New York Giants Training Camp Updates - August 1, 2024

I still find it hilarious how NFL teams only practice once a day. We used to have two and three a days for football starting at 6AM. And i understand how they work out, meetings, film, all that in a day as well. I had the same in college when I played but we also had days where we had 2 practices on top of film and weight room. Back in 2011 in college we would practice in the morning, then watch film on that practice, then go practice a few hours later to correct things from the first practice. But to only practice once a day for 2 hours is hilarious to me at the NFl in TRAINING camp.

That's the least of it. In season, team are allowed 11 total padded practices over the first 11 weeks and then 3 the rest of the way.

Teams can only practice in pads every other week in the most crucial six weeks of the season.

And the NFL wonders why everyone is getting hurt so bad.

game is completely soft now.

At all levels.

One of the reasons OL play and tackling is bad because these kids start with flag football and don't learn how to properly block or tackle until HS.

The NFL should have 2 a days, a padded practice and a walkthrough/shells. I wouldn't be shocked if padded practices are eliminated or reduced when 18 games becomes the norm.

My prediction on Boykin making the 53 is looking good. On the other hand, Adams may be ahead of Coughlin.

#Giants100 Ghobrial - findamentals and technique win games....muscle memory is top priority of everything we do

that the lack of practice time is one of the causes of so many injuries. The highest risk time for me in any sport is when I start playing again a relatively long layoff. The best solution to that is practice - a chance to reintegrate the physical demands on the body without the adrenaline rush of game day.

The other big cause is body mass caused by roids and weightlifting. Guys are stronger/faster, but skeletal/connective tissue structure is the same.

DC Shane Bowen thinks the players accepted his challenge when they left after spring football. He has seen good “recall” and players start to separate themselves. “It’s still early, but time is ticking.” The week with Detroit will be telling.

#Giants100 Bowen - flott and mcloud are versatile....mcloud playing a few positions...flott hasnt had much work outside in the past - he's done a good job there so far.

Boykin, Adams, BFW, Owens, Manhertz all getting praise.

DC Shane Bowen thinks CB Cor’Dale Flott has done a good job playing on the outside. Much like most of his young secondary he’s just looking for more consistency.

The biggest issue to me os the amount of rest time in all sports. They feel most injuries are from overuse instead of realizing that most injuries are not from overuse but rather going 0 to 100. Look at pitchers in MLB. The new age changes they have made have been horrible for muscles and tendons imo

Bowen also makes clear that Flott is outside CB to get his reps and compete at an unfamiliar spot but that it’s a competition and nothing is settled there. Emphasizes how many corners they already have added multiple times

..that is when this stuff happens...got to work thru it and work more at it - it is about timing and familiarity

Shane Bowen said they’re not planning to move any of the edge rushers inside on passing downs. He’s really encouraged by the competition among D-linemen for the spot next to Dexter Lawrence.

Tyler Nubin returning to practice today.
Greg Van Roten will play center with Jon Runyan at LG and Aaron Stinnie at RG.

JMS will be center when he returns. Just way to get GVR on the field. #Giants100

notable here is that bowen had a lot of success developing amani hooker. he was on titans defensive staff when he was drafted in 2019 when he was a backup as a rookie. he was there when he started contributing more in his second season (3 starts) and then when he became defensive coordinator he moved him in as a full time starter.

belton was hooker's replacement at iowa at their "cash" position after he got drafted in 2019.

Greg Van Roten will begin practicing at center today, per Brian Daboll, and also at guard. JMS is still out. Runyan will play a lot of left guard. Daboll says all of this cross-training of players at center has nothing to do with confidence in JMS. Just his health. Tyler Nubin is practicing today for first time, per Daboll. Carter Coughlin is out with a lower body injury. Dexter Lawrence will do something
