#Giants DL coach Patterson - burns has all the skills and he has a very strong desire to be better ...could be as great as any edge rusher he has worked with...when you have three dawgs up front, you are ahead of 90% of the league
Falato was at camp; he said there's no way Chatman is 6'. NTTATWT
Being the strongest guy on a team with Dexter Lawerence .... damn.

Daboll said Evan Neal is coming off PUP. John Michael Schmitz will be eased back in starting today. Lawrence Cager and Jack Stoll are also coming back.
Eric, for Giants Info and History, the start of a new era: August 11, 2024. Evan Neal comes off PUP.
:)
@art_stapleton
John Michael Schmitz will return to practice today. Expect him to do individuals and ease his way back in to team drills, but likely not for a day or two.
Expect Greg Van Roten to start getting RG reps with JMS on the way back. #Giants100
Don’t expect Neal back in team drills. He will do individuals and work his way back into team drills. This should not change Giants’ alignment up front with the first team. Jermaine Eluemunor is the RT.
@art_stapleton
Dennis Houston is on the sideline with his right hand/wrist in a cast. #Giants100
I hope so
I hope so
Joe Klecko was Defensive Player of the Year.
So no, Chatman is not going to be another Klecko.

Klecko was quite a bit heavier, wasn't he. He was a monster up front.
Chatman probably a PS candidate.
Gotta love it.

Gotta love it.
Obviously it's a massive leap. Klecko lasted 6 rounds; were BBI around back then anyone saying he'd become an all-time great (or even a starter) would have been ridiculed. Why be a dick about it?
@charlottecrrll
And here’s John Michael Schmitz back out at practice #Giants

Sure, and Daniel Jones could be our Steve Young
6th round.
So?
4th.

My bad. I Googled his son Joe.
@art_stapleton
Greg Van Roten takes first two reps at C, shifts to RG for next three with Schlottmann coming in at C as planned.
First guard reps for GVR a sign JMS is coming along.
@art_stapleton
Lawrence Cager (hamstring) is back at practice. Just caught a red zone TD from Tommy DeVito.
On the previous play, Tyree Jackson took a clean pop from Tyler Nubin for PBU at the goal line.

Greg Van Roten got his first RG reps today since signing. He started at center during a first-team period and then shifted to RG with Austin Schlottmann coming in at center.
Clearly laying the groundwork for Van Roten to move to RG when Schmitz is back.

Not heavier. Taller. Chatman was 278 at the draft. Klecko was 265. But Klecko was 6-3. Chatman is 5-11.

#Giants DL coach Patterson - chatman is strong powerful and explosive and quick - may be strongest guy on team and lack of height helps him...still has a long way to go but has some great qualities ...at 285, not little - just short
Wow... interesting about his strength.
Report I found a while back in the Dallas Morning News
Apparentely he was benching 225 in SEVENTH grade.. He can now bench like 500lbs.
His record is 42 reps @ 225
They drove it to the parking lot of a nearby church. It was about an acre big, Anthony estimates. Elijah then asked his mom to put it in neutral; he’d handle the rest.
“Are you crazy?” Geralene recalls asking.
being short and strong is VERY helpful.. Not saying he is the same player.. but Aaron Donald was not tall.. like 6'1.. it helps staying low.. when you are ALREADY low.. LOL

It's helpful for getting low to gain leverage in short yardage runs. It's not helpful for making plays. If it were such an advantage, you'd see lots of short DLs.
There are always exceptions, but the odds are pretty low.

Depends on how that DL is used..
Aaron Donald was short. Geno Atkins was short. John Randle was short. Gary Jarrett for the Falcons is short. Ed Oliver for the Bills is short. Calijah Kancey on the Buccaneers is short. and these are the ones off the top of my head..
Football Evolves.. Shorter, quick, STRONG defensive tackle can be hard to handle because of the lower pad level, burst and power.. They can win the leverage battle on bigger longer athletes..
