this way no pressure on him right as he is returning and still getting back to 100%..Let Carmen work with him, there will be a time he has to get snaps
The RT job but maybe even more importantly right now his push to just show he is physically capable of playing.
Regardless he needs to show he can play as he is a huge factor in the overall configuration of the OL group.
+1
They need to convince him to concentrate and commit to Guard IMO. He can't play tackle at this level. He's too topsy turvy. Not enough balance to handle speed on the outside.

I am trying to wrap my mind around the idea of having to "convince" a player to play a position that the coach is telling you to play. He is under contract and must follow instructions. He is not a superstar who can demand a trade.
The conspiracy theorist in me says that he was brought off the PUP once practices became closed to fans to minimize Neal's exposure to fan criticism and his ill advised reactions to such criticism.
But be that as it may, there is probably nobody on this team that has more upside than Evan Neal at this point. I am not a believer that he can make it at OT, but if he can be competent and allow JE to move to guard, the OL will indeed be something to be hopeful about.
Will be interesting to see how he performs against the Texans and Jets.

Agree with this, in no way should get the starting tackle spot back. Might be a firable offense.
The OL(s) performance on Thursday was so completely different; the cohesion was night and day. The coaching impact was magnificently stark.
One of my daughters gymnastics coaches named Marina was world renowned for her floor coaching and choreography. If/when a girl reached a high level, Marina would step in to spend a couple weeks revamping and coaching up her routine. A girl lucky enough to get "Marinaized" came out the other side at a whole new level.
Anxious to see the "Bricilloized" Evan Neal.
Coach Bricillo will be the best judge on where to play him and,

Would be great to see. This is a put up or shut up year for Neal.
You're off the PUP
You gotta get up
Don't reach for your cup
It ain't time for sup
You need to catch up
Or else hang 'em up
I heard the news when I woke up
Evan Neal has come off of the PUP
If he lets his man go by
Eluemunor will get a try
And Neal will be left holding his cup
I have to admit that right now I feel much more comfortable with

This is a rational take. Don't want to gamble on Neal's short term health and risk having to shuffle everyone again right before or shortly into the season.
At this point I would like to see Neal as the swing tackle
In this video Dr.Kirk Campbell an orthopedic surgeon at NYU says that for the surgery that Neal had the expected recovery time is 4-6 months. He also says that it is not unexpected that Neal is taking longer because of his size and the fact that playing football puts a lot more stress on the ankle than almost anything else someone can do.
If JMS comes back the Giants will have a lot of depth at interior line and can use Neal as the swing tackle. Doctor's opinion - ( New Window )
(Probably not for the season opener), what does the OL look like?
I would assume:
Thomas
Runyan
JMS
Eluemunor
Neal
I hope BRICILLO is not forced by Schoen to start Neal….in order to try not make him look worse than he already looks for drafting 4 very poor to mediocre OL guys: Neal, JMS, Ezeudu, and Mckethan.
am surprised. I thought he would transition to the regular season PUP, but as someone else said, Daboll has been very coy about Neal's status. But as someone else also said, with the new IR rule, Neal could still go on IR and be eligible play later this season.
At this point, he just needs to start practicing. Eluemunor should remain as the starting RT. Neal can be the swing tackle, assuming he is ready by the beginning of the regular season.
I don't trust the Giants medical staff and think it's at least possible that he may get re-aggravate his ankle.
Also I prefer Eluemunor at RT.
So you just want to keep him on an injury list until we cut him?
Got it.
Come on Eric, you are better than this. I never said "cut him." Based on his injury history and the Giants trainers/med staff, I worry that he might not be ready.
If he is I hope they keep him as a backup or practice him at guard. I don't see him as a starting tackle.

Uh-oh! We've got a regular William Wordsworth on our hands here!

I couldn't help but do this like Bone Thugs n Harmony -First of the Month.

Same. I'm not even comfortable with Neal starting.

I'm guessing that this will give the Giants a better look at whether to switch him to Guard or not.
I'm guessing that Neal is still not completely healthy and is still a long way from being prepared technique-wise to play in a regular season game.
If JMS comes back the Giants will have a lot of depth at interior line and can use Neal as the swing tackle.

Side note: the way Joshua Miles played Thursday, he may have to beat him out as well.

Still rooting for Neal to succeed long term but let him get coached for a while and build some confidence.
