NFT: US Basketball Vs France For the Gold Medal

Jon In NYC : 8/10/2024 12:54 pm
Feel like this is the best possible outcome for a gold medal match. Host nation with young superstar going against the Monstars including Embiid who left them hanging. Shades of Space Jam if Wemby can pull this off.

Embiid
Lebron
Durant
Booker
Curry

the starters. I like adding Durant to the starting group. Jrue was doing absolutely nothing out there.

I'm rooting for the U.S. but future Knicks legend Mathias Lessort outplaying Embiid would be unbelievable to watch.

In all seriousness, him just playing well against some combination of AD/Bam/Embiid would be enough to give him the Knicks' taxpayer exception imo. Hopefully they don't decide to play Gobert primarily again (they definitely might). And even if he doesn't shine I still think he's done enough to take a flier on.

One pick away.

I have a buddy from The Bay who has met Steph a bunch of times & he raves about him personally...says he's a really good dude who is super generous with his time & whatever. I've always liked Curry going back to Davidson so that anecdote makes me an even bigger fan.
And let us say

I think from a Knicks fan point of view, it was one of the unlikable
Anakim : 8/10/2024 6:27 pm : link
USA teams. LeBron, Embiid, Haliburton, Curry (more the fact that you hate that he didn't end up a Knick), Tatum, White, Bam

But we take home the gold! USA is #1
LeBron with the Tourney MVP
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 8/10/2024 6:30 pm : link
He was easily the best Team USA player from the start of the tournament to the end. Doing a bit of everything. 2nd in scoring on the team with 4 less total points than Steph, but by far the leading Assist man who ran the offense. Also leading team in Rebounds and FG%. And playing some great defense and being a monster in transition. One of the GOAT athletes to ever live.

Steph with 60 points on 17 threes the final 2 games including the finishing touches with that legendary heat check at the end today. If he wasn’t so bad earlier in the Tourney, he probably wins MVP honors. Still, he gave us a performance we’ll never forget in the last 2 games.

SanFran. Curry is Magic/Bird tier for me. I’d still rate him slightly behind Magic but he certainly has an argument. As high as possibly 6/7 all-time but more in that 10-15 range as of now imo.
2028 will be interesting if France or Serbia develop another star
ajr2456 : 8/10/2024 6:30 pm : link
The US will likely be without Lebron, KD, Steph and probably AD/Embiid
Osi..
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 8/10/2024 6:34 pm : link
Yeah, I think I'd put him in that 10-15 range, though probably closer to 15 than 10.

MJ, LBJ, Kareem, Russell, Magic, Bird, Dream, Duncan, Big O, Wilt...probably top 10 off the top of my head. Then it's Moses, Shaq, Curry, West, Kobe in some order.

Good. Pass the torch to dudes like Tatum, Edwards, Paolo, & the others. I suspect Flagg will be on the '28 team too if he's all they're making him out to be.

Yeah, you're potentially looking at a team headed by Edwards/Tatum/Brunson. Maybe Cooper Flagg. Against guys like Wemby and Jokic? It'll be REALLY tough.
One thing is certain.

The gap between the U.S. and the rest of the world in basketball has shrunken dramatically. The games are more competitive than ever. U.S. pros are no longer a mortal lock in international competition. There are a lot of very fine international players and teams.
I hope the Knicks invite Lessort to TC

The development of Chet/Brandon Miller will be huge.

I think the 2028 team likely looks something like

Brunson/ Haliburton/Ja
Edwards/Maxey/Brown
Tatum/Flagg/
Miller/Paolo
Chet/ probably Bam

I’m not sure who you take as the second center if Embiid, Bam and Davis don’t play. Naz Reid?

Paolo is a wildcard. He could play for Italy.
The France starting lineup in 2028 I would assume is
ajr2456 : 8/10/2024 7:06 pm : link
VW, Sarr, Risacher, Coulibaly, Traore

If Sard and Risacher both pan out that’s a tough out.

His dad wasn’t even born in Italy (from what I can tell). I don’t see him turning down an offer to play for the USA to play for Italy.

We’ll see if they’ll be better. If Mahluch is the real deal I wouldn’t be surprised to see South Sudan have a shot to make it out of group stage next time if they can develop some guard play. Taylor Bowen and the Mabil kid who plays for OSL and NY Lightning are high end talent

Maybe Zion if he's healthy, or Evan Mobley...or Jarrett Allen? They'll need someone to match up with Jokic and Wemby.

Gotta think Scottie Barnes will have an excellent chance to be on that team. And no reason to not think Booker will be back, right? He'll be in what? Early 30's in 2028?

I'd move Moses out of top 10 and replace him with both Shaq and Kobe.
One name to throw in the 18-20 besides Kevin Syrant would be Dennis Rodman

we needed every Gold we could get.

I'll miss Olympic basketball. It's like if college basketball was actually good. The energy with March Madness is always awesome but the product is just garbage to watch. Whereas the NBA Playoffs are filled with incredible levels of play but the flow can easily be unbearable with FTs. This was like a perfect mix of both and with KD/LeBron/Curry bringing an era to a close, it was just awesome basketball.

Cool to see those 3 all-time greats all get a nice little boost with bringing the Gold home. Durant (4 Golds now!), LeBron (Flagbearer + MVP of Tourney), and Curry (Legendary Semis/Finals + 1st Gold).

There have been so many great videos with all these players and fans during these Olympics. LeBron has a lot. Curry/Ant, all of them were having a good time. Devin Booker being such a low key stud this whole Olympics all around has me becoming a fan of him for sure. Great vlogs from him. To focus on one video where guys are celebrating and tipsy at best is dumb.

The way LeBron talked to that kid was totally uncalled for. I’m sorry. It’s part of being a celebrity and being a billionaire. The kid will probably never be that close to LeBron ever again. And he talked to him like he didn’t even exist.

It’s a horrible horrible look.
