practice squad problems

Hilary : 8/10/2024 4:01 pm
The giants will have decisions to make at cut down time.
Some of the players such as DeVito, Tyree Jackson, Dante Miller and Jake Kubas Darius Muasau Gervarious Owen that they might want to put on the practice squad will be poached. They may need to have Tyrone Tracey be a return person for punts and kickoff to save spots. I would not risk DeVito he may not have Lock's guaranteed money but he is a better player. I think Miller could be a weapon and Jackson has more upside as an all around tight end than Cager. He is 6'7 260 with exceptionally long arms.
We just taped

DeVito is making the

final 53.

But to your point, this is a very good thing to have these problems.
If they cut Lock

Does a claiming team jave to commit to the 5 million or is it an offset situation? He is not likely to be claimed if they would owe 5 million.

I don't think he will be cut ... just curious.

Exactly!

Zero chance of a cut. He has already worked with the new ST coordinator and was a blue label player on Hard Knocks. Made a couple plays Thursday. Rookie draft pick.

Don't know the rules, but if he's claimed from our PS it would suck for the Giants to have to continue to have to pay his prorated salary.
Lock

Would trade for a 7th in a heartbeat
2 Million of Lock's 5 has already been paid
WillieYoung : 8/10/2024 4:39 pm : link
teams claiming him on waivers has to assume remaining 3. If he clears waivers we're stuck with the 3 if he signs elsewhere subject only to any offset in his contract which would likely give us only veteran minimum.

Honestly I think the Lions would be an ideal trade partner for Lock.
I’m wondering: If Giant players are so good to poach
JohnB : 8/10/2024 5:36 pm : link
why don’t they win more?

I think the new additions are better than what we had before, but I’m not sure other teams are drooling to get our bottom of the barrel players.

If a team claims him off waivers, they are on the hook for his salary. If he cleared waivers, he’d be free to sign with any team for the league minimum, with the Giants paying the difference.
You guys are wrong on Lock
Rudy5757 : 8/10/2024 6:11 pm : link
If the Giants cut him he is a Free Agent and doesn’t go the waiver process. He can sign with any team and depending on his contract with the Giants, if there is or isn’t offset money. If there is offset the giants owe the difference if there isn’t the Giants owe the full contract no matter how much Lock signs for.

I wouldn’t make any judgements on the QBs unless DeVito starts taking 2nd team reps when both are healthy. It’s not like DeVito lit it up, it wasn’t a good performance by either QB, DeVito was less bad.

People may be right on Lock, or they may be wrong. Impossible to know right now. The true idiocy is that people want to cut him based on 1 quarter of action in Preseason Game #1. But....thats BBI. No matter how much you tell some people to not overreact to what you see in camp and preseason game, it seems many are ready to jettison Lock and have further proclaimed that this is now a 9-10 win team...based on one decent preseason game. Amazing.

two things:

1) The Giants have players good enough to poach this year. They didn’t last year. We don’t know how many wins they will have this season.

2) I think right now the Giants’ roster is “bottom heavy.” They have greatly improved their depth at multiple positions. They seem—so far—to lack stars, but their bench is solid.

Hopefully Nabers, Wandale Robinson, Hyatt, Banks, Nubin and some of the other young players emerge at the top end of the roster.
In case of a tie, Jackson
KeoweeFan : 8/11/2024 11:26 am : link
has the advantage of being the 3rd (emergency) QB, allowing the team to carry only two at that position.
It seems like
pjcas18 : 8/11/2024 12:01 pm : link
every year around this time people say "the Giants are going to cut a good player" does it ever happen when the Giants actually do cut that player that they wind up on another roster and develop into a legitimate contributor?

Even if the roster is better than prior years, I wouldn't get to twisted up about the 54th player or the PS guys who get shuffled around.

Can one or two turn into really good players, sure, but that's a gamble I can live with.

Here are my thoughts
5BowlsSoon : 8/11/2024 4:30 pm : link
1. Cutlets makes 53
2. All 4 RBs make 53
3. I’d rather Tyree make 53 over Cager, but maybe Tyree wouldn’t get poached from PS
4. Chatman deserves 53
5. Casey Rogers is impressing me…not sure he makes 53 and being a UDFA, he might not get poached
6. All draft choices will make the 53
7. If we need to cut players to make room, cut WRs- Hodgins, Robinson, all those kids can go to the PS
8. Probably have to cut one- Stoll or Manhertz…not sure which one.
9. DL is the most confusing….but Chatman is a must keep, don’t want to take the chance of losing him…
I think DeVito makes the final roster
Matt M. : 8/11/2024 5:41 pm : link
so as not to subject him to the PS. I do not think they cut or Trade Lock, regardless. With a QB with an injury history like Jones, you need 3 QBs.

I think they may end up keeping all 4 RBs, but I am not so certain an odd man out would be scooped up so quickly. Same goes for Tyree Jackson.
And, I don't think Owens is in danger of the PS
Matt M. : 8/11/2024 5:42 pm : link
They need depth.

We have idiot posters who think JJ McCarthy should be a starter in MN based on a couple of series against a bunch of guys who will probably be unemployed in a few weeks.

The stupidly knows no bounds, unfortunately…
