Wells is the only guy who has consistently hit in the 4 hole all year, so of course, he bats him 5 today. All thi8s talk about protection for Judge, and Wells has hit behind him. Leave him there and let this simmer.
And Volpe has batted everywhere from 4-9 since being bumped from the leadoff slot. Has Chisholm batted in the same spot 2 or more games in a row?
Yet, seemingly Boone takes a page out of Martin's book and picks the names (other than Soto and Judge) out of a hat, because he has a different lineup every fucking game.

It's often been pointed out here that Boone does not make the lineup, certainly not on his own.
As for today's lineup: Heaney is a lefty. In 41 plate appearances against lefties, Wells does not have an extra base hit.
Batting Stanton fourth means Judge gets pitched to. And Stanton got the sac fly for the run.

We've had this debate/conversation quite a bit, but many people think the lineup mostly comes from the front office. (Gun to my head, I think the front office is responsible for the lineup on most days.)
But yeah I'd keep Wells at 4. I still don't know who should hit leadoff. I guess if I were dictator I'd just start the lineup with Soto and Judge.
I am not sure how much I believe the lineup origins theory
that most espouse. I know the manager role has been changing and reliance on analytics is at an all time high. But, I have never bought that Boone is handed a lineup every game by the front office.

I know the splits. I'd still keep him there. He needs consistency, at this point. Plus, it breaks up 2 righties in Judge and Stanton, which is nice when the opponent goes to the pen, which is likely to happen 3 or 4 times.

I believe there have been interviews where Boone implies that they email him a preliminary lineup and then he discusses with them changes he might want to make (that does not happen frequently).
I'm lukewarm on Boone, but feel like he has enough to legitimately criticize when the lineup is likely mostly not his responsibility.

I have not seen, heard, or read those interviews. I have only seen it speculated as fact here on BBI by a number of people.
Either way, I don't care if it's Boone, Cashman, some stathead, a computer, or anyone else. I don't like the different lineups every single game.
I swear, I am amazed to read their record this year, because this team has not looked or felt like one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the league for many weeks. I really wish we could fast forward to the post season already. I want to see if this is another weak hitting, embarrassing, soft exit and if so, will Boone and/or Cashman finally be held accountable. I suspect yes on Boone and no on Cashman, which is the bigger problem, in my opinion.

At what point are you going to realize that batting order is going to differ when there is a lefty on mound? For crying out loud, I know you’re massively obsessed with batting order, but you at least put some thought into it and look at the opposing pitcher before bitching about the order every single day?
as Soto has bad luck smoking a ball right at the 1st baseman holding Verdugo on base for an easy DP with runners at 1st and 3rd...followed by another IBB to Judge.
I went with my kid to the beach when the Yankees were up 5-0 in the 5th; I got back to see the Rangers had the tying run at the plate in the 8th. Always an adventure with Holmes but he got done.
Yeah it is. One bad outing you make sweeping comments.
Definitely not his only bad outing.
Ok, name the other ones. He wasn't the sharpest his first day, but survived it. Only gave up 2 HRs all year until today.
And do not tell me about the Cubs....don't care about anything that happened with the Cubs.

they even got the go ahead run in scoring position. its amazing how bad the pen is

It's not 1975 and Boone isn't Billy Martin.

Stanton up with pitching change.
Especially appropriate given that O'Neill and Kay were gushing about his 3B defense earlier.
Don't know what to say. That was Volpe's ball. Normally if 3rd can get to it, he should, but you can't not get there.
And then Torres cuts in front of Volpe and barely gets the 3rd out. That was effing stupid.
Stanton, Soto, Judge....
Who is this Nun and why are they showing her non-stop lol?

He just seems to fall apart after 20-22 pitches. They needed a closer and should let Holmes go after this year.

His last 7 games he has a 5.40 ERA.
