Jones is on the extreme short end of the recovery window. It's pretty impressive he's out there on-track to start with no limitations on August 1. That he's working his way back into shape and rhythm should be no surprise to anyone.
The real answers to the questions will come over time -- say the first half of the season. Can he deliver the ball to all depths of the field in a variety of scenarios consistently?
In honesty he has always been A+ for effort. Problem is he has been C- for production.
And the OL production has been a 'D' at best, maybe even an 'F'. It matters...
Nabers, Hyatt, Theo, Banks, Nubin, Phillips, Tracy, Dyontae Johnson..
I also feel like the OL has a shot at not being a disaster with the 3 vet starters they’ve added. Eluemunor is going to surprise some people if he stays at RT..

That ball should quiet the arm strength may layers. He looks like he threw that from the left hash mark to the right sideline of the end zone from 50 plus yards out.
Jones’ arm strength isn’t being questioned, it’s his long range accuracy. And that TD pass to Malik was short. Watch the video again. Jones was lucky Flott was beat badly.

Giants Training Camp Day 7 thoughts
•Greg Van Roten practicing at Center after Runyan did for 2 days is eye roll worthy
Why would that be "eye roll worthy?" Bricillo wants to see what he has as backup centers. Runyan and Van Roten are vets that can afford a day at center.
I thought same thing.

Ok Mr Nit Picky...he doesn't have to have a perfect over the shoulder pass when his guy is 4 yards open in the EZ. The danger is overthrowing and having it go OB or through the EZ. In fact it was a perfect pass, it was easily caught and well clear of Flott.

Greg Van Roten said he had his best year with Carmen Bricillo. Not a lot of OL coaches are “in tune” with the whole offense as Bricillo. He does a good job of marrying the run and pass schemes.

I still find it hilarious how NFL teams only practice once a day. We used to have two and three a days for football starting at 6AM. And i understand how they work out, meetings, film, all that in a day as well. I had the same in college when I played but we also had days where we had 2 practices on top of film and weight room. Back in 2011 in college we would practice in the morning, then watch film on that practice, then go practice a few hours later to correct things from the first practice. But to only practice once a day for 2 hours is hilarious to me at the NFl in TRAINING camp.
That's the least of it. In season, team are allowed 11 total padded practices over the first 11 weeks and then 3 the rest of the way.
Teams can only practice in pads every other week in the most crucial six weeks of the season.
And the NFL wonders why everyone is getting hurt so bad.
Who's getting hurt more than usual? It's smart because it limits the amount of wear and tear on the players since it's a 17 week season.
There was an enormous spike in ACL tears the first year of the new CBA (2020). Concussions went way up too. Injuries increased markedly after Covid; a study concluded that was due to canceling pre-season.

I feel like people don't use common sense anymore. If someone is going to run a marathon, do they just sit on their ass and go run one or do they have to train to get their body to that point? If you are going to run a sprint, do you walk up and run one or do you warm up first? There is too much rest and going from 0 to 100 for these athletes.

Not to jinx us, but the last lineman I remember moving to the NY area b/c of location (in this case b/c of proximity to cancer treatment for his son) had, let's say, mixed results at OT
@art_stapleton
I asked Van Roten about the timing of his signing, considering he is coming off his best season of his career at age 34. His desire to keep playing was never in doubt, he just wanted the right opportunity, which is why they waited. GVR believes he has "years" left, not just one more.

Absolutely. The players say the same thing. And the year I saw data for (21 I think), 58% of injuries happened pre-season and something like 25% games 1-4.
The NFLPA represents vets first and foremost, who have a whole year's pay riding on making it to opening day healthy. Plus, "old school" vets would prefer to skip camp. The NFL gets no pre-season revenue. It adds up to a bad deal for fans that isn't likely to be reversed.

It was a TD and I think if Jones had to scramble and completed a 50 yarder (off platform) to the 2 yard line we would all be quite happy...well most of us.

That is exactly what I was talking about on the Podcast. That was a horrible throw by Jones. Tracy has to turn around to get it, making all momentum come to a stop.
Eric, I know YOU know this - QBs are coached to err on the underthrow side on long balls. Overthrows are guaranteed incomplete or picks.
Pretend it was DeVito who threw it. Or Mahomes. Maybe it was shorter than intended if he could have it back. Or not.
The grand total of BBIers who'd bitch if Mahomes threw that completion is precisely equal to the number predicting an MVP season for Jones.
They have signed a number of veteran CBs.
Quote:
That they are able to turn back and catch these under thrown balls. But it does appear that our corners are getting badly beaten. Have to believe a vet signing will happen at some point soon?

I was thinking about one of the more established vets. Howard, Jackson, Gilmore et al
But some of this is the back-and-forth nature of camp. If Nabers wasn't beating Cor'Dale Flott, we'd be pretty concerned about Nabers.
On the second throw, the only DB in the picture is Dane Belton.
Also, Bowen just praised Flott this morning.
@DDuggan21
New ST coordinator Michael Ghobrial has some creative drills. Here he had punt returners stand with their backs to the line and turn to find the ball after it was kicked. Isaiah McKenzie handled it smoothly.
With McKenzie and Gunner Olszewski, the Giants have two quality NFL returners after so many years of trying (unsuccessfully) to patch the position together.

Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled with the WR group. Maybe the best raw talent as a group that this franchise has ever had? But Flott still feels like a slot or nickel corner to me. As does Phillips. And not sure at all about Hawkins, Johnson, Long, Owens et al. It is frankly my only major concern other than injury depth for this defense.

You do realize that Nabers was doing the same thing to Banks
- perhaps not 4 yards open but still open. It isn't just Flott. Naber was doing this in the SEC too.
Also it is a new defense, so there still may be communication breakdowns between CBs and safeties.

And we should keep our eye on McCloud. He’s been having a good camp.
