What would the Giants be losing? What do the Giants have going for them right now that would be risked or sacrificed by this approach? I would think it would only benefit the key pillars of the roster (Lawrence, Burns, Thibodeaux, Okereke, Banks, and Nabers).
Daboll has a shot at being an excellent HC, possibly for decades to come. BB would be the oldest HC in NFL history by his second season here. How long can he/will he want to continue to coach. Then the floundering starts all over
In short, what you potentially risk losing is stability.
Dak is very underrated.
He gets a bad rap for not winning in the playoffs.
He is a premier in-season QB, and the Giants as constructed would win 10-12 games.
My concern would be how much money Zak will demand. There is a point where he can outprice himself.
Zak is looking for more than $60,000,000 per year and a (5) year contract. If he were to fail that could cripple a team.
Zak would be the best alternative among free-agent QBs but he is 31.
I don't underrate DP. He seems to have found his ceiling. A fine regular season QB who is unable replicate that in the playoffs.
Credit to him and his team for maximizing his earnings potential. They've nailed it, like Team Cousins.
But his asking price is too much for the expected ROI.
I'd rather Schoen find some GM smelling salts and draft a QB.
If Jones underwhelms as many expect, Schoen will have to decide if he really wants to go balls to the wall and go get the top QB in the next draft (Carson Beck??).
If Jones underwhelms as many expect, Schoen will have to decide if he really wants to go balls to the wall and go get the top QB in the next draft (Carson Beck??).
Wouldn't that be forcing the QB? That's the exact thing we're supposedly not supposed to do.

It could be. I think it really depends on how Beck performs. I think he has tools to work with. Yes his knock will be playing with elite talent, but in the SEC, you play against elite talent on most weeks (Sorry Vandy). BW could speak more to this, but I think Beck *could* be as good if not better than Maye, who was my guy at QB this past draft.
$60m with a 2-5 playoff with a very talented team over a 27 yr old 1-1 in playoffs at 1 year guaranteed? I think you are crazy. I’ll take the young guy.
What would the Giants be losing? What do the Giants have going for them right now that would be risked or sacrificed by this approach? I would think it would only benefit the key pillars of the roster (Lawrence, Burns, Thibodeaux, Okereke, Banks, and Nabers).
I gave it some thought last week and decided my main desire this season is that Daboll survives it. I think he’s a talented coach in a difficult situation and I hope he makes it to 2025.
A turning-73 Belichick isn’t something to look forward to. It’s like Lombardi and the Redskins.

How will we get Beck, though? Carolina's almost mutually assured of picking #1 overall.

You do realize that they drafted Bryce Young number 1 last year

I’m not breaking news here when I say most places you look either will have or currently have the NYG among the 5-7 worst teams in the league. Of those teams predicted to not be successful, the Titans are the 1 I would look at as primary competitors for whomever emerges as QB1 next year. The rest of the teams seemingly have their QB.

I'd pump the breaks on Beck. He's got some talent, but behind that OL last year and throwing to Bowers and McConkey would be a luxury for a lot of D1 QBs.
IMV, this QB class has to really evolve before we say there are legit lottery prospects.
I have high expectations this season of 10 wins. I don’t think Daboll will get fired unless it’s a 5 win season with no major injuries.
I don’t want Dak and his $50 million plus contract. He’s not a bad QB but he is also not a top QB. He hasn’t won a big game in his career despite having a top team. His record against winning teams isn’t great either. Dak has compiled stats against the terrible Giants and terrible Washington teams for years. He has been surrounded by top 5 talent at OL, Wr & TE. He is Kirk Cousins, good but not good enough. If DJ fails this season like many think then we will again be in position to draft a QB and we should.
The parallel isn’t precise but he’s an expensive short-term fix who is unlikely to take the Giants anywhere worth the price.
Words can hardly express how much I hate the idea of Dak on the Giants. I would root for him but he fails I’d chip in for a plane to fly a banner over the stadium.
As for Belichik, I don’t hate the idea but I would prefer Daboll succeed. If Daboll goes, I don’t think Belichik is the solution. But if the Giants have a bad 2024, Belichik may be a bad idea whose time has come.
I don't think the Giants are building anything sustainable either way, either with BB/Dak or the current track. I'm just very confident the short-term W/L record will be better with BB/Dak, and not just by a game or two.
Most likely scenario, though, is this:
2024: 7-10ish with current setup
2025: 7-10ish with current setup
2026: Clean house. If Arch Manning is a college success and we're within range to get him, we go for it.
As HC a guy who stopped winning, made poor personnel decisions and lost track of any semblance of normalcy in his personal life , and the discarded quarterback of one of your division rivals?
Pass. Prescott would have soiled himself playing behind the Giants ’ offensive line of recent vintage . I’m not saying that the current regime will be successful in permanently restoring this franchise . But If it does fall apart I would want nothing to do with advocating for Belichick & Prescott .
The unfortunate situation is that as of now, no great QB prospects are available in the draft.
This can, and will likely change, but it does not appear there are any QBs the stature of the first three last year.
If the Giants determine that they are one QB away from being a contender then Dak should be in consideration.
in on the defense and change up the offensive philosophy to a more run oriented scheme primarily with the RB's. Finish his great career building one last great defense with the franchise it all started for him.
Rookie QB with Veteran as a stop gap. Someone a lot cheaper with without the long term commitment. Jones could factor in here as the stop gap depending how things go this year. Obviously, the Giants would have to not meet expectations this season.
BP is again very close with him. He may wind up being a big part in where the other Bill goes imv.
Dak Prescott is going to be paid by Jerry at the end of the season. Dak Prescott will be paid more than Love in Green Bay, and the Giants won't be in the mix at all.
I still haven't given up on Brian Daboll on the HC side of this ridiculous rumour. Belichick will go on to coach another team, which may wind up being the Philadelphia Eagles, since I think their HC is on very thin ice this season. If and when Hurts is injured, their HC will be under the gun, and their brain dead, toothless, inbred fans, along with the rabid Philly sports media will be calling for Nick's head on a plate. I could see BB wind up in Philly next season.
He gets a bad rap for not winning in the playoffs.

My concern would be how much money Zak will demand. There is a point where he can outprice himself.

There's good interesting and bad interesting.
LOL
I’d rather they find the QB in the next draft and keep building with the coach we have now. I think that’s the better path.

I agree with this. But the way they try to find the QB, it could be a decade before they even draft one.

And I would take Jones at $35MM/1 year, over Dak at $240MM/4 years.
If Jones underwhelms as many expect, Schoen will have to decide if he really wants to go balls to the wall and go get the top QB in the next draft (Carson Beck??).
Wouldn't that be forcing the QB? That's the exact thing we're supposedly not supposed to do.

I like it. You sound like Yoda.
far more likely is that Jerry Jones decides to go all in on Belichick in Dallas if McCarthy leads another disappointing postseason.
the best outcome from NYG is Daboll proving he's worth keeping, if he doesn't then pivoting to belichick or vrabel is obvious.

Upgrade on the coach down grade on the QB I’d leave it at 6.5

I don't think BB will coach here, either.
But I firmly believe he wants to surpass Shula for most wins. So, I wouldn't rule out a return somewhere in the NFL.

Same here. BB maybe makes sense for a win now team, but not for us. Dak at that price doesn't make any sense, draft a young QB.
Give him credit. He's found a place to promote that idiocy plus some to run with it.
