Its not really "Loaded"

Boston, NY and Philly are the clear cut top 3.

Bucks and cavs i put in the 4-5 spot

Orlando i out firmly in the 6th spot

Miami and the Pacers fighting for the 7th seed..

I dont think anyone though below the top 3 can touch them

they need to keep deuce, sign Achiuwa (need him as a power forward behind Randle), and sign a cheap veteran backup center (no trade of deuce or achiuwa) or elevate one of the young centers from the summer league.

With these moves, they will challenge this year in the east. Please do not break up further what they had last year. Just a shame they lost IHart!
Gonna be fun.

I’m desperate for Knicks basketball already. Knicks have been releasing highlight reels on YouTube of each player from last season, and I find myself watching them every few days. I’m hoping for 55 wins and better health.

There are no more quality cheap veteran backup Centers. That will have to come via the trade market, perhaps in-season.

OG or Mikal will be the backup 4, Achouwa cant play the 4, the spacing is horrendous

Knicks will win 60+ in 24-25. I know that's a big statement but this team is stacked with star power and depth. They won 50 last year with virtually half the talent and star power of this current roster. Even if they lose a guy for 2-3 weeks here and there, 60 wins.

djm : 7/26/2024 11:22 am : link
don't bet the Knicks on my advice. You will lose. I am the kiss of death. I only gamble in Poker games where I can win.

Agree there will likely be an in-season trade for a backup C. It's not great, but to start the season backup C will likely be one of Sims, Skap or Precious (assuming he signs - weird that he hasn't yet). Skap looked good enough in SL to get a look with the big team and compete with Sims. Hukporti needs time in the G League before he's ready.

I like Deuce, and depth is important but where are his minutes coming from now? With DDV, Hart & a more true PG Kolek coming off the bench, where's Deuce fit in? Especially compared to a much more needed C.

I think there's a pretty good chance Deuce will be going in a trade if necessary for a C.

I know everyone is all excited about Kolek but why are we penciling him in already? He needs to prove he can play defense. Until that happens, I don't see him playing over McBride nor Cam Payne. There is a reason fans feel like Thibs doesn't play young kids. Imo, he played young kids when he didn't have vet options. When he has vet options that he can trust, he is going to make the young kids work for it.
There's a sharper diivide this year between haves and have-nots

in the East.

Going into last season, Knicks had the sixth highest projected win total at 44.5. Now there are eight East teams that project with that many wins.

OTOH, last year there were six East teams projected to win between 36.5 and 42.5 games. This year there are none.

Two of those teams, Pacers and Magic, have "graduated" to join the East "Group of 8" that project significantly over .500.

The other four (Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, Brooklyn) have dropped way down to join Charlotte, Detroit and Washington as the bottom feeding "Group of 7".

That means a lot of W's for the taking in the regular season. But, as always, the tale will be told in the playoffs. And none of the "Group of 8" figures to be a pushover.

I agree robbie that we can't pencil Kolek in right away, but the reports I've read from the SL is that he's NBA ready, although needing work on D. He already seems like a more natural PG than Deuce.

I'm not penciling him in to start the season, but wouldn't doubt that by the trade deadline he's getting time at the backup PG. I just kind of doubt Deuce is on this team next spring. But I could be totally wrong.
If we didn't have such a glaring need at C
Dr. D : 7/26/2024 1:47 pm : link
probably no one would be talking about trading Deuce. But of the guys on the bench, he might have the best combination of trade value and expendability.
MSG rebroadcasted game 6 versus the Sixers
shockeyisthebest8056 : 7/26/2024 2:18 pm : link
last week and it’s wild to think that two of Bridges, OG, Randle, DDV, and Hart will be on the bench in clutch spots. While the DDV and Hart are the obvious answers, those two made a lot of clutch plays in the postseason. Hart hit the series clinching shot in this game.

Good problem to have.

I think as presently constituted you are going to see the Knicks close with Brunson, DDV or Hart, Bridges, OG and Randle
Until they get a good backup 5
Carl in CT : 7/26/2024 2:59 pm : link
And I’m optimistic your need 54. That’s a high number. Only 4 teams did it last year. I would go under.

In that scenario, either Randle or OG is guarding the other team's C - which do you think? Whichever it is, that guy is de facto becoming our backup C, at least at crunch time (under your scenario, that is).

I think it depends on the matchup..

Celtics for instance it would be Randle guarding KP..

Sixers i would throw OG on Embiid BUT that is probably the one team your going to need Mitch..

Center
TyreeHelmet : 7/26/2024 3:39 pm : link
Theres a handful of centers in the league that pose a matchup problem for Randle at the 5 ( or even OG). And its really only maybe 3 guys... ( 2 in the west).

I would have liked to have Hartenstein back but I am really not worried about the backup center. I think Randle at the 5 will open up alot of offense...
I am really excited about OG as a closing
Jon In NYC : 7/26/2024 3:49 pm : link
5. I still think they should do that even if they get a backup center.

Brunson-DDV-Bridges-Randle-OG closing 5 might be the best offensively in the league.

I still also think they should move Deuce for a big. You can't have confidence in Mitch playing anything more than maybe 50 games and playoffs are a coin flip. Deuce for Duren or Kessler would be enough to have me really confident in the team going into the season. But I will be concerned if they don't make another trade. Precious isn't enough imo.

robbieballs2003 : 7/26/2024 5:20 pm : link
But he just seems too "soft" for lack of a better term to do that consistently. We know his m.o. is he gets injured a lot and takes a long time to get back. The only time he came back early in his career was in the playoffs this year and we know how that went. I don't think putting him against 5s is a great strategy.

Apparently the Knicks have the rights to French big Mathias Lessort. 28, Euroleague back to back all first team.

They just started him over Gobert in the second half and he is making shit happen. Definitely an interesting subplot if he plays well this tournament.

Also Wemby is unreal. He's going to be a top 10 player next year.
Just to put in context
Jon In NYC : 7/27/2024 12:41 pm : link
the other French players in the rotation:

Gobert, Wemby, Ntilikina (lol), Fournier, Batum, Couilibaly. So these are NBA guys and he's in theory a starter on this team.
When did Frank Ntilikina learn how to shoot 3s?

Interesting, first I've heard of Lessort. The Knicks do have his NBA rights. He's 6'9", 256 lbs, plays C. He's kind of a journeyman, has played all over Europe and doesn't stay anywhere very long.
