Apologies for not remembering who said it, but somebody posted something this week that resonated with me. They said the 2022 and 23 seasons were basically a continuation of the season openers. While I do think Daboll righted the ship last year, I agree with the sentiment.
I assume most Giants fans after last year’s opener have their guard up. “Show me first”
The last two days were a lot of fun to follow along with and we’re all longing for the Giants to be respectable again. This team has the potential to establish a new identity on both sides of the ball. What’s it going to take for you to let your guard down and be “all in” with this group?
First quarter of the season…second? Wins vs quality opponent? Wins vs Dallas and Philly? 2025?
No chance until there’s a new QB? Head coach? Owner…haha.
I like that. I think a win over Dak and Dallas would go a long way for me too!
I actually attended that week 1 game and spent about the first half pretty mad but I just left before halftime and then I realized it's better they familiarized us that these are the New York Giants right away and they're not a top team. The team played way over their heads in 2022.
Oh yeah, I was at the opener against Tennessee in 2022, probably in my top 5 Giants games ever attended.
Whether the Giants win or lose, I’ll always be watching every game and rooting hard for their success. My opinion on whether I think the team will have a good year or a bad year, has absolutely nothing to do with me being “all in”.
Week 1 is weird and an outlier sometimes so 0-1 is fine but 0-2 is a death nail.
Not falling for pre-season BS like I did last year.
It's football, not life support. Enjoy the game.
That's as far as I'm letting my guard down.
"I'm all in" next season 2025.
Unbridled fandom sure
Confident we are a great football team....Ha!
I'm operating under the semi-serious belief we are cursed on the OL. The level of play we've seen is pretty much unheard of at the NFL level.
Mark Collins was on a podcast last year saying he'd never seen an OL play that bad at any level. What they were doing was almost unexplainably bad - like they had absolutely no idea how to play football.
If that continues, we're doomed. If they get back to plain old "NFL subpar" I'll let my guard down.
They also moved on from coaches they selected that turned out to be poor choices.
I expect a rough start to the season due to all the coaching changes, but what I want is clear improvement as the season moves forward. From what I have seen so far, the players are "all in" on Daboll.

Word.
When do you believe a class can be fairly assessed? Sophomore season? Junior?
If the OP is asking when we think the Giants can actually compete or whatever with the top teams; well when they actually compete and start consistently beating the better teams.
Personally I really couldn't care less what happened in the past. I certainly don't care that much about what happened 5-10 years ago. In fact, the only season I really care about is the upcoming season. And I am really looking forward to the season. In particular, I am looking forward to seeing whether Nabers is the real deal; I am looking forward to seeing whether Burns is the real deal and whether we might just have one of the more dominant pass rushes in the league; and I am looking forward to seeing if Jones can actually step up and establish himself as a legit starting QB in the league now that he appears to finally have some legit weapons.
I think I also understand that it is a process. You just don't go from 4 wins to 14 in 2-3 years. And it is seldom a straight line to get there. Tou're going to have ups along the way, but you're also going to have downs. People keeping talking about George Young and what he did for the Giants coming out of the 1970s but they tend to forget that the Giants were something like 25-45 in his first 5 years including 3-12-1 in his 5th season.
Whether the Giants win or lose, I’ll always be watching every game and rooting hard for their success. My opinion on whether I think the team will have a good year or a bad year, has absolutely nothing to do with me being “all in”.
This
Any fan who makes their loyalty contingent on how well they play is not a true fan

No implications Jim. I’m not interested in litigating the levels of fandom. I appreciate your perspective. I assume there’s parts of this team (FO, staff, players) you’re more critical of than others. What would it take from this group to make you reconsider the aspects you’re most critical of?

Love this!
That's as far as I'm letting my guard down.
Here we go! Void of emotion of course!
Lofty. I respect it.
Interesting. More of a crawl before we walk vs Dallas?
"I'm all in" next season 2025.
This is fair. Care to elaborate on what “well” means to you?
I know how I felt watching the game on TV. I can only imagine how much more guarded I’d be having been there in person.
You hated the Fassel years then huh?
Agreed. Remember how wonderful it was watching TC and his staff developing young talent. Desperately want to get back there. And pray the career altering injuries that wreck everything finally subsides!
It's football, not life support. Enjoy the game.
Exactly. Football is way more important.
Yeah but there are other sports going on at the beginning of football season. For example, the Giants start at the year 0-6 again, will become the central focus down the stretch and playoff time.

By all accounts, the offense last year in training camp and that one drive in the pre-season game mostly with Jones and Waller were through the roof with positivity only for them to shit the bed Week 1 and practically the entire season. I also went to the Week 1 game against the Cowboys, so I'm sure that doesn't help, but I have to see it in the regular season before I buy into it.

Yep, that was just about the worst game I ever sat through. Add in the pouring rain, and the stadium emptying out, I felt like I was in a LOTR battle scene with the Orcs

Until this team proves they can go 2 seasons in a row without being a shitshow, I'm pretty much checked out.
You hated the Fassel years then huh?
The Fassel Giants weren't anywhere close to being in the 10+ year shithole they're in now. This franchise has been in 70s territory recently.
There is never a reason to keep your guard up or be suspicious or be worried or be any other thing that keeps you from enjoying this game.
The things that people on this forum worry about are beyond their control.
There are far too many people who have far too high opinion of their own opinions.
Enjoy the game.
Football is life.
Let's go Yankees
(Especially If the Giants are not doing well)
In over fifty years of watching Giants football, my guard has never, ever been down.
