keep guys from the first 2 rds so most of the heavy hitters are available. We expect CMC should go #1, we're both in consensus to go Hill at #2. It's really close but after the year he had last year in Miami with all the same mouths to feed we're not worried about that. The guy is still the best homerun hitter in football.
CMC

Like him a lot. I would handcuff him with Mitchell. Everyime I take CMC I make sure I get Mitchell.
I run a SuperFlex League with 1 Keeper
RC in MD : 7/26/2024 5:36 am : link
You can only keep a player drafted in the 4th round or later.

My keeper is Kyler Murray for 9th round pick. I do have the ability to keep James Cook for 8th round pick; however, a potential Top 10 QB to use as my SuperFlex is too enticing to pick a RB.

With that in mind, I have the 4th pick, and SuperFlex strategy says to go QB (Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, or Jalen Hurts). However, part of me wants to draft either CMC or Lamb with the 4th pick if either is available. I can then try to draft a second tier QB in the 2nd or 3rd round to use as my SuperFlex and use Murray as my QB.

I don't mind that strategy RC. Normally my tendency would be QB at 4 b/c it's superflex, but with so many rookie QB's and if you keep Kyler I do think you can 2nd and 3rd QBs later. Alternatively say Lamb, Hill, CMC go 1-3 or some combination of them (maybe 2 of them not all 3) then you have your pick of the available QB's - win/win IMO.
