multiple pitches. He had the one tough inning but even that 3-run HR was basically a popup to the shortest point in the park. For a MLB debut against a good team, that wasn't bad (assuming he's not coming back for the 6th).
We’ve had a very high standard at closer even if ya leave Mo out of it - Wetteland, Soriano, Robertson, Miller, Chapman (early on at least). Clay doesn’t measure up.

the second he gets aguy on base he starts to freeze up
He had some bad innings, but come on. The guy made one bad pitch. Dribbler, slow ground ball, ground single, slow ground ball, wild pitch, slow ground ball, then one hard ground ball DJ should have had.

Oh, please. It happens to him FAR too often. You trust this guy in the postseason?

Not what I said. Bitch when he screws up, but that was just bad luck. If Cabrera was at third that might have been a double play. If Jazz let's that last ground ball go it's foul (he was in foul territory when he caught it).

any internal cavalry coming? some AAA starter who could give us a jolt as a reliever?
Efross is coming back at some point. Schmidt will be back at some point. In the playoffs, 2/3 of Nestor, Stroman, and Schmidt will be relievers. (I think they keep Stroman as the number 4 just because he doesn't have true strikeout stuff and is a seasoned professional, but who knows.) Will Warren may be on the postseason roster over some of the crap relievers.
Holmes, but man does he get some of the softest contact that manages to be a hit. He is a victim of his own sinker as they seem to end up little top spin rollers down the lines.
This is not any excuse, just an observation. He needs to get his control sorted out.
They are extremely weak at the late innings closing out games.

+1. Exactly, your closer can't consistently put people on base and expect to be successful.

I'd love a better closer, but did you watch the game? How exactly did he consistently put people on base' last night? Six ground balls. One made it through the infield (barely). The last one was the hardest hit but even that wasn't scalded. Innings like that happen occasionally when you have a sinkerball pitcher as your closer.
but it is what it is and his recent blows are not his fault he's getting nickel and dimed to death with soft contact and errors behind him. We don't have a better option. I think we'd have loved to get a Fairbanks or Finnegan but the prices were astronomical. Oh well we just have to hope for the best. Teams have gone into the playoffs with a shaky closer situation (Texas last year, Atlanta the year before) and had a guy or 2 get hot in the playoffs and solve it.

i agree he got nickled and dimed last night (he didn't in Boston Friday night), but he threw an awful wild pitch to let the tying run score. At the moment, I think the concers are justified.

Maybe you should watch more than one of their games. Last night was just another rinse and repeat with Clay Homes. Another BS because he keeps putting people on base. How many more excuses do we need for this guy? He's not a closer, and the team will find it very difficult to win a title if they keep running him out there to seal close games.
Chisolm gets an RBI FC....1-0
Blowing a golden opportunity as of now.

And Gleyber can't be bothered to swing ... RISP fail
Bases loaded no outs nets 1 run.
Sure looks like a scrub.
4-1 Philly after a three-run HR to the #9 hitter.
Bases loaded no outs nets 1 run.
He threw 3 fantastic pitches to Wells, I'm not mad at that AB.
Warren not bad, just every pitch looks the same.
And Jazz homers again!
Jazz with another HR and looks totally relaxed at 3rd base. I can see why people in the org liked him.
Need Wells to get a hit.
No doubt about it.
Geezuz how many weak ass hits does Holmes give up.
He will walk in the run
That was the only hard hit ball of the inning.
I’d settle for Righetti at this point.

How does he fit the jersey over the fork in his back?
No shot this gets to the 11th.

Who now on the mound?
Yup day game tomorrow starting at 12:35. He's gonna sit barring some crazy injury situation.
This fucking guy sucks
He's OK but not in the cleanup spot. #7 hitter maybe.
I never understand how pros at this level aren't busting it every time.
IBM said so.
Got ‘em
(Excuse the Vietnam War reference....)
Starting to feel like the Yankees again.
Well done.
Well done.
Me too. By far.
Hmm. There is a little something back in these guys.
Too early to say, but perhaps Chisolm found a home in da Bronx.
4 in a row?
Orioles beat the BJs...

why was Stanton sent up there to strike out?

Better chance cold off the bench than LeMahieu....

Effross and Trivino? Schmidt later in August.

Ian Hamilton, Scott Effross and JT Brubaker could all come back from the injured list, FWIW.
With this series win assured, 7 of the Yanks' next 8 series are against sub-.500 teams.

Cabrera was cheering the loudest on one of Jazz’s HR’s, you like to see that.

Cody Poteet is another arm who could return.
