LB Dyontae Johnson is considered week to week with an ankle sprain. A tough blow. He’s made a strong impression in training camp + preseason.
The undrafted rookie out of Toledo has received some first-team reps this summer. Had a sack and key third-down tackle vs. Lions.

The post-game injury reports were wildly optimistic.

Bad timing for a player on the bubble to miss time
Even I don't remember that about Armstead... holy crap, imagine if they had cut him!
I do remember when they drafted the "little" linebacker coming off a serious injury (I think it was an ACL).

How to tell us you don’t know what you’re watching without actually saying you don’t know what you’re watching. Might be time to move on to another sport.
If we needed any more proof to never pay attention to Dan again, this is it. On the bubble?
I was literally about to post that exact same thing.
Point being - they will likely give him some more chances than another UFA
Hope it’s not a lingering ankle. If it were a starter, they would just rest him til fully healed.

I thought that was Adams, but I may be mistaken.
Yes it does.
Are you 13 years old? Geez...
Brian Burns, Malik Nabers, Andrew Thomas, Banks, Dex, Thibs, Slay, Gano.... are these not "nice things" as you and most 13 year olds say?
Otherwise. SUCK.
That said, on balance across the team, after a real game you can't expect much better injury news that a couple week to weeks.
I thought he was the best player on Defense, so i hope they find a way to keep him around. It's a long season.

Have gotten a bunch of tweets like this about Johnson (well, actually not like this, the others haven’t been unnecessarily hostile). Let’s break down the LB situation:
Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden are locked in as the starters. They gave Matthew Adams $967K guaranteed and he’s a lock due to special teams. They gave Carter Coughlin $367K guaranteed and he’s another proven core ST player. They drafted Darius Muasau in the sixth round, so that’s obviously a boost to his stock and he’s been a starting core ST in camp.
Johnson has looked good in camp while getting 1’s reps with McFadden/Coughlin missing time and looked great against backups vs. Detroit. But if he misses a week or two, he’s absolutely not a lock.

The Giants gave Bobby McCain guaranteed money last year too and they ended up cutting him during the season.
I get what Duggan is getting at, but at some point, talent has to win out.

Lighten up Francis.

Give the post-game locker room “speech” (Giants on three….)

I’m sure you’re right. I was listening and not watching and somehow thought it was Dyontae.

I sincerely doubt this guy is "on the bubble." I have no doubt he makes the team.
Let's just hope that the Giants' trainers actually diagnosed it correctly.
it matters is a roundabout way which is that they didnt give him the money for no reason - there are things those guys do that they value. and sometimes its stuff thats not so obvious to us (like a specific role on ST or something like that).
if they think johnson is as good as he appeared the other day though and a legitimate competitor with mcfadden, it wont matter. he will make the team.
Agree with this. Adams or Coughlin, maybe but not both. On the other hand Muasau I think is more likely. 5 ILB isn’t out of the question.

I didn't know that. I thought the rule was still that if you went on IR before the season you couldn't play that year, unless it was for another team after being waived off of IR.
The other “DJ” is a BEAST IN THE MAKING!
In plain words, the new rule allows teams the ability to place two players on injured reserve at the roster cutdown deadline to return during the season. That has not been the case in the past with the NFL; if a player went on injured reserve before the active 53-man roster is set, he was out for the season.

But I’m pretty sure you have to include them in your 53

Aren't high ankle sprains usually 4-6 weeks?
Obviously depends on severity though.
But I’m pretty sure you have to include them in your 53
The way I read it, not having to put the two IR'd players on the initial 53 is the whole point:
The new rule means the Lions can put one or two players on I.R. at the deadline and still be able to bring them back during the season without having to cut someone like Reynolds, who was waived knowing that he would be re-signed in a day (which he was).

Don’t forget about Beavers.
Agreed. This sounds like a very manageable problem.
PUP is not an option because he has practiced.
IR is now an option (under new rules, for up to two players) without having to put him on the initial 53. You can read up the thread for that.
