Was reading the JJM thread. Go on recoed now as to who YOU would have picked at 6. It will be interesting to look at when the Nix, Pennix, JJM threads come out this year.
I am fine with who the Giants pick until it doesn't work out. I can see why the Giants made the pick they did considering many other variables (some outside the QB spot).
Most important thing is the player makes an impact.
JJM. When he fell to us I couldn't believe it. But despite my
How good Daniel Jones looked in preseason his rookie year. These are vanilla defenses. Scripted plays for the offense to make life easy on the QB. Backup DB’s, etc,
McCarthy also had an awful INT.
I’m not calling him a bust, but let’s not crown him the savior in Minnesota yet either. Though I did like JJM, I never thought he was worth missing out on an elite WR prospect. If he hits, so be it…but chances are he’ll be a middle of the pack QB, not a top 10 guy.
RE: Picking Nabers was fine. But at some point there has to be
some level of draft investment in a QB. Too many drafts and too many rounds have gone by.
Just like many here scream from the mountaintop that you can't force a QB pick...you sure as hell shouldn't keep ignoring it either.
I would have taken JMM, but I think Nabers will be a stud.
But ThomasG is where I'm @...sooner or later, you gotta take a shot @ a QB. We haven't even drafted one since Jones in '19. And isn't like we're the Chiefs & we got Mahomes on our roster so we're good @ the position.
Seems to be essentially split between JJM and Nabers. Nobody seems to "hate" the neighbors pick. No support for Nix and only a couple Pennix. Keep em coming!
We need a QB and I believe in taking shots when you think one is available who has a chance to be special.
Happy with the Nabers pick, he has a very good chance to be special at an important position.
Short term there is no doubt in my mind Nabers will be more impactful to the Giants than Penix would have been. Long term is another story…. we still need a QB to compete for championships which is what we all want. We went with the surer thing which I’m okay with…as long as we pull the trigger next year.
I'd seen a lot more of Rome so favored him but was ok w either. I NEVER want WRs in rd 1. But both of those kids are going to be better pros than almost all of not all the QBs. I liked Daniels the most so wanted no part of the guys people talked themselves into.
Thie same people wailing about Qb were all die hard Rosen Darnold people. And very few here were demanding Allen when They grabbed Barkley. I didn't want Jones. None of this makes me an expert. But the loons who are still beating their wives and dogs because we passed on three QBs who all have major questions need help
Would have drafted JJM. I believe he can be a good QB and a good QB is more valuable than a great WR in my opinion. I feel like we may not get a chance as good as we just had to get a QB. I think we are .500 team
Didn't want to force the qb pick. Liked Odunze more because he seems like an A+ character guy and we've been burned by mental midgets like Toney and Deandre baker. Nabers was clearly the home run pick whereas Rome seems like his floor is a double
Nearly as well as Malik. They’ve acquired a bunch of different receivers and we have a type, smaller, either plus quickness or plus speed. Odunze is not a fit.
The draft is a crapshoot, specially with QB's. GM's are often wrong, and I don't believe anyone has sucessfully predicted which 1st round QB's would bust and which wouldn't for even 5 years in a row.
I didn't completely love any of the quarterbacks in this draft, but I felt like the Giants had to walk away from the 1st round with one anyways. In a draft with 6 potential franchise QB prospects, holding the #6 pick and QB being you biggest* need you have to find out someone you like and pick him. Personally, with the available options at the time, I'd have picked Penix. I view JJM as a project (with a lot of potential) and I'm not sure how to feel about Nix, I see some good traits but wasn't willing to bet on him with the #6 pick. I view Penix as pro ready and with very good potential although his injuries are a little bit worrisome.
And none of this has anything to do with Nabers, who I believe will be a great player (although I liked Odunze better, time will tell), but I couldn't help to feel a little bit disappointed not coming away with a fresh QB from this draft, felt like it was the perfect time to start over.
*The Jones saga has been a nightmare, with some occasionally feel good moments, but I'm convinced everyone needs a fresh start here, hell maybe Jones can even thrive under different circumstances. The Giants tried everything to make it work with him, 3 HC's, 2 GM's, a bunch of coordinator changes, a few highly drafted OL, etc. Up until last year, it hasn't worked yet outside of a few games. I think Jones has the measurables and talent, but something on the mental side is lacking and I don't think he figures it out with the Giants, that added with all the neck injuries + the ACL injury, it was a good moment to move on.
was fine taking Nabers, but would have taken JJM at#6.
I did not want to trade up for any QB, certainly not to #3 for Maye.
No other team tried to trade up near 6 for him. If he was so highly regarded wouldn't the jets stay pat and pick him. They badly need a young QB with Rodgers coming off a an Achilles tear and going to be 41 during the season
Nabers will be one of the best WRs in the league early on but picking him either says we'll get very lucky on DJ's health and play going forward or maybe even more lucky in having a better QB fall to us in another draft after improving our team to mediocre or slightly better.
Look at Minnesota they built a really strong team and couldn't truly compete with Cousins and ended up getting very lucky that JJM fell to them even though they traded up AND it was a very deep QB class
Cart before the horse. The Daboll experiment will end after this year or the next bc of it.
There are two ways to build a SB contender. Either get a Great QB and put him in a Good situation, or get a Good QB and surround him in a Great situation.
The Great QBs are MUCH more difficult to find. I think the tier of JJM, Penix, Bo, could be good QBs, but I don't project any of them in that Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, Allen type. On the other hand, Nabers is a major piece I building a great situation for whatever QB we have. So given what was available, I would have done exactly what the team did. There will be multiple first round QBs taken next year, regardless of what people may tell you. Prospects like JJM, Penix, and Nix are first round talents, but they are not rare or elite prospects. Nabers was an elite prospect. So we look to get a good QB next year.
I'm glad it looks like they hit on Nabers. Hopefully he's ready to go for game 1. Nabers was my 2nd choice. I wanted no part of Pennix or Nix.
Unfortunately drafting Nabers means we are stuck with Daniel Jones for the foreseeable future. Maybe the stars are aligning for Jones this year. In training camp better OL so far, better WRs so far, better TEs so far. Maybe a better Daniel Jones too? I hope so.
Drafting Nabers over JJM was an interesting call by Joe Schoen. He probably would have bought himself more time by drafting a QB. The Giants are going to have to play much better this year for the owners, fans and media to feel good about the team going into 2025.
but I still would have chosen JJM. I just don't see how we get our QB unless we suck again and as we showed last year even a crappy team can win a few meaningless games and screw up draft position.
Although I wanted a trade down when MHJ and Daniels were both selected. I did not think Nabers was clearly better than Odunze although I knew some were very high on Nabers and I thought that Tennessee was going OL no matter what and I thought Atlanta would go D which means we could get McCarthy or Odunze and extra picks.
Just like many here scream from the mountaintop that you can't force a QB pick...you sure as hell shouldn't keep ignoring it either.
If you believe Brian Daboll knows more about QBs than you do then you should also believe Daboll would have picked JJM instead if he liked him.
But he didn't. He picked Nabers so in his expert opinion he selected a Great WR > average QB
So this really comes down to believing Daboll or not.
I am not an expert, so Nabers it is.
Most important thing is the player makes an impact.
McCarthy also had an awful INT.

I saw his first-game preseason highlights. That's all I need to know.
But the Giants may have added the best player in the draft.

but I would have traded it to MINN for #11 and 23. Now that we know that offer was on the table.
And how do we KNOW that was on the table???
It was discussed on Hard Knocks.
WR I wanted Nabers.
Wanted nothing else. If the Giants had gone with JJ, I wouldn't have complained at all.

Would LOVE to be wrong
