By all accounts Flott has really struggled in training camp. It’s becoming quite concerning as he has never had good training camps on the outside or in the nickel. He also isn’t much of presence physically and could be a liability against the run. If you’re Schoen what would you do?
1) Give Nick McCloud, who has played well when given a chance, starting reps opposite Banks
2) Give Tre Herndon, who has starting experience, starting reps opposite Banks
3) It’s still early in camp, let Flott work out his issues
4) Go out and sign an unsigned experienced corner for 5 to 6 million (Stephon Gilmore, Xavier Howard)
Keep in mind that using option 4 will limit your ability to find a starting calibre Guard or Defensive Tackle if needed down the line.
Most of Nabers highlights have been on Flott, the Talkin’ Giants also spoke about it yesterday on their podcast. I’ll see if I find a link.
No, but it’s Schoen’s job to look for upgrades when there is no viable starter on the team.

I'm sure you know that but I have to point that out.

Agreed but your first two points were for Schoen to give starting reps to players. That is what I was referencing.

Name one NFL vet CB that won't have trouble with Nabers...just saying
They are giving Flott the opportunity as he has the better athletic ability. But McCloud is there and did a decent job last year.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have competition!

I got you. I should have put Schoen and Daboll instead of just Schoen.
I suspect they mix and match a lot this year at that spot, based on the opponent
He was just released….
Since the '23 season, when he was tried at the nickel, an experiment that lasted ~ 4 games. He's not suited at the position, too long in body and too long to get to speed. Looking like the 3rd round pick might take the nickel.
And on the boundary Flott has the same issue vs quicker, esp. smaller receivers with good change of direction, which Flott doesn't have. And so far, he's not shown to be a good tackler. What else?
Unless I missed it, they didn't say a word about Flott struggling. Penix - who's never liked flott - said he was concerned because Flott hasn't grabbed the starter role in the past.
That would be one account; actually no accounts - just an opinion based on prior seasons.

Did you see the video? Both guys are concerned about Flott. Justin wants the Giants to give McCloud a chance, and Bobby wants a veteran brought in.
See the link video I posted earlier. Both Skinner and Penik, who both have been at every training camp practice so far, are concerned with Flott.
Im pretty sure these dudes still live with their parents. Not saying their football knowledge cant be there because of that but to say they are the be all end all/authoritative source of camp projections because when their not playing video games their watching the giants seems a bit off.

there have been no reports of Flott getting roasted in camp. If this is coming from Skinner, no one else is reporting it.

I'm not saying completely discount what they are saying, but no one else is reporting it and none of the clips we've seen show Flott getting roasted. Again, the offense is having issues moving the ball.

Well I trust what they are seeing. I guess we’ll see how Flott does next in the joint practice with the Lions.
No I’ve seen plenty of clips of Nabers, Slayton, and Hyatt getting behind Flott.
Because we aren't.

So to sum up, you are basing this thread on one source.

Because Jones isn’t doing a good job of completing his shots.

LOL
So you don't have the receipts.
Nabers has been giving everyone fits, including Banks.
So if you even come up with one highlight there, that doesn't mean much.

You're reaching.
Flott may stink, but you don't have any supporting evidence of this except two YouTubers.
Flott gets his revenge on Nabers - ( New Window )
Flott may or may not be a problem. The odds are we need an upgrade there. But through the first week of camp, what you are contending hasn't been obvious.

I’m guess I’m dumb for believing in “YouTubers”. Just remember this thread when Flott is getting toasted by the Lions next week.

Are you related to Skinner?
Because you seem to be taking this personally for some reason.
Again, there are about 10 guys who cover the Giants. None of them have said, "Flott is bad this practice." Not one. In six practices.
My point to you was to say that... and for some reason, you are getting bent out of shape about it.
Weird.

Well, I don’t appreciate saying I’m making shit up. The fact of the matter is that Flott has never shown to be a starting caliber player and he has never looked good in camp. It’s a huge concern.
THAT is making stuff up.
You literally just did that.
We're done. And I am sure that every time Flott gives up a reception, you'll feel somehow vindicated.
BTW, the offense just had a horrific day against the defense. But Flott had nothing to do with that, right?

We’ll agree to disagree then. Just remember this thread when the Giants are signing a veteran cornerback in a week or two.
OL - let's not trust McKethen or Ezuedu - glad we got the vets
CB - there's enough young talent to develop for CB #2
I like Flott as option 1
I like McCloud's floor
Hawkins could be good
But that's a guy you'd think he's have a lot of trouble with.
I don't get how we think the new coaching staff would stay with Flott if he was getting burnt left and right. Why?
This is creating controversy where there is none.
While I appreciate Talking Giants putting out the amount of content they do and they are obviously putting in the time they don't come across as the brightest football minds out there. Especially Justin.
eh, gersh, I'd go opposite, to say AJB is the type Flott matches up better with, a bit more size, more of speed guy, which Flott has plenty of once he gets his long body going, as vs smaller, twitchy, quick change of direction WRs
Quote:

Fair, and we saw he struggled in the slot
But I think he has a good skill set for outside match-ups.

Schoen is asleep at the wheel. Fire him and bring in co-gm's.
If you guys actually read the camp reports, all of the CBs have been playing well.
Again, that doesn't mean it will continue, but Hawkins, McCloud, Holmes, etc. have all been making plays.
That doesn't mean guys don't get beat, especially in 1-on-1 drills where it's really tough for any CB to cover.
Quote:
I know it's a different D coaching regime, but he did win the job out of camp last year.

The Giants should obviously be playing more zone in the 1 on 1 drills.
Why hasn't the new DC made that obvious adjustment yet?
Bowen is still going to run man coverage, including man concepts within zones.
It's basically glorified warm-up drills in advance of team drills.
The secondary might be deep and talented.
The release of A-Rob might be a big sign that the staff is comfortable with the guys they got.

I haven't, that's why I asked if he was still a possibility. I thought he should be better with a year under his belt.

That was a (failed) attempt at humor on my part.
He has been mentioned - favorably.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is starting slot CB - game 1.
Not strong competition there

As they should be. But they also haven't signed a legit vet so...we shall see.
We need to develop our own guys
@DDuggan21
Takeaways from the Hard Knocks finale:
Ryan Cowden was a background figure in the series and literally when he exclaimed "F---" while sitting behind Schoen after getting tipped about the Lassiter pick at 42. Seeing Daboll staring at the ceiling when that pick was made hits even harder after watching the CB2 struggles at the start of camp. CB2 was the biggest hole that hasn't been addressed this offseason.
In case you didn’t see it on the Hard Knocks thread.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who can't manage to sort their way through "I'm" or "they're" shouldn't really be speculating on anyone's living arrangements when they should probably be in remedial school instead.
