Slayton switched agents

ajr2456 : 7/31/2024 10:40 pm
To Athletes First.

I didn't love Schoen's comments about Slayton. That felt unnecessarily shitty.

What did he say, roughly speaking?

christian : 7/31/2024 11:07 pm : link
He implied because Slayton signed a contract last year, he should STFU.
Slayton has been a consistent producer on BAD teams
OBJ_AllDay : 7/31/2024 11:08 pm : link
He’s playing pretty cheap in comparison to his contemporaries across the league. He’s disgruntled. And most likely on his way out the door after this season. And until proven otherwise he’s going into the season as the second best wr on this roster.

I predict that Slayton is one of our most expendable and tradable starters. Could easily see a trade at cutdown time for a 5th.
I like Slayton
Toth029 : 7/31/2024 11:18 pm : link
But the growth both physically and mentally for Hyatt will make him expendable.
Except for Nabers, Giants really don’t have anyone with
Ivan15 : 8/1/2024 12:12 am : link
Slayton’s skillset. He may be traded but it won’t be at cutdown time.

Yeah, because heaven forbid we have quality depth anywhere on the roster or a really good 4 WR set because it’s a run dominant league don’t you know. Unbelievable.

Yeah, I have no problem with Joe implying that.
Nothing wrong with Joe's comment
ZogZerg : 8/1/2024 7:10 am : link
Slayton was a FA and could have signed with ANY team. Obviously no other team offered the money the Giants did. So yeah, he needs to STFU and play well this year so he gets paid next year. Pretty simple.

As a GM - that’s what he should say/think.
I think it as a fan

I think Schoen wines a lot. And I think Slayton is awesome.

Athletes First wouldn’t sign a guy they didn’t think could get significant money

What is Slayton's skillset that others don't have. speed, others have that. the ability to drop passes, other can do that. I am confused by that comment. He is a good 3 rd or 4 th wideout on a quality roster.

christian : 8/1/2024 8:30 am : link
Slayton has progressively improved his reliability, and maintained his productivity, while playing with an empty bag at QB.

Slayton is going to get his this year, and do well in UFA next offseason.

It’s crazy that apparently only one person on this team gets held back by others. There’s no way people could be held back by someone else.

Slayton is VG WR and I agree he is better than BBI gives him credit for. But awesome is not the adjective for him. Effective is.

Schoen does not appear to be an alcoholic even if his wife was sipping some red on that last episode of HK...

christian : 8/1/2024 8:41 am : link
Lol. Schoen must have been drunk. It's the only only explanation for disrespecting my both Darius.
I didn't think Schoen was inappropriate at all with his comments
gidiefor : Mod : 8/1/2024 8:46 am : link
I like Slayton, he's a nice piece, but he is not a standout. He had no real bargaining power this off season...

Excellent reply! Ha ha ha - closet sipper
Slayton is gone after this year
blueblood : 8/1/2024 8:58 am : link
they will replace him with someone cheaper.. possiby already on the roster like a Ford Wheaton... or draft a WR..

christian : 8/1/2024 9:03 am : link
I think Hyatt is going to have a tough time leap frogging Slayton on the depth chart this year. But next year he'll slot in.

I like Slayton as a person and has played better than I thought he could
That said - he’s a complimentary WR who just chose to sign that contract in the open market. If a GM renegotiated every new contract with a player outperforming his contract - he should be fired

Hyatt is faster and has better hands
But he doesn’t know how play WR yet
Having Slayton until he does is excellent
He’s a Free Agent this offseason
JoeyBigBlue : 8/1/2024 9:30 am : link
Let’s hope he has a great season, so he can be paid elsewhere. Hopefully Hyatt further develops and can replace him next season.

I'm not sure who is more overrated on BBI, Slayton or Hyatt? You're crazy if you think you can get more than a 7th for Slayton. I'd be surprised if they got that.

The guy has had 700 or more yards in 4 out of his first 5 seasons. He’s a valuable piece to a team needing a second or 3rd receiver. Receiver salaries are through the roof, so he will definitely get paid somewhere around 10+ million a season.

^ This. 700+ year in and year out is going to command that type of money (or close to it).
Targets
Reale01 : 8/1/2024 2:59 pm : link
He has been very productive with limited targets. I do not know if the targets are limited because he is not open? If he had WR1 number of targets he would have WR1 stats. I am not saying he is a number 1 WR - but someone may see an upside.
Slayton
stretch234 : 8/1/2024 3:18 pm : link
On good teams he is fighting for no3 snaps. On the Giants he was the 1. If Hyatt takes expected step Slayton is the 4 here
Nabers looks like the goods as a true #1
gersh : 8/1/2024 4:09 pm : link
WanDale is already a very good slot WR
Slayton is an experienced WR who makes for a solid #2 or 3 WR
Hyatt is very fast and has good hands and will
Only get better
Slayton is not a #1
section125 : 8/1/2024 4:13 pm : link
WR. You can see the difference. What Slayton is, is the guy that bites your ass when you pay too much attention to a guy like Nabers or Robinson. Next thing you know he is down the sideline with a safety trailing with no chance to catch up.
Slayton Fixed His Problem with Drops
OntheRoad : 8/2/2024 12:18 am : link

He no longer has below average hands.
